Delta Force Xtreme is intended to be a remake of the original Delta Force series (which at its time, received favourable reviews). With new graphics similar to those of Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising and new vehicle usablity combined with the original Delta Force gameplay.

DFX has three single player campaigns with a total of 20 single-player missions similar to those of the original game. However the main focus of the game is its online gameplay feature. There are currently over 60 thousand copies registered on NovaWorld, which are all ranked using an experience points ranking system. There is an awards system which can be kept track of on the NovaWorld homepage.

Multiplayer is seen as the main focus of the game (as with other Delta Force titles), where online play is free, and seen by many as immersive.

DFX (like previous titles), is favored for providing a "no boundary" style of combat, where the player is able to roam anywhere, without any boundaries, which result in very open combat.

Delta Force: Xtreme consists of three campaigns set in Peru, Chad, and Novoya Zemlya. While these campaigns were in the original Delta Force, the Indonesian and Uzbekistan campaign, have not been carried over. Additionally, not all missions from the three campaigns have been carried over to DFX.

The Peruivan campaign involves tracking down Corrales - a dangerous drug dealer with an army of mercenaries. Delta is sent to the country to demolish his operations.

The Chad campaign involves Delta rescuing a friendly pilot, kidnapped by the CNLF, which are also a threat to regional security.

The Novoya Zemlya campaign involves stopping soldiers intending vengeance on their government, by dealing with nuclear weapons.

[edit] Gameplay

Delta Force: Xtreme focuses on three campaigns from DF1 (Peru, Chad, and Novoya Zemlya). The game's Single Player (unlike previous DF titles), introduces vehicular combat, but mostly on-foot combat to keep the balance. The game also features the "old style" scope that was present in the first four DF titles. Gametypes from the original Delta Force have also been brought back. Additionally, most maps from the original DF have been brought into DFX.

Like the original Delta Force, the game only consists of a few weapons, with no character classes present.

Multiplayer is generally seen as the primary focus on the game, where online play is free via NovaWorld. Although NovaLogic advertises 32-player matches online (likewise, DF1), public servers will usually contain more player slots, such as 64.

[edit] Mapmaking

Mapmaking in Delta Force Xtreme is done by a with the NovaLogic map editor, called Mission EDitor or "MED" that is found in the Delta Force Xtreme game folder. The Joint Operations NILE editor may be used however (which is included on the disc of the game). Additionally, NILE editor is free for download at NovaLogic's site.

Thousands of maps have been made for the game, consisting of all game types (both online and offline). Many custom maps can be found hosted on public servers.

While most of these weapons were from the original Delta Force, DFX replaces the M4/M203 with the M16/M203, adds the M4 as an additional weapon, and has the M24 SWS instead of the M40.

Delta Force: Xtreme introduces a wide-range of vehicles (mostly of those in Joint Operations).

[edit] Bugs

Delta Force Xtreme has some noticeable bugs with vehicles. The NBO-105 sometimes may not fire rockets; the T-80U has bounding volume issues which may allow computer controlled characters to kill the player through the hull. The RHIB's mounted M60 only has a range of 10 meters. There is a bug that causes a crash to desktop when attempting to use the gunner's seat of the Ka-52. The M24 takes two shots just to kill another player. Many bugs have been fixed with the latest patch for DFX.

The latest update for Delta Force: Xtreme fixes over a dozen of bugs and adds new features. This was NovaLogic's last update to DFX.[2]

[edit] Mods

The community has created many mods for Delta Force: Xtreme - one of which, the Special Ops mod (created by WTF Squad)[3], which consists of over 100 chooseable characters, 924 (including imported items from previous Delta Force titles) items, over 30 weapons, over 120 terrains, and two single player campaigns (one involves taking down a group of ex-Al-qaeda terrorists, and the other involving the player taking down "The Lynx").

Special Ops was dedicated to Cpl Allan Stewart, who was killed by a roadside bomb in Afganistan, April 2007.[4]

Other mods were created such as the PSP Patch, which unlocks several new features in DFX which were locked by NovaLogic prior to release.

[edit] Reception

Although Delta Force: Xtreme was released as a budget title, it has received several favourable reviews.

While it received a general 65% on reviews, based on user ratings, the game marked an 8.6/10 (based on information on Metacritic).[5]
