[edit] The Edge (student newspaper)

I undid the redirect of the Edge newspaper. It seems notable to me. If you have more specific reasons for redirecting please let me know and I will reconsider. Thanks. KnightLago 02:17, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

  • I'm afraid don't see how. 20 unique Ghits, all fail either WP:RS or WP:SELF, or are simply trivial mentions. It only won some awards in 2006 at a state collegiate convention, which does not appear to confer notability of the level normally expected at wikipedia. Ohconfucius 02:24, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
    • After looking at the Google hits and seeing how minor the paper was I reverted myself and put the redirect back into place. KnightLago 02:46, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
    • Thank you for your clear head. Ohconfucius 02:47, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Penny_Loafers

thanks for your comments. A refreshing touch of sanity in one of the more confused a cappella afd's i have been involved with. Savidan 04:20, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

  • you're welcome. Probably got there too late to influence the debate. I've debated and nominated quite a few college a cappella groups' articles, and I shall keep on doing so. Nevertheless, some will stick for the reasons you know well. Ohconfucius 04:24, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AVN Awards

You're proposing to merge the various individual years for the AVN Awards back into the main article. I'm strenously opposed to this as it would make the main article very large and rather unwieldy to edit if you were to list only the "main" categories. The AVN Awards have a very long list of categories and to focus only on some would be a disservice. Look at the Academy Award articles - they list all the winners in the Cinematography and Costume Design categories even though the number of people who are interested in them is zilch. Tabercil 11:52, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

  • I know that they may not have been complete lists, but the lists which I merged from 1984 to 1999 were done with virtually no categories omitted from the articles before they were prodded. I intended to put them all into tabular form for 5 years at a time, and to later eject the table for each 5 years into separate pages as and when appropriate. I merely wanted to have a table which consolidated several years' results in one article, and would have no objection to expanding the number of categories if anyone has the information to put in. I kept those same categories for my attempt at merging the lists from 2000 onwards, which I admit did lead to a few omissions for the mainly foreign categories. Ohconfucius 01:37, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] University Daily Kansan

Why did you remove the editor's list from the University Daily Kansan entry? —Preceding unsigned comment added by NFA999 (talkcontribs)

  • I don't believe it's usual practice for these lists to be included. I deleted them as most of the names did not appear to be notable. As you may well know, wiki is not a directory or soapbox. Ohconfucius 01:55, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Award

Rescue from Deletion Barnstar
This award is long overdue for fixing up the article for Gomaa, which I nominated for deletion. In the middle of the discussion for deletion, this led to many people changing their original decisions to delete the article, and it's looking much better today. --queso man 01:02, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Caribbean Coast

Thanks for the info. I've redeleted, and if it comes up a third time I'll protect the page. I'm not an admin on wikirealty. jimfbleak 09:51, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

I found the page: Caribbean Coast, was deleted. Concerning the copyright issue, I would like to rebuild the page with my own information. In fact, the latest version of Caribbean Coast before deletion, had most content from my own. I would be grateful if you could return the source of the deleted page and I will rebuild what i wrote.

Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Senatorto (talkcontribs)

  • "Your article" can be found here, where it has been all along. Just because the original site where the information came from no longer exists, doesn't mean it was not a copyright infringement. The simple reason it read like spam is that you had taken it from a promotional site and put it here without substantial change. Changing a word or three does not get around the cv issue, but a substantial rewrite, possibly by change also to its structure, would be necessary. I would suggest that it be stripped down completely, if you were intenton reviving it. The red, yellow, blue, green sections are clearly trivia and don't belong here. Another thing I would mention is that there were no sources to support the article, upon which notabilitydepends: the article could be vulnerable to deletion once again if there are insufficient sources which indicate it has been written about independently -advertsements, advertorials, copies of press releases do not count. (For your information: A Gsearch for "caribbean coast hong kong" -craigslist.org -wikipedia -mtr.com.hk gave 16 unique Ghits, most were by property agents.) Ohconfucius 08:10, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I have deleted the concerned copyright content on Caribbean Coast. I invite you to confirm the deletion, subsequent, a major re-write could be commenced. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Senatorto (talkcontribs)

[edit] Deletion of Sun Star?

Recently, I was notified that the article Sun Star was deleted as not being notable. Are there guidelines specific to student newspapers that guide the notability requirement? I looked at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:CSD#Articles, but was unsure as to how a student newspaper would ever meet those requirements. If you could help at all with this, I'd appriciate it.

[edit] List of GayVN Awards nominations

Hi! You told me about copyright and all... But what are they doing with the "List of GayVN Awards" is not the same? Maybe there's something I didn't catch at all in the way to make an article, but I just followed the "awards" exemple for the "nominations". Can you help me to understand please? Thank you DaliJim

[edit] List of locations

This is quoted directly from WP:ORG:

"In a few rare cases, an individual location will also have architectural peculiarities that makes it unique and notable, such as the Winston-Salem Shell gas station or the Vinita, Oklahoma McDonald's; however, a "List of Wal-Marts in China" would be informative."

If I'm interpreting this correctly, then this would mean that the store listings, per WP:ORG, should stay put, since they seem to pass. Unless I'm misenterpreting something here. TenPoundHammer 20:51, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Louisville Cardinal

Point being, plan on questioning the notability of these?

[edit] Cite sources of Hongkong Post

Ohconfucius, thank you for editing Hongkong Post with so much information citing various sources. Would you mind using <ref> and </ref> to better refer the info to the Reference section? Thank you! -- Nxn 0405 chl 10:54, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi there,

Thanks for your message about the Regal Constellation Hotel. To address your notes, the hotel is in fact a landmark hotel in the Toronto area, and is nationally famous for having been host to several celebrities and politicians, and at least one national political scandal in the 1990s. As such, I do believe it to be notable, it simply hasn't been updated to reflect that as yet (in fact, most of the information in the article is out-of-date or outright incorrect, I just not have had the time to do a full update as yet). Granted, the hotel is now closed for some reconstruction (not demolished), but it is still of historical significance to Canada, and that history stretches back at least 20 years before it was puchased by the RIH group, which is why I feel a merger into the RIH article would be inappropriate.

As for the name: Prior to the 1980s, it was simply "The Constellation Hotel". However, the hotel retained the "Regal Constellation" name for several years after its breaking off from the RIH group, and is generally to this day under that name.

I hope that helped, Andrew

[edit] Student response section of VA Tech shooting article

I do not see how the strings were "excessive" - the section had very little content. The reader should see a few examples of communication (Myspace posting contents and the cell phones of students ringing) WhisperToMe 21:40, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

  • I don't see how the length of any particular section should be relevant, as we are not here to create articles or sections of articles of equal length. These exchanges can be easily imagined without it being explicitly detailed. In addition, all of the messages come from primary sources, and are not known for their reliability. [edit] Your edit to The Bus Uncle

Hello,

I noticed that you have edited the article about The Bus Uncle. At that moment, it is being nominated to be a featured article. However, no one has commented on it. If you are interested, consider reading it carefully and write a comment about it here.

And by the way, I have reverted your edit to the article, since removing detail would lower the quality of that section, and the citation should stay too, otherwise it would be unreferenced.

Yours, --Kylohk 08:31, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Amsterdam Mall

I noticed that you withdrew the deletion here, by crossing out your rationale and adding "withdrawn" to the list. Does this mean that you no longer wish to have the pages deleted, or are you planning to just divvy them up into one-by-one AfD noms? Ten Pound Hammer(((ActionsWords))) 03:25, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Actually, I'll take that as a yes. Somebody already snipped the AfD from Crossroads Mall (Florida), so I'm assuming I can snip the rest. Please drop a note on my talk page if I'm wrong. Ten Pound Hammer(((ActionsWords))) 03:27, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mass AFDs

If you're gonna do that, then do us all a favor and nominate articles on high schools. Nobody likes them anyways. Tuxide 05:36, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

  • Maybe I'll have an easier ride ;-) - I never expected there to be so much opposition to deletion of shopping malls. Ohconfucius 06:32, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Well, think it through... which do you think your average teenager would rather go to: school or the mall? So which would then have a higher favorable association in their mind? Tabercil 12:06, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] GHits

The number of GHits a subject has does not always equal notability. I would suggest reading this page. Ten Pound Hammer(((ActionsWords))) 15:07, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

  • I too, am also fond of saying that counting Ghits is not research, and I do not deny there may well be other sources available, but the onus is on the author of articles to ensure that the subjects' notability is sufficiently asserted. You will grant that I did supplement my assertion as to the subjects' lack of notability by offering a broad analysis of the Ghits found without misrepresentation, and not just the number of hits alone. Very often when considering deletion, when I come across articles which may lend weight, I would insert them into the articles concerned. For example, you may refer to my contribution to this article. Ohconfucius 04:32, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Indian Mall

I recently added much more information to the article on Indian Mall. If nothing else, this article should at least pass WP:V now. Ten Pound Hammer(((ActionsWords))) 19:59, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

  • By the way, I noticed that you made some cleanup on the Indian Mall article. I have put a lot of work into improving that page, and I feel that your reasoning for AfD is no longer valid -- it's no longer a directory entry/stub, nor is it unsourced, so I've at least cleared those hurdles. I'm not necessarily suggesting that the AfD be withdrawn. Rather, I would appreciate it if you took one more look at the article (I added a bit more info just a few seconds ago) and let me know if anything else needs improvement. Or, like you did with Golden Ring Mall, maybe you can even add some info yourself. Ten Pound Hammer(((ActionsWords))) 03:26, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
    • I've had a look at the stuff you wrote, and it certainly makes for a whole lot better article. I've gone and tidied up the refs some more. I feel that it has a much better chance of staying now, thanks to your efforts, but as I have still some reservations about its notability, I'll let the AfD run its course. As others have voted delete, it cannot be closed by my withdrawing the nom. I will downgrade to weak delete. Ohconfucius 04:10, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Danielsnyder.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Danielsnyder.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ytny (talk) 13:51, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dutchess Mall

Just a friendly little note to let you know that I gave this article a significant rewrite. It's no longer a stub/directory entry; also, there are several references, and assessment of notability (it's on land that's in the National Register of Historic Places; also, the mall's flea market was the subject of a 2006 documentary).

By the way, I also added a lot to Wenatchee Valley Mall; you might want to check it out too. Ten Pound Hammer(((ActionsWords))) 02:18, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Excellent work on digging up the references, and commendations on your improvements to the display of references/footnotes! Ohconfucius 04:35, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hatten Yoder

Thanks for your work on Hatten Yoder. I came to the page by accident and found a single sentence, and no references -- I'm a new editor and used it to practice recommendations for deletion. I'm not sure if I need to do anything to withdraw my request for deletion, since it seems he is sufficiently notable for inclusion. If there's something further I should do, perhaps you'd be good enough to advise me on my talk page. Accounting4Taste 05:36, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

  • No worries. In fact, in nominating the article for deletion, you drew attention to the fact that notability was not adequately asserted. I have found the AfD is quite a good vehicle to force improvements to articles, as the process often draws more urgent attention to articles which are in serious need of work - much more so than tagging an article {{notability}} or {{cleanup}}. You may indeed withdraw your nomination if you wish, and as there are no votes for deletion, you may ask for a 'speedy close'. An administrator will come along and close the debate as uncontentious. Ohconfucius 05:46, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] GU2 Radio merger

Can I enquire why the page GU2 Radio has been redirected to University of Surrey without any visible prior discussion. What appeared to be a notable enough article about a local radio station, complete with some of it's history and references, is now part of a sentence. Chriswiki 07:45, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

  • I saw hardly anything worth keeping. The sources were all WP:SELF, thus failing WP:RS. From where I sit, the article, prior to its redirection, failed to meaningfully assert its notability to the extent required by WP:N, and could arguably have been speedied. I have seen many such articles deleted or, at best, redirected to the closest "parent" in AfD, and so redirected it as per WP:BOLD. In redirecting the article, I hope that editors would take the opportunity to grow the subject within the University of Surrey article until there is sufficient content/sufficient sources which demonstrate that people take note of it. Ohconfucius 07:53, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
    • Fair enough, I just feel it would have been more polite and productive to have mentioned your concerns on the talk page, rather than just replacing the page with a redirect. Chriswiki 07:56, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: University of Salford Students' Union

Hi there. You recently removed two links from this page. The first one, NUS Extra, I can understand, but the second one to the Shock Radio website I can not. They are featured in the article and are the flagship society of the students union. and from the WP:EL

Articles about any organization, person, web site, or other entity should link to the official site if any.

Could you please explain your actions. Thanks TorstenGuise 15:51, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

  • my actions are based on WP:EL#Links_normally_to_be_avoided, which states "Sites that are only indirectly related to the article's subject: the link should be directly related to the subject of the article. A general site that has information about a variety of subjects should usually not be linked to from an article on a more specific subject.". It is the case with many organisations, and students' unions are no exception, there are an array of clubs and societies underneath the umbrella. My contention is that if it is notable, it would merit its own page including weblink thereto, if not, all links should be removed. Thanks for your attention. Ohconfucius 01:42, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
  • I understand your contention on this issue, but it's notoriety as a society has been denied by international editors such as yourself. A large number of Storm FM and Shock Radio alumni have high profile jobs in the British entertainment industry including BBC radio and national television. Reguardless to this, it has been consistantly deleted.TorstenGuise 10:50, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Removal of the current list of officers? Why? It's not linking to anything. I have reverted the article to the previous edit. I understand you to be a deletionist, but there are other precedents in other articles on students' unions, especially King's College London Students' Union. Once again, I'm not happy with an international editor changing an article without properly checking facts. The article clearly states that the new officers do not take their posts until July 1st, ergo the current list is just that, current.

Is it perchance the NUS section you are unhappy with? TorstenGuise 11:53, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

  • I am sorry you think I changed any facts. I would refer you to the changes made. You will see that the list of officers was not deleted, I merely ejected the names of the sabs to the infobox to obviate the need for them to appear below. The NUS section was not deleted, merely moved up and integrated with the introduction. Thanks for your continued diligence. Ohconfucius 13:31, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Moving the current sabs to the infobox makes it too crowded, and difficult to read, However, The NUS section was a legacy item from when I took over the editing of the page, and I've never been happy with it, I've changed that bit back. There has been a lot of vandalism this past couple of months, and I've been monitoring the page closely. I'm still not happy with it all, and will probably re-write large portions of the article after the new trustee board comes into force.

A deletionist and inclusionist agreeing? What is the world coming to? TorstenGuise 13:43, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] UoH

Why did you remove the categories as well? Simply south 13:09, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Why remove all the links for the University of Hertfordshire? Another example of a Universitiy with links see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxford_university Ebelthite 10:46, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

  • As always the case on wikipedia, I try to be objective with the standard of article, therefore, I never try base the quality of content of one article on another, faulty, one. To answer your question, 1/the links are clearly in breach of WP:EL#Links normally to be avoided; 2/ I haven't got round to cleaning up the Oxford article yet. Happy editing. Ohconfucius 01:21, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Audiophool links

I do agree w/you that the list is badly in need of cleaning up (like just about every god-damned list here!). I just didn't think it was quite kosher to just zap the entire list. +ILike2BeAnonymous 07:27, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Busuncle atv.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Busuncle atv.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:53, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] BCAFL teams

Hello. I saw that you nominated a few BCAFL teams for deletion (Bath, Royal Holloway, and ARU). Earlier this year, a similar AfD nomination came up with regards to the Surrey Stingers page. The AfD was defeated, and I encourage you to take a look at the discussion and resolution - Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Surrey Stingers. Particularly, I direct you to the last paragraph of the discussion, which ended the debate. It stated,

"Speedy Keep. The team is very minor, but given that they are part of this: British Collegiate American Football League, and that the article forms part of a very complex whole, the nomination to delete is highly unlikely to succeed. An argument might be put forward that all the teams should be mentioned only in the parent article - however, there is already enough information on each of the teams to justify a split off. The amount of information on the League is sufficient to justify its existence on Wiki. The only debate would be as to how the information is organised. And it seems from looking at the matter, that the information is organised in the most helpful manner at the moment. All that this discussion is doing is causing upset. Simondrake clearly felt the article was worth a discussion to see if other people felt the same way as he did. That's fine. I would agree the article needed testing. It has now been tested and found satisfactory. It is clearly going to become even more satisfactory (rather than less) as time goes on. SilkTork 22:22, 5 March 2007 (UTC) "

I do not believe that the articles should be deleted, but I am always willing to discuss the issue. Thanks. - Masonpatriot 04:04, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Thanks for your info. Searching for clubs name turned out little except a web of links to other clubs, with there being few news articles to boot. I was unsure, which made me stop prodding the lot of them or taking them to AfD. I am surprised to see such a one-sided discussion bearing in mind the fundamentally weak character of the articles, and the lack of sources appeared not to bother anyone. I hope that other editors with a better knowledge of sourcing these articles chip in, otherwise one day, AfD may well say "delete this lot of useless stubs". Ohconfucius 04:33, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
I see you've tagged some other teams. It seems that the teams you are targetting are those that are either new members to the BCAFL or ones that have not achieved success as of yet. It's my opinion that membership in the league itself denotes equality amongst its members regardless of the result on the pitch. Thanks. - Masonpatriot 03:19, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

I nominated the Surrey Stingers page for deletion, it was kept anyway for reasons that contravene the rules of wikipedia. The main argument against me was bad-faith, especially since I am a student at the relevant University. But if I've never heard of them when I attend the university (And am a major player in the student's union, one of only five people with the authority to create new societies and clubs...) then what chance does a japanese businessman stand of knowing them? They are not notable by any stretch of the definition. Most of the clubs articles aren't but they exist anyway because they are part of a larger whole... Despite this being directly against the guideline Notability Is Not Inherited. I just thought I'd let you know you're not alone in your dislike of these articles. However an equally idiotic debate over the deletion of Rules Of Chess because it's essentially the same as a walkthrough to Pokemon has left me exhausted, I'm going on a wiki-holiday. Have fun on wikipedia in the meantime193.128.87.36 16:10, 18 July 2007 (UTC) (BTW, It's an IP address because I'm at work at the moment.)

[edit] BCAFL Teams

Mate why do you see the need to try deleting teams profiles when it is a hard enough to get our league any attention at all.

Just because all the teams do no update their profile it does not warrant their pages being deleted. We (Sunderland Kings) were fortunate enough to have our profile stumbled upon by a reporter in the run up to the super bowl which got us media coverage which also proved useful for sponsorship.

Please rethnik your cases for deletion. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Warwagon86 (talkcontribs) 17:35, 14 May 2007 (UTC).

  • I'm sorry you think this way. I would kindly urge you to get on with improving the articles having due regard for wikipedia's policies and guidelines, rather than gripe at me for proposing them for deletion just because the clubs exist, and because a wikipedia entry helped your club to raise money. What you said is well and good, but wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a directory, and is not meant to be used for promotional purposes. Please also refer to the comments above in a related section. Ohconfucius 01:30, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
    • We meet again! I think you're taking WP:SPAM a little too literally here. I understand your deletion of some of the links (especially as a your a deletionist), but would ask of your knowledge of the United Kingdom's Student Union movement. From what I've observed, you seem to thrive on editing articles pertaining to UK students; be it unions, clubs or societies. They also seem to be the articles that people talk about the most on these pages. Again this appears to be my pet hate of International editors not understanding the relevant situations and taking the guidelines as defacto. In the words of Bob Mortimer, "Discuss" :) TorstenGuise 02:28, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
  • I did recently embark on a cleanup drive on UK education related articles indeed, but you will see from my contributions that I am an expert on many subjects ;-). I admit I may not be the foremost expert on British education, I am not completely ignorant of it either, having gone through it myself during my 20 years spent in the country. Admittedly some time has elapsed since I left Blighty! Thanks for your good humour. Ohconfucius 02:38, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
  • The question I asked was about the UK student union movement. Just to be finneky, what experience and knowledge do you have of it? TorstenGuise 02:42, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
  • I was for 2 years on my university union's Student's Rep council, and an officer of the Union. member of the faculty board and Student Governor. Ohconfucius 02:48, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Good call, but in the spirit of frendly rivalry, UWE doesn't count! :P I was involved with University of Salford Students' Union for seven years and had heavy involvement with clubs (chaired a few) and societies, along with being on the Union Council and an officer of the union. I've also been to the NUS Conference. I'm not intending to be funny, but my experience is probably more recent than yourself; especially with the current movement for change that is rife within it at the mo. I hope you can understand my frustrations. TorstenGuise 03:02, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
  • You're probably right, UWE wasn't even a uni in those days ;-). Not the same, but I disagree it doesn't count ;-). Hope you can help the NUS stave off bankruptcy HAHA! Ohconfucius 03:14, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

I've removed the speedy deletion tag from the above article. While the subject might not be notable, the article does assert notability in a reasonable way. You may wish to list it at WP:AFD instead, to get a broader consensus on the article. Thanks for your time and your hard work reporting these articles - even though I'm not deleting this particular one, your efforts are very much appreciated. Kafziel Talk 12:28, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Logo hld.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Logo hld.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 17:48, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

There was a spam free version once, so i reverted to it. I understand your feelings when you placed the db; let's see if we can keep it down to size. If the cut is reverted, as seems possible, pls nom for AfD and I will support you, or I can nominate it. DGG 05:31, 23 May 2007 (UTC),

[edit] License tagging for Image:Queen's pier.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Queen's pier.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 05:08, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:Add taste.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Add taste.gif. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Aksibot 19:00, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Why did you strikethrough my comments on this discussion. Do you realize that's practically vandalism?--Dr who1975 16:20, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Nevermind... I get it now... you would've been better off deleteing the duplicated comments then striking through them... a strike through gives the wrong impression: it makes it look like the author of the comments changed their mind and is trying to show that they now think the opposite of what they had said. I realize that if you examine the page carefully you see that it is a duplicate comment but most people don't think that way.... expecially when you've got comments directly related to the original comment right below it that are cut off by teh struck through text.--Dr who1975 16:37, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] steve brookstein

I think getting a number one album and single isn't a bad. I think you comments about reality tv is not based on reason but a personal dislike. I have worked with many top musicians and have had great reviews from Grammy award winners and BBC Jazz award winners. Just because My career isn't in the public eye now does not make what i have done less valid.
I find the bias comments on my page offensive and would rather have it removed.
As for fifteen minutes fella...that's 15 minutes more fame than you'll ever get ;-) cheers, Steve Brookstein, X Factor Winner, Number One Recording artist, sex machine and butlins breaking dancing champion 1976.

  • Sorry for my harsh comments, Steve. You got me. If I seriously thought that, I would have proposed your page for deletion. You clearly had more than "15 minutes of fame", I should have said "one-hit wonder", if that makes you feel any better ;-). If you carefully examine the page history, I think you will find that I have tried hard not to be biased, and have been inserting content and sources in the article when I come across them, and deleting unsourced stuff which could be contentious. In the talk page, I was expressing my exasperation that the unidentified editors come by and put unsourced comments, some of which may even be defamatory into the article, and it was a desperate plea for better content and sourcing. However, you will grant that accurate and sourced information is not all that easy to come by - your own website as the primary source unfortunately fails WP:RS. I assume that the above was written by the real Steve Brookstein, and in view of your request, I will formally put your page up for deletion, although I am pretty sure that the community will not allow it. No hit wonder 01:34, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Status update request.

Hello,

Last week, you submitted a request for editor assistance regarding the tagging of certain images for deletion. There were multiple responses, and I would like to know if these resolved your request.

Please reply either on the request page or leave me a message on my talk page ASAP. Thanks! --Aarktica 16:13, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
