Scott Joplin

Scott Joplin (24 listopada 1868 - 1 kwietnia 1917) – afroamerykański kompozytor i pianista, popularyzator stylu ragtime.
Urodził się w Texarkana w stanie Teksas. Wraz z różnymi grupami muzycznymi grając po klubach podróżował po miastach Środkowego Zachodu. Na początku XX wieku osiadł w Nowym Jorku, gdzie zmarł.
Był autorem pierwszej afroamerykańskiej opery – Treemonisha z 1911 roku.
Kojarzony jest przede wszystkim z kompozycjami ragtime Maple Leaf Rag z 1899 i The Entertainer z 1902 r. (spopularyzowaną dzięki filmowi Żądło (The Sting) z 1973 roku).
