Thanks for the help, darn vandals.--Milonica (talk) 02:43, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
(I see from an earlier comment--if I correctly understand it--that you are removing your comments from other users pages. If so, please don't ever do that, once you've put something on another users page, its their concern, not yours. Sorry if I misunderstood. DGG (talk) 02:55, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Japanese alias & ARC
I have edited that Japanese alias article which you had edited previously, split the 'how-to' stuff into a non-WP article, and put the Alien registration card info into a separate WP article. I have applied for a peer review. If you would like to contribute to either article, please do so. If you need to discuss either article, pleased do it on the article discussion page, and not my talk page. Thanks.--Mak Allen (talk) 04:31, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] User:Axlrose365
Well, the only problem here is that he is a new editor, so deleting his user page right away or even nominating it for WP:MFD would be a bit like biting the newbie. The appropiate would be first warning him against using wikipedia to store his personal essays, and asking him to contibute to wikipedia. If in a few months time he has made no other edits, or if he just limits himself to editing the essays on his userspace, then that would be the moment of nominating the page.
Yeah, I know that it can be annoying to see these essays sit unmolested on wikipedia, but we don't want to risk losing a potential contributor. I'll put his page on my watchlist, to keep an eye on him. --Enric Naval (talk) 18:33, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
- Haha, I was looking on Category:User_warning_templates for a template to warn him, and I found Template:Comment0 instead. As a adenda to above, we usually let established editors a bit of leeway to place his personal opinions on their user pages as soon as they are not offensive to other editors or personal attacks, so the only problem is if a non-established editor he edits only to add his personal opinion, which will be the case here if this person doesn't edit any more. If you nominate right now, chances are that the MfD might close as "no consensus" due to WP:BITE concerns, so I advice you to wait. I left a message to the user. --Enric Naval (talk) 18:48, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Dad's Money
Here's another case where you didn't list a second account, but I was able to discern it from the user's response. In the future, please check that:
- There are at least two users on the SSP report. (An IP address can be counted as a user.)
- These two users have violated something in the WP:SOCK policy.
Thank you. Yechiel (Shalom) 01:31, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Hey Ironholds, thanks for MFDing all those pages, I'm sure it was a lot of work. For future reference, when you nominate a bunch of related pages for the same reason, you should bundle them all together into one MFD. The instructions are on the top of the MFD page. Thanks! Hiya. Just a quick question - you've nominated this article for deletion. Personally, I'd have changed the article to a redirect to the group. Having looked at your contributions etc., it seems your approach may be the correct one, but can you tell me why deletes are preferred over redirects for these types of article ? Thanks :-) CultureDrone (talk) 08:14, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback, and good luck with the exams :-) CultureDrone (talk) 09:49, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- Simply because my approach would have been a redirect - since I'm also keen to avoid edit wars etc., and because I'm trying to improve my editing abilities, I like to ask more experienced editors why they did something one way when I'd have done something else :-) CultureDrone (talk) 09:53, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- I've asked you before - we had a quick chat back on 15th May (see my talk page) - exams still ongoing hmm ? Luckily, I left all that behind ages ago :-) CultureDrone (talk) 09:57, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

I'll have a look through your edit history when I get a break - it's probably time I made comments in RfAs. Looking at the number of edits you've made, it might take a while ! Initially, good luck - just one word of warning (probably a case of grannies and egg sucking here, but...) it doesn't look like you've done it yet, but just steer clear of WP:CANVASS :-) CultureDrone (talk) 18:10, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Thank You
Thank you for the participation in my RFA. First off, I just wanted to say I've created more than 2 articles, User:Tinkleheimer#Articles_I_Created. :) And for the managers part, I don't mean to show them as a manager who is above others. I mean to show them as ones who get most of the questions and criticisms. And like most people, had a real outbreak with classes in Feb and March. Other than that, I will take everything you wrote to heart and will try and work on them. <3 Tinkleheimer TALK!! 19:20, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bang Bang Eche
Hey Ironholds! No no its fine, thanks for messaging me back and telling me what to do! I checked up on that page and i'm pretty sure Bang Bang Eche fits the bill...? 1. It has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent from the musician/ensemble itself and reliable (Theres a link to the website magazine article thisisfakediy down the bottom, they are quite a prestigious and reliable website) 2. Has been placed in rotation nationally by any major radio network (the songs nikee and 4 to the floor were on national roatation throughout the b.net) They also had those number one songs on b.net and won the b.net round up competition but im not sure if those two things are solid enough. [edit] Withdraw?
Hey Iron. It looks like your RfA has run its course. I was planning on closing it per WP:SNOW, but thought I'd see if you'd like to just withdraw before I do that. Let me know. Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 13:31, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- Usuually, you'd strike-through your nom-acceptance and then write something to the tune of "I withdraw", sometimes people elaborate a little further. If you know how to further format it in terms of "closing" it, then you can do that yourself. If not, either I will do it, or will notify an admin to do it. I'll keep an eye on it now. [edit] Zomg userbox controversey
Dude... lemme say right now that the RfA was a lil premature, but I give you moral support. That being said, the fact that so many people got their panties in a twist over that ubx is a little ridiculous. I am more inclined to suspect someone of midguided judgement (and have) if they have a ubx with "Evangelical Christian" than someone who realizes that anyone who believes in the literal word of the bible is more than just a little bit of a lemming. Anywhoo... in the end, the hypocrisy of WP will be that folks will defend the Christian's obx up and down, left and right, and in the end, prosecute you. I know... I neutraled an RfA due to a user's "stamp" on their page... wearing their religion on their sleeve, and proceeded to get reemed. People can scream "insult! insult!" till the cows come home, and yet someone who believes in eternal damnation and hellfire for being gay is insulting and even, in some cases, physically hurting others. Your calling religious folks crazy is simply throwing around words; do abortion clinic doctors get off that easily? Ya gotta ask, are some of these people really worth working with? Ya dont get to pick and choose which admins you deal with. That is enough for me to veto running for adminship, ever. Qb | your 2 cents 16:21, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- QB, certain pro-religious uboxes cause problems as well. Agnostic/atheistic userboxes are generally totally unproblematic. The issue here was the blue-linking of "imaginary friends" to "religion". Not that ridiculous to think people would be offended by that. Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 16:26, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

- Yes, I read that. Talking specifically about this case, just the word "religion" is mentioned, nothing about homosexuality. Show me an RfA candidate with any semblance of an anti-gay userbox, and I'll show you a failed RfA. QB, I think you and I probably have quite similar views on religion, although we certainly express them in a different way. There is simply no real need for anti-religion/pro-religion userboxes on wikipedia, once a few people say it is problematic, I just don't see why the user wouldn't remove it. This isn't myspace or facebook, what is the need for people posting their personal religious beliefs on their userpages? Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 16:50, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

- I agree, and yet, there are still religious ubx everywhere... You're an admin. A well respected one at that. If I were to bring up deleting these boxes, I would be flamed. Qb | your 2 cents 16:55, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

- In the end, I'm not a big fan of userboxes being heavily discussed in RfAs, as a reason to support/oppose. Truthfully, you might be flamed for discussing userboxes say a noticeboard venue, but then again, so would most users. It is just such a sensitive issue... this group of people is offended, this group isn't. Often, as you have astutely pointed out, people are quite biased towards their own beliefs, criticizing Anti-Religion boxes, but having nothing to say about Evan Christian boxes. Agh, what a mess... that is not a AN threat I would like to be involved in. Also, I'm not an admin, but I have been called one before :) Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 17:00, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

- How are you not an admin? Yeah, that AN thread would be icky very quickly. Especially with my history in the... oo, I cant even remember his name right now. Sufficed to say, it was an RfA with an Evan Christian box and I neutraled because I had issue with it and couldnt with good conscious vote oppose due to it. Meh. I wont start the discussion, but I would eat popcorn and read every juicy wikidrama-drop. Qb | your 2 cents 17:16, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

- Woah, interesting discussion, why's it on my userpage? :P. At the end of the day there are probably other reasons I failed. I have absolutely no problem with people going "woah, look at the userbox" as long as they 1) qualify that statement and 2) that's not their sole argument. One user came up with at least a cogent argument, that being that admins have to be without a smidgeon of visible bias since even if they approach a deletion with the most neutral of intentions they'll have someone screaming "foul" at them as soon as they see the userbox, but if I had it in the most perfectly neutral wording possible someone would still do that. Everyone holds opinions one way or another, i'd rather people be honest about them. Ironholds 20:33, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I agree that you will almost certainly make a good admin at some point. I would recommend spending some time in the mainspace- getting some recognised content is very satisfying, and looks great in an RfA. J Milburn (talk) 21:09, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Your Rfa
I'm extremely sorry If I have offended you but seeing your contributions, I made up my mind that you were hot-headed. If you have observed, many RfA's successful because they are generally more experience being at wikipedia for 2 or 3 years. The phrase power hungry is just the same meaning as hot-headed. Sincerely with no hard feelings, {Hellboy2hell (talk) 06:56, 11 June 2008 (UTC)}

[edit] Your RfA
Thanks for the compliment, and you're very welcome - but you should get out more ;-) It's a pity that the RfA partly turned into a disagreement on the use of certain userboxes - you still might not have succeeded this time based on your rapid deletion habits, but the result would probably have been closer. However, that's a matter for the next RfA ! I'm sure you're going to get lots of advice, but here's mine - feel free to disagree with anything/everything....
- Go for quality, not quantity - the number of edits someone's racked up (once they get to a certain level) is less important than the quality of the edits they make.
- Editors (and admins) generally like to see WP grow - almost a tacit inclusionist policy, regardless of what their userboxes say ! Spend less time CSD'ing, improve some stub/poor articles, and create a few articles of your own - you can always have a look round WP:MWA if you need ideas....
- Try cutting back on the deletionist side of you a bit - a lot of notability guidelines say redirecting can be a good idea - especially those related to non-notable music. Redirects are generally less contentious than deletes (though removing a stub article on someone's favourite album can start edit wars ! :-))
- Don't change your username - repeated changes are often inferred as having something to hide - perhaps unfairly, but it makes users suspicious from the start, especially if you've had 'issues'....
- Go for admin coaching - it may take a while to get it and complete, but it'll be a major plus, give you experience, and demonstrate maturity for the next RfA. DO NOT submit an RfA without the approval of your admin coach (even if you disagree with them) - this will seem like arrogance.
- Wait at least 6 months before submitting the next RfA - repeatedly submitting after a few months really pi**es some admins off, and they'll oppose purely based on the frequency and intervals between submissions, regardless of your editing - have a look at some of the failed RfA's, and you'll see what I mean.
Have fun with the editing, and good luck with the coaching :-) Feel free to chat anytime. CultureDrone (talk) 07:05, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- Oh - and vitally, vitally important is to not make the same number of stupid spelling mistakes I did when typing this in !! :-) CultureDrone (talk) 08:59, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

How is my remark offensive? I was just telling the truth. I'm not the only one who agrees, other editors who edit around the subject of Brazil do believe that lately articles created by Skanter or Blackable2323 about really small groups in Brazil are useless pages.
