MTV Adria, based in Ljubljana, Slovenia, is an MTV Networks Europe subsidiary of MTV, broadcasting to the countries of the former Yugoslavia.
The station started broadcasting on September 1, 2005,[1] to Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Montenegro.[2] The program targets primarily young urban adults. It makes a point of omitting the turbo folk musical genre that's popular in the region.[3] The role of MTV Adria's musical editor is performed by Žiga Gombač, and 20% of the channel's airtime is reserved for content from the Yugoslav successor states.[4]
MTV Adria is distributed through local cable providers as well as DTH satellite platforms such as Digi TV and TotalTV.
Local performers who appear on MTV Adria are eligible to receive the Best Adriatic Act award at the annual MTV Europe Music Awards. So far, the winners have been:
After reportedly not posting any profit during 2006[5], in late 2007 and early 2008 information about the possible sale of MTV Adria started to circulate. This was eventually confirmed by channel's director Marko Benda.[6]
