Hollyoaks: Movin' On

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hollyoaks: Movin' On was an ill-fated spin-off show from the long-running Channel 4 British television soap opera Hollyoaks.

[edit] Summary

Following the breakdown of her relationship with Lewis Richardson, Ruth Osborne decided it was time to make a break from Hollyoaks. She moved to another part of Chester to live with old school friends Louise and Samantha. At the same time her friends Tony Hutchinson and Rory Finnigan were planning a new business venture in the form of a restaurant. Ruth, Tony and Finn felt they were at a turning point in their lives and it was time to try something new having previously owned The Loft nightclub with Lewis.

Originally Tony wanted to call the new restaurant "Cafe Hutch" but eventually settled on "Gnosh" and Vic was employed as Tony's sous chef. The premises were in the same part of Chester where Ruth was now living so the series saw the three characters who had grown up in the main show Hollyoaks question the direction their lives were taking as they approached their late twenties/early thirties.

There were added problems in the form of Lewis Richardson ,Ruth's ex, who was unable to accept their relationship was over and was finding it hard dealing with the fact that Ruth had aborted their baby. Lewis also had massive gambling debts and after beating up Ruth and leaving her for dead Lewis feared he was turning into his father Dennis Richardson and decided the only way out was to commit suicide. He took an overdose of paracetomol and despite being taken to hospital he later died from organ failure as there was nothing the doctors could do to save him. On his deathbed Lewis begged for the forgiveness of Ruth, his friends and family. However, his sister Mandy refused to have anything to do with her brother, disgusted at what he had become. Following Lewis' death Ruth decided there was no way she could stay in Chester and planned to move to London. The series ended with her writing an article about her relationship with Lewis. We later heard in the parent show, Hollyoaks that Ruth had moved to London and was working as a journalist there.

A total of sixteen fifty-minute episodes were produced.
