Miss Universe 1988 was held at Lin Kou Stadium, Taipei, Taiwan on May 24, 1988. Porntip Nakhirunkanok of Thailand was crowned as Miss Universe 1988. 66 contestants competed in the 1988 Miss Universe Pageant. This year was also considered the "Year of the Far East Asians" as four of the five semi-finalists came from Asian countries.Never before have so many contestants from this region done so well.
