Peresvet (Russian: Пересве́т) is a town in Moscow Oblast, Russia, located on the Kunya River (Dubna's tributary) some 90 km northeast of Moscow and 17 km north of Sergiyev Posad. Population: 17,500 (2005 est.).
Officially Peresvet was founded in 1955 as an urban-type settlement servicing NIIChimMash (НИИ́Хи́мМа́ш; abbreviation for "research institute of chemical engineering"), a research institute for bench testing of rocket engines and thermal vacuum chamber testing of spaceships. It was named Novostroyka (Новостро́йка).
Till 1992 Novostroika was a restricted area. During the Soviet period settlement was completely under institute's authority. Later it was managed by the administration of Krasnozavodsk. In 2000 it finally gained town status and its current name (after the medieval military hero Alexander Peresvet).
