I'd appreciate it if you would take a moment and review this category's talk page. It's my opinion that Cheeser1 has been disruptive - nominating the category for deletion so close to several other failed attempts. I'd appreciate feedback on my role throughout as well. It's not overly long, but I think it's an interesting topic for several reasons. Rklawton 21:59, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Help me assess my admin readiness?
Hey; it's been a little while since we talked, but I was wondering if you'd be able to help me out. Llywrch suggested you might be about to look at my edits and history, and give some input into whether I'm ready to make the jump to admin. It's a *smidge* earlier than I wanted (I was aiming for 2000 edits, 1000 of which were to mainspace, and as you can see by looking at my history, most are 'real' edits, though often small gnomey grammar fixes, that happen because I'm reading the page, instead of just rv vandalism stuff). This comes up now because, as part of Gnome Week, I'd like to commit to eliminating the backlog at the whitelist, but that admin bit will be necessary. I recently did a massive cleanup of that page, but can't clear the backlog because of the lack of admin bit. I posted about it to AN/I half a week ago, but got no response. I understand it, but I'd like to see the job done. In the past, when I've needed admin things done, I've asked and in a few days they're finished, but this one seems to have slipped. Since I'd very much like to do it, I'm considering taking the plunge. What I'd like to know is if you think a) I'm ready for an admin bit, and b) if you think an RfA would pass (which are different things) and c) What other things I might work on (keeping in mind I am, as Llywrch said, a janitor, not a policeman ;-) ). Thanks for your help! --Thespian 05:34, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Veropedia contributor
Hi Alison, the weather sucks here, so I'm staying in. What do you mean by Veropedia contributor? --Kyoko 23:51, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- Ummm. Uploader? Fvasconcellos is an expert on pharmacological articles (if I may say so :) ) Bummer about the weather. It's like an Irish summertime here in Cali - Alison ❤ 23:54, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- It's very Wuthering Heights here. I've uploaded a few articles so far. I need to ask Fvasconcellos about a source. --Kyoko 00:02, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm. Thank you, Alison :) Ask away, Kyoko—mail me if you'd like. As for my helping over at Veropedia, I'm not sure I could be much use; I've barely been having time to contribute properly here. There's a lot of stuff on my unwritten to-do list I haven't gotten to... Anyway, could you set up an account for me? Again, feel free to mail me with details, etc. I presume, like WP, there's no... obligation to contribute? I'm unreliable right now :D Seriously, I've a deadline hanging over my head until next week, and should really be off-wiki. I've contemplated a block, but that be really bad for my record—I pride myself on self-control :) Fvasconcellos (t·c) 00:05, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. While we invite everyone to make meaningful contributions to our encyclopedia, edits that seem intended solely to amuse or spread good cheer are considered obvious examples of WikiLove. If you continue in this manner you may receive a smile and/or hug in return. Please accept my thanks. Keep spreading the love, and consider improving a random article too. Thank you.
*hugs* Thanks, Alison! I should make a template out of this. It's a modified form of the old bv template. Did you get my mail re: Veropedia help? :) --Kyoko 22:33, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I made a template at User:Kyoko/Hug. I tried changing my monobook.js to add it vandalwhacking script, but now it doesn't work right. It is supposed to ask for the article name and then give the "warning" for edits to [article name]. It's not asking. I don't know where the mistake is. Could you please look at it. Please make sure that the Hug template is untampered and protected too. Thanks! Love, Kyoko 23:02, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Alison, I just sent you a message. Could you please look at my User:Kyoko/monobook.js and see why my script won't ask for the article name when using the Hug template? I can't figure out what is wrong. Every other template there works properly and prompts me to fill in the article name.

- I will, yep. I'm just in the door from shopping here & need a nap :) Will be back on later & will take a look. In the meantime, I semi'd the template, as requested. Thanks for the message, BTW :) My brain is not in a fit state to do template parsing right now though ... naptime! - Alison ❤ 00:20, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Lara bran redux
Sorry to bother you with this, but you are the admin most familiar with this editor. S/he is running riot on the Pederasty article (see history for list of changes) and is accusing an editor of vandalising multiple articles. S/he has even called for all of his Wikipedia edits to be reverted wholesale. S/he has been asked to leave the article alone until consensus has been reached. Until this morning, all involved were editing quite collegially. It is tiresome to have to patrol several articles (of which I have no particular interest in) solely to stop the disruptive contributions of one individual. How much rope to we give a disruptive editor before we allow them to hang themselves? By the way, this is now at admin incident discussion. Jeffpw 10:48, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- Lara has finally been indef blocked again. I'd have done it myself only Neil got in first. I totally endorse that block and will be weighing in on ANI in a minute - Alison ❤ 19:02, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- That was a long minute. :p He's clearly keeping an eye on ANI and responding on his talk page.[1] Hmm. Accusing an admin of bias... :) Thank you for endorsing the block. I genuinely believe that it is the most appropriate course of action. --AliceJMarkham 14:38, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

Red hair
Hands up big-time on that one. Sorry! I got myself into one hell of a mess - I knew I was reverting vandalism, but to be honest have never (in however many thousand edits) used the move function, so ended up getting things in the right place but, as you spotted, without necessarily having the edit history to back things up. I hope the edit history is all salvageable...I think I may take a bit of time out to bone up on WP:Move! Giles Bennett (Talk, Contribs) 22:44, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Well jeez, Alison, way to protect the wrong version. I guess I should have got my kicks in on the edit war before going to RFPP. :-P Thanks. ➪HiDrNick! 04:30, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry about that. given the amount of mayhem that was going on, there was little else to do other than slam on the brakes. I've no interest as to content once it's apparent that it's largely a content dispute. Semi-prot would have been just wrong in this circumstance. In fact, I initially semi'd it then moved it up to full - Alison ❤ 04:50, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
- No, I know, I was just teasing. I didn't think that semi-protection would fly when I asked for it, I just thought I'd give it a shot. Should have asked a newbie admin directly instead. :) ➪HiDrNick! 05:00, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Regarding the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, your help is greatly appreciated. I'd rather not translate the filth that the anon ip user kept inserting; suffice it to say, the comments were ethnic hate messages under the banner of nationalism. Much thanks.--Riurik(discuss) 23:05, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Electric Picnic
Hi, Alison! I'd ask you to reconsider full protection of Electric Picnic and move to semi-protection. It's senseless to ask editors reach a consensus on the talk page, because as far as I can see there is a consensus on the talk page: a rogue IP is continuously inserting unsourced, heavily POV material laden with weasel words and has no intention of discussing anything at all. Of the five editors who have participated on the talk page (including myself), four of them agree with this characterization and the other does not necessarily disagree. Just to let you know, I'd never seen this article before it was protected and I'd never heard of Electric Picnic before, so I consider myself a pretty neutral pair of eyes. Cheers! --Hyperbole 23:28, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- Ok - good call. Changing now, so. All I needed to see was some sort of consensus there because all I could see what a content dispute. I think Stu got a bit annoyed about it :( - Alison ❤ 00:07, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
No
It was no more reliably sourced than my edit was at all. Mine was just as reliably sourced and it was edited out by someone who was either a person of authority or posing as one. So please dispense with the warnings and issue them where they rightfully belong, those who are undoing my posts on the SBC listing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SBCwatch (talk • contribs)
- I'm sorry, but you're adding unsourced commentary to that article and a number of other editors are reverting your changes. Please try to find reliable sources for these controversial edits and you shouldn't have any problems. Simply reverting again and again will just get your account blocked for disruption. Please bring it to the talk page and the other editors will work with you on this - Alison ❤ 01:25, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Ok I get it now
I understand it now. Southern Baptists are off limits to criticism and nothing bad is allowed to be said or shown about Southern Baptists on Wikipedia, even if it is sourced very well, as my page was sourced reliably, which according to the rules is all that is required. I understand also that just about anything else or religious group can be criticized but that the Southern Baptists are off limits to that same reliably sourced criticism. You don't have to keep repeating yourself to me, and saying all kinds of mean nasty things to me. I get it now. Also could you please tell me how my page could have been potentially libelous when all the people listed on my page had been either convicted, or had already confessed? —Preceding unsigned comment added by SBCwatch (talk • contribs)
- I'm not a Southern Baptist - hey, I'm not even Christian. Please take your battle elsewhere and stop posting potentially libelous, unsourced material (especially not on your userpage). As I've been saying, please work with others to provide, reliable sourced information for those articles. Stop being disruptive and stop attacking other editors. Seriously, you're past your last chance here - Alison ❤ 17:25, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
So you too are of the opinion that the Miami Herald, the New Orleans Times Picayune and other newspapers that were the sources of my edit are UNRELIABLE sources? I have not posted anything libelous, or even potentially libelous, any more than the edit on the ELCA page was libelous that you allowed back on. I am just hoping for some consistency here but not very hopeful that it exists on Wikipedia with some of you editors at all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SBCwatch (talk • contribs) 17:42, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject Pharmacology Update
Here are a few updates in the realm of WikiProject Pharmacology:
- The Pharmacology Collaboration of the Week has been changed to Collaboration of the Month, based on current participation levels. It is also more likely that articles collaborated on for one month are more likely to achieve featured quality than articles worked on for only a week or two.
- The current Collaboration of the Month for November is Receptor antagonist. Please take a look at that article and contribute to it if you get a chance. Ideally, the article should adhere to the featured article criteria.
- Therapies for multiple sclerosis is currently a featured article candidate. If you are familiar with the featured article criteria, please visit WP:FAC and review the article.
- Anabolic steroid is the wikiproject's newest Featured Article, having been promoted on October 8, 2007.
- Theobromine was delisted as a Good Article. The Peer review and GA reassessment discussions provide suggestions on improvement. Muscle relaxant was recently reviewed for Good Article status, but not promoted. Please see the full review full review here for details.

Veropedia Account
Hi Allison...I was directed here from Moreschi's user page. I am interested in the new Veropedia site, and would like to learn what is required to be a contributor there. I am an amateur classicist (Veropedia adopted my recently-revised article on Propertius), and would like to contribute in a more scholarly environment. Can you help, thx:-)Chjones 60656 20:45, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
- Certainly, I can set you up with an account on Veropedia if you like. Just email me some details; your username, your "real name" (not necessary), your preferred email address & I'll do the rest. I'll mail on the welcome package :) If you like, you can join us on IRC at #veropedia & we can talk you through the process - Alison ❤ 21:03, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Help in restoring an article
Hello, Alison. I believe that an article was deleted in error — the Bennifer article. Not only is the term Bennifer (for Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez) just as notable a term as Posh and Becks, but it didn't go through a proper deletion debate (AfD)...or else I'd noticed, considering that it was on my watchlist.
I was wondering if you would either restore this article for me, or provide me with the text on my talk page so that I can recreate this article. All it needed was valid sources that show how notable this term is, not deletion. Flyer22 11:39, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
- Done - Hi there. I've userfied the article and you can now find it at User:Flyer22/Bennifer. I have to say, I'm slightly unhappy with this speedy deletion as it was deleted with the simple message; "CSD - Neologism", had not been templated by another editor (for that second opinion) and had quite an edit history with many editors contributing. Nor was the original author notified. Personally, I'd have sent it to AFD for the community to decide - Alison ❤ 17:31, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for your help on this matter, Alison. I will cite your comments shall a problem come up with my recreating this article after it's been speedy-deleted. I really appreciate your insight into this matter. Flyer22 19:27, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
External links to petition sites
I have a question, sorry if this is the wrong area, but i was wondering on the Xenosaga area, do we really need Petitions? you are an admin right, i mean Xenosaga as a series was discontinued after its 3rd game and the current storyline arc is basically done, i honestly don't think 2 petitions one with around 800 signitures, and the other with 1300 are going to make any kind of difference, as companys like Namco look more towards sales then anything else
So my point is, do petitions belong on wikipedia, i made an edit to remove but reverted incase i caused any drama, how does wikipedia stand on online petitions? everyone with a brain cell knows they generally don't work, and well Namco will never authorise another Xenosaga game anytime soon
feel free to delete this and comment on the ip address account this is posted from when you have the time, and once again sorry if this is the wrong area —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.128.1.61 (talk • contribs)
- Hi there. In my opinion, yes - those links aren't appropriate on the Xenosaga article; they're not encyclopedic, they're pretty useless anyways and also, Wikipedia is not a collection of links. That's what the Open Directory Project is for. So yes, please do remove those links and thanks, too, for trying to minimize "drama" - that's always good :) - Alison ❤ 17:22, 3 November 2007 (UTC) (copying to your talk page)

Hello, I'm aware that you have blocked me for a week but you don't understand. Half the reasons you blocked me were because of the things my dad said. It's true, ask chaser. He has already agreed to stay out of my buiness, so it would really be nice if you could ublock me now, and make it to where I'm able to edit my talk page because this is'nt my fault, and it's kinda unfair.69.131.155.183 18:19, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I've just blocked this IP address now for the duration of your week, for block evasion. I perfectly understand, and understand that you need to remain blocked for a number of days. What you did was completely out of line. Furthermore, it's unacceptable to have your account be used by multiple editors. You should really ask your father to get an account of his own. However, I've unprotected your talk page again. Abuse that again, as you have done, and I'll reprotect and extend your block - Alison ❤ 18:24, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Not endorsing
I have no opinion on the block. His comments about me do not bother me particularly and by his own standards are pretty mild. Though, of course, It says something that we judge Vk by his own terrible standards rather than what everyone else adheres to. However, you say "I've been watching VK's edits since the ArbCom ended and he's been fine up 'till now." Do you really think his two reverts over the issue of an Irish/British flag, followed by immediate accusations and political rhetoric, is not in conflict with his probation? This is exactly the sort of process that was typical during the troubles over the Troubles and, I would have thought, exactly the sort of thing the remedy is meant to counter. What is the point of having an ArbCom remedy that specifically restricts editor to 1RR and civility standards, when we just going to overlook them? Rockpocket 23:51, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
- The problem with the two reverts there was that he was not warned. When he was, he stopped. He genuinely unaware that he'd stepped over the mark into the areas of the ArbCom probation. Honestly, this was the first time the Arb provisions were invoked and he was caught out. You get to do that once (the plead ignorance bit) then no more. He's had his chance now - Alison ❤ 23:55, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
- I agree, which was why I warned him rather than blocking him. However, his umbrage at that warning (Get off my page, you have no right or reason be be here, you hate me, you are obsessed/bitter/twisted... etc) is not an acceptable reaction to an entirely justified warning. Whether a block will help him realise that is open for debate, but his edits, including and subsequent to his two reverts, most certainly haven't "fine" by my interpretation of ArbCom's remedies. That was what he was blocked for, not the "fine" edits prior to that. Rockpocket 00:04, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
- Moreover doing his best to "keep away from RP" is not a condition of ArbCom, and entirely irrelevant, especially when he he is content making these sorts of edits from the safety of his talk page. He has no need to keep away from me. If he would stop being disruptive, incivil and to stick to the terms of his probation, then I will stay away from him. Rockpocket 00:13, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
- I know. I know. But the thing is, you both need to keep away from each other at this stage. There are admins crawling over his page right now - it's not like there's no coverage. Part of our job involves stepping back in cases where our involvement may inflame an already bad situation. He's asked you enough times to keep away. You should, in fairness, or people will start to think you have it in for him and are goading him into another indef. I'm sure that's not the case, but that's what the perception will be - Alison ❤ 00:26, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
-
-
-
- As I said at ANI, I'm more than happy to stay away, but not at the expense of his ongoing disruptive behaviour. His page is crawling with admins now, but no-one seemed to notice his repetition of the behaviour that his probation is meant to stop. He is smart enough to know that if he kicks up enough of a fuss in response to any admin action, he can move the focus away from why there needed to be action in the first place. The admin army responds to the fuss he kicks up, not the original problem. I fail to see any merit in the position that someone with his atrocious record gets to choose which admins can enforce an ArbCom decision. The "perception" is created by giving credence to what he would like people to believe. That said, you can be assured I most certainly will not be going anywhere near his page again. Future revert wars will be dealt with by blocks per the terms of ArbCom. Rockpocket 01:32, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

- Alison, I have made a point of not revealing personal information about myself on-wiki. I'm really uncomfortable with some anon debating my nationality on Vk's talk page. Considering the history of threats he has made, and the fact that he has admitted receiving private information about other editors (cf. Frank) off-wiki. I have so far avoided getting involved myself (for obvious reasons) but the anon has now reverted 4 times. If it remains there I am going to block him and revert again myself. Any chance you would be willing to get rid of it again, if only to avoid further inflaming Vk by me setting foot on his home soil? (by the way, I'm surprised you thought I was an American... not even close, and neither is our anon troublemaker!) Rockpocket 07:20, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Vintagekits
Hi, Alison. We did communicate a few months ago when I was in difficulty about "Plastic Paddies". I was fairly new here then, and had not realised what a sensitive subject it was. Anyhow, I now seem to have establised a rapport with one of my former critics, Irishguy, and he recommended that I ask your help with regard to Vintagekits, who has returned from being blocked. Whereas I'm a fairly middle of the road, Fine Gael type, he obviously has strong views somewhat different to mine. I am sometimes unable to understand quite what he is saying, but he seems to find some of my comments uncomfortable and these lead to accusations of "trolling" and "spamming". Two recent examples concern the entries on Carrickfergus and West Briton.
I'm ignoring his last two messages, but I'd be grateful for any advice you can give me.
All good wishes,

Sock Problem
Hey Alison, I recently noticed a sock problem in Casino related articles. User:Bgtd began edit warring in a few of those articles and later created sock puppets to avoid a 3RR violation. User:21expert and User:Objective3000 were used to continue the disruption. Recently however an IP has been reverting and is believed to be another sock of User:Bgtd. See 68.239.78.89's contribs. The articles affected are Bellagio (hotel and casino), Caesars Palace, The Mirage, and Harrah's Entertainment. I would really appreciate it if you would look into this matter. Thank you. -- bulletproof 3:16 01:02, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Alison - I saw the message 3bulletproof16 added above and figured I'd leave a note here since the user in question, Bgtd, is back to work restoring and edit warring with various unsourced and/or pov-type edits on the following articles: Harrah's Entertainment and Caesars Palace. Easter/Good Friday controversy
If you have a moment, can you take a look at this article? A troublesome editor, Gee Emm Christlur, moved the article from Spring Holiday without discussion. Indeed, even worse, he moved the article after a long discussion about a possible page move, a discussion in which he did not take part, which discussion ended with the decision to leave the article where it was. This page move is part of a campaign on this user's part to revert what he sees as "anti-Christian" bias on Wikipedia. Whatever I think of his other edits, this page move seems highly improper. If you could give me your opinion, I would appreciate it greatly. Thank you, as always, for your time and attention. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 02:29, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
- Ok - I've moved it back but only due to previous consensus and hard work on the part of other editors. That, IMO, far outweighs WP:BOLD here. Note also that the first paragraph is now inconsistent and is now rather POV-laden due to the same editor's unilateral changes. You guys need to sit down and work through this, bring that editor along too and work out something that will work for all. He has a very valid set of points to make and should not be discounted due to his bulldozer approach here. I've commented on the talk page saying pretty-much this - Alison ❤ 06:20, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
- I appreciate your comments. Just so there is no misunderstanding, let me be clear that I had no involvement with this article before yesterday. I came upon it, honestly, because I was looking at Gee Emm Christlur's edits to see if he is consistently beligerent and unilateral in his edits. Unfortunately, I found that he is. I will do my best to try to work something out, if "Christlur" is amenable to it. Again, I appreciate what you've said here, and I thank you for your time. I've posted a message on VK's talk and put it to him, so that's a first step anyway. If he's in agreement, I'll see if I can find someone suitable - Alison ❤ 18:32, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
- His agreement I suspect is dependent on who decides to leap in with unsolicted advice in the meantime. Giano 18:54, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
- Alyson, firstly find out of VK is agreable to the idea, then find out if anyone is prepared to do it. He certainly in my view needs some help. I'm not liking what I'm seeing at the moment. Were I an admin I would offer myself, but I'm not and I also have something else demanding my time at the moment. Thanks for the revert, dear. That editor is a sock of User:Ln of x, long, long history (ask Queen or Philip or Isotope23 for the history, but their unblock request says it all, a fixation with Abi Branning (Lorna Fitzgerald)), so you may want to tag the talk page with the sock tag and protect it if need be. Transgender
Hello, I don't believe we've met. Nice to meet you.
Anyway, in my search for LGBT-related articles to upload to Vero I stumbled upon Transgender. It's been fixed up a little so it passes the parser but I would benefit from a second opinion on the content/subject matter since I know precious little about it. My sincere thanks for your support in my request for adminship, which ended with 51 supports, 0 opposes, and 0 neutral. Doubtless it was an error to put one of the government-bred race of pigmen in any position of authority, but I hope your confidence in me proves justified. Even a man pure of heart and who says his prayers at night can become a were-boar when the moon is full and sweet. Fortunately, I'm neither a were-pig nor pure of heart so this doesn't appear to be an imminent danger to Wikipedia for the moment. Fortunate as well because were-pig hooves are hell on keyboards and none too dexterous with computer mice. If ever I should offend, act uncivil, misstep, overstep, annoy, violate policy, or attempt to topple the fascist leadership of Wikipedia, please let me know so I can improve my behaviour and/or my aim. I am not an animal; I am an admin. And, of course, if there is any way in which I can help you on Wikipedia, please do not hesitate to ask me. Despite my japes, I am indeed dedicated to protecting and serving Wikipedia to the best of my foppish and impudent abilities. I will strive to be an admirable admin, shiny and cool, reasonable and beatific. Pigmanwhat?/trail 05:12, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Protection for Android and OHA?
Hello Alison. You've helped in the past when certain article were being vandalized by applying temporary semi-protection against anonymous users. I'm wondering if you could do the same thing with the Android (mobile phone platform) and Open Handset Alliance articles. Due to them dealing with current news events, they've been more susceptible to vandalism the last couple of days. Your help is greatly appreciated! Roguegeek (talk) 21:12, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- Declined – There is not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection at this time. If there's significantly more disruptive activity in the future, consider relisting. - Hi there. Green Kirby
Well, I'm back. What you did was quite unnecisary, as I could've handled the situation myself. "I should've done that sooner." was a very rude comment. I was already done after what A.R. said, which is why I did'nt responded. But no, you just had to protect my talk page. I left a few meassages on your irish language talk page requesting to be unprotected. Some time between my block, my dad managed to create his own account on another computer. So while he roamed freely as a user, I was still suffering my punishment. Well the point is, I survived. My dad's user name is Fred Cred, or something like that. He says he wishes to bring peace and censorship to wikipedia. How amusing. Mabey you should talk to him, or block him for a week to make him go through what I had to go through.Green Kirby 23:54, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- What I did was perfectly necessary, to be quite honest. Even after you were blocked, you went off hassling me across various wikis. The point here is not that you survived, but that you have hopefully learnt a lesson from this. If not, you'll just end up getting blocked again. Futhermore, I trusted you and unprotected your talk page after you abused the unblock process, only to find you doing it again. What else did you expect here? Cause and effect. It's nothing personal here, but I do need to ensure that your account do not disrupt the wiki or is used to harass other editors with homophobic claptrap. Please - learn your lesson, get back to editing and move on. Oh, and next time you see your dad, point him to our policy re. censorship - Alison ❤ 00:44, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

- Kirby, I don't dislike you. Take a hint from your block log, when Chaser indefblocked your account a few weeks back; "low level of contributions to articles don't justify all the drama; see user talk page". Since your unblock, you have made one article edit and dozens[11] of talkpage edits. Take the hint; forget your block and get back to editing. You're being seriously disruptive now, and you've had multiple chances. Next block will most likely be indefinite and it probably will not come from me either. Now please - you've been unblocked - take the chance and get back to editing - Alison ❤ 05:22, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Irish names in biography articles
Hi, I've just realised that you have contributed Irish "translations" for names in biography articles. A few days ago I stared a discussion on the provision of Irish names in biography articles on the new Wikipedia:WikiProject Ireland/Gaeilge project page. The consensus there is that it is wrong to conjure up Irish names for people contrary to the Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Ireland-related articles), there is very little evidence that these names have been used by the people they are attributed to. is As you've been involved in this, I would appreciate your views on the matter. For example, "Seán Óg O Maoláin" (Jackie McMullan) brings up nothing in a Google search.[12] This is not at all surprising considering that you came up with the "name". I'm sure you'd agree that names are facts, and as such, cannot be translated as if they were a piece of prose. Unless we know that a subject used/uses an Irish name and what form this takes, this encyclopaedia should make no reference to it as it may help spread misleading, indeed false, information.--Damac 22:36, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Veropedia
What is the real difference between Wikipedia and Veropedia? I may want an account, if it is to develop a good online encyclopedia without vandalism. Dreamy § 00:55, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- From what I understand, Veropedia takes the best versions of featured articles and saves them on Veropedia pages. Nobody will be able to edit/vandalize any of the pages. But this is my understanding of it, and it may be wrong. Trevor "Tinkleheimer" Haworth 01:14, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, that's exactly right. We correct and tidy good articles on Wikipedia, find sources, fix formatting issues, expand and reword. Once that articles are up to standard, they are uploaded to Veropedia where they cannot be edited by anyone, vandals included. It's a very rewarding exercise :) As part of the upload process, the articles are vetted by the "parser", which pick out and reports dead links, broken references, etc. Once the parser accepts the article as clean, it goes live on Veropedia. Were you speaking to me or K.scottbailey in reference to "calling you a dick"? If the former, where did I expressly call you that name? Thanks, VanTucky Talk 02:33, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Truce?
I apologize to you for accusing you of stalking me. I get very, umm, vigorous in my defense at RfA of those editors whom I judge as fine contributors, and I am building up a rather healthy disdain for the process they are forced to undergo. None of this excuses me for accusing you of stalking, and for that I apologize. I do not (and will never) agree with your reasoning on your oppose, or your judgment of VT's wikicharacter as intransigent. But that does not mean that we have to be at loggerheads, or have ill-will at all times between us. Truce? K. Scott Bailey 02:48, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, truce indeed, so. You do know what went wrong, yes? In your zeal, you nearly nuked VanTucky's RfA single-handedly. If someone wants to voice a negative opinion, it's best to just let them. Challenging them (esp. in the manner in which you did) will 1) prove their point for them, 2) get them all defensive and produce yet more diffs/evidence/comments, 3) reflect extremely poorly on the candidate. This was never my intent but was pretty-much what happened here. I never went down the road of personal attacks and accusations of lying; that was both of you guys. Then you took the fight to others' talk pages and started bad-mouthing Giano and others. My final comment was for VanTucky, and was my attempt to distance him from your abyssmal behaviour over there, in deference to him. Not good, sir - Alison ❤ 20:02, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- You say "yes", and then proceed to lecture me? No thanks. Is this how you always respond to an olive branch after a contentious discussion? I'll simply take a "stay away from me and I'll stay away from you" approach (as much as possible anyway) to your contributions from this point forward. K. Scott Bailey 20:29, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- Good enough for me. Your personal attack on VanTucky's RfA remains un-apologized for and I see you've now taken to berating User:Eliz81 for daring to disagree with your opinion. Nothing learnt whatsoever here. Goodbye - Alison ❤ 20:35, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

If you wish to comment about me or my contribs, please direct those comments to my talk page, and I will do you the same courtesy. Thanks, K. Scott Bailey 20:50, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Vintagekits again
Sorry to bother you again, Alison, but Vintegekits continues to cause problems. He vandalised my Talk page (now fixed), deleted some valid comments I made on West Briton, and is "reporting" me for what I said about Carrickfergus. Details of this are to be found on Irishguy's Talk page, under the heading West Briton. I'd be most grateful to you for your advice. - I would watch what you are saying Millbanks, you have made personal attacks against me on a number of pages now with no evidence, no links, no diffs etc - I did not "vandalise" your talk page I placed a invite to the WP:IR on it like I do with many editors that edit WP:IR articles - which you have. O know you are a relatively inexperienced editor in terms of the number of edits you have made but you have been around a long time and know about both WP:NPA and also more importantly WP:OR.
- I wiped the "conversation" per WP:TALK - this is not boards.ie - your posts had nothing to do with the article and you are once again just using talk pages to ramble on with your own POV - just like this. Irish Guy has warning you on a number of occasions not to use talk pages as a chat room eg. here where he said you were "using article talk pages as a venue to spread your personal POV which has nothing at all to do with improving the article" and "Stop treating article talk pages as chat rooms" - funnily enough you replied to him "I make valid comments which make you feel uncomfortable, while semi-literate, obscene, sectarian and racist comments are allowed to remain" - sounds familiar doesnt it!!
- The upshot of this is plain to see on the Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents page.
- Again you were warned here and asked you to "please stop using the article talk pages as a discussion forum" for making this edit
- Finally Millbanks is formerly User:Bill_Tegner and you can see from his talk page here that we went through months of the same thing here. In fact here Alison herself tell you to go and find a chat room
- I have no problem with you your culture or religion - I have never mentioned religion ONCE in any of my thousands of edits on wiki, however you always bring it up so thats just not going to wash - my issue is that you use article talkpages as web chatrooms, in the main you dont edit edit the actual articles and you dont provide references or sources for what you are trying to say - per WP:V or WP:RS and thats not even mentioning the breach of WP:SOCK arising from using two accounts to cross edit on the same article talk page.--Vintagekits 10:36, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
- Just spotted this as well. Millbank/Bill Tegner has been made well aware of the issues relating to talk pages - five or six warns have been given about this maybe some formal actions needs to taken or a final warning per WP:NPA, WP:TALK and WP:OR.--Vintagekits 11:29, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
Waterboarding, again
Check out: Talk:Waterboarding#Circular_empty_talk. Fingers crossed. I archived that complete mess of a discussion section above that also. If people are going to squabble over the silly ultra minor details nothing is going to get done, and having stared at that article for two days, I can't see any other solution to the is/isn't question that is our major stumbling block. Anyone who won't adhere to NPOV simply won't be able to work on that article, much. I can't see any other way. • Lawrence Cohen 18:46, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Revision and Deletion of an article
Hi,
i wrote an article on en.wikipedia some time ago and worked on it over the time. A few days ago i was told that it is marked for deletion (the article named "Oos"). At Wikipedia:Why_was_my_page_deleted? I found out that administrators can re-open the article so that it can be improved. Could you re-open the article so that I can improve it ?
Thanks a lot
Greets,

Veropedia invite
Thank you very much for the invitation to participate in Veropedia. I may be interested, but reading your post was the first time I had ever heard of it, so I need to do a little research first. I'm pretty new as a Wikipedian (although I have a long history of correcting grammatical errors), and I have found the cleanup of dab pages to be the perfect project for me right now with my time constraints. I started out proofreading and copyediting, which I do enjoy, but it takes a bit more mental energy and longer blocks of time. The nice thing about WP is that cleanup projects abound, so there's no need to get bored! I'm sure I'll get tired of the dab pages after a while and change to a different project...maybe Veropedia is it. When you have time (I can see that I never want to be an admin), maybe you could explain the work that is needed there, and what you think I could do to help. Thanks again. About Veropedia
Hey Alison, hows it going? I was looking around Wikipedia today and ran into Veropedia. I was wondering if you could provide me with more information on what a user on Veropedia would do. This seems very interesting to me, because I am growing increasingly annoyed with most of my time here on Wikipedia having to be geared towards fighting vandals and other things outside of writing articles. I came here to Wikipedia ready to write, but know I am caught up with all the bureaucracy that goes with this site. I was just wondering if Veropedia would be a better place for me, as it seems more rewarding. Thanks for any help. Hope you have a good day/night.

You know everything - more importantly, you know everyone
As you've some experience with dealing with editors whose contributions are 95% valid, 5% flaming, have you any suggestions on what can be done with this sorry saga? (See User talk:Canterberry and this AN/I thread for the background to the whole sorry mess.) I'm looking for someone who's totally uninvolved, is used to dealing with flamewars and is willing to wade through content disputes on articles about railway lines, and am racking my brains trying to think of someone. The obvious candidate, Giano (don't laugh - this is the kind of situation he shines in) has rather a lot on his plate right now. Any ideas? — iridescent 02:24, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

My Abject Apology
I wanted to let you know, now that VT's RfA has failed, that I am deeply sorry for allowing our disagreement on the matter to escalate as it did. After some reflection, my perception that a great editor was going down clouded my own views regarding those who were opposing him. I should never have allowed my frustration to boil over on you as it did. Please accept my complete and unequivocal apology. Regards, K. Scott Bailey 00:44, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Hello Alison, it appears that poor editing in this article resumed immediately after you unprotected the page. User:Frangible has added original research, a non-notable section about the Wikipedia "controversy", misrepresented statistics, and has bandied about the "vandalism" accusation (against me!). I think this article (and/or user) warrants a second look. Rklawton 15:03, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

- Yes, I did, and it's not something I usually do, either. However, their contribs spoke volumes about where they were going, as well as the short time between edits, they were patently not here to build an encyclopedia. Futhermore, given the reputation of the name (there has been a run on "pwn***" vandal names before), things were not likely to turn out well. Would you like me to AGF, unblock and apologize? Kirby, you might want to watch your tone (maybe WP:TONE, I'm not sure if anything is there, but if so, you should read it). To me, your tone seems disrespectful to me, Sukecchi, and even Allison. With me and Sukecchi, it is not that bad, but Allison is an Administrator. She has authority over you. You were really close to a block again. Just reread what you write, and think to yourself, will anyone take this wrong way? Trevor "Tinkleheimer" Haworth 03:13, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

- Wait, wait, wait. Tinkleheimer, admins have no "authority" over anyone. They do have special "tools". Admins are just regular editors, but because they have those tools, and are supposed to be more trustworthy and are held to a higher standard. I know Alison knows this, but I just wanted to set this straight on this page. There is too much admin abuse going around, and quite a few admins think they are "above" the rest of the editors but that is not, nor should be the case. Again, this is not to Alison, she's a good admin. this is to you and anyone else who reads your message, in that admins have more "authority". I'm afraid that is a common misconception, and the more people who think this way, and believe it, including those "rogue admins" are out of line. Blocks are to prevent disruption to the project, they are not supposed to be punitive at all. I see that a lot lately. This has to stop. (Alison, sorry to use your page for this, but I felt I had to speak up about the misconception of what power admins hold.) Admins are not the police, and they need to get that notion right out of their heads. - Jeeny (talk) 04:31, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- What Jeeny said! :) Admins are more like janitors. We work behind the scenes, cleaning up and keeping the place running smoothly. We don't command more authority than anyone else. Everyone here; anon editors, registered editors, admins, etc, have the exact same standing in the community; no more and no less. We just have a few more buttons, is all, and what we're here for is preventing disruption and upholding community decisions. We're just editors, no big deal at all :) - Alison ❤ 04:59, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

I try my best to help this kid, but nothing seems to work :(. I tried my best to get him to understand the tone of what he was saying. - I certainly hope all this nonsense is over...and he's not going to be unblocked a day later like he was last time. You try to help the kid and you get the 'leave me alone' defensive. Rather than doing as he was told to help him. Oh well. Also think that this comment "Dear God! More disc space! The horror! The horror! Sometimes you guys are WAY to unreasonable. Re User_talk:Green_Kirby#Blocked, I endorse this block. Thank you for doing it and handling things while I was away. I'm sorry that it has come to this, but I think it wholly appropriate. His talk page became a mess the last time I indefinely blocked him, so it may be necessary to simply protect it again. I'll do that if I'm online.--chaser - t 12:37, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

George Cross
Hello. Apparently you don't think winners of the George Cross, the second highest decoration for gallantry in Britain, are automatically notable. I'd be interested in hearing your reasoning for this, seeing as it flies in the face of wikipedia policy and common sense. Nick mallory (talk) 02:33, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- Answered at User talk:Rifleman 82. Please try to remain civil here - Alison ❤ 02:50, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
It was your comment there which prompted me to ask you this question here. It is not 'rude' of me to ask you why you don't think winners of the George Cross are inherently notable. After all Wikipedia's notability guidelines for people say that a person is generally held to be notable if "The person has received significant recognized awards or honors." The George Cross is clearly such an honour, second only to the Victoria Cross. Once again I ask merely for an answer to my question, simply telling me not be "rude" in asking it is not a satisfactory answer. You have provided no evidence or reasoning whatsoever to back up your claim and I merely look forward to seeing some substance to your assertion that a winner of this award should be deleted. Nick mallory (talk) 04:46, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- "Flies in the face of [...] common sense" strikes me as being rude, as does "What are you talking about?". Either way, I've replied on User talk:Rifleman 82 and am waiting further information from David Underdown, who has brought up a valid point. Frankly, some of your GC articles are two or three lines about an otherwise non-notable person (dispute aside) and regardless of the point of view of a Wikiproject, they seriously look on the bad side of Wikipedia:Notability. Given the evidence to-date, this is not an unreasonable premise - Alison ❤ 04:55, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Green Kirby
Hello:
I'll be honest with you; I'm Green Kirby's dad. Some of the issues he's had on his talk page are my fault. Parents have a hard time not defending their kids. But I no longer do that.
His subsequint issues are maturity. I'm amazed at the number of contributers that asked him to stop using Wikipedia as a chat room, and yet he did as he pleased. This lack of ability to grasp reality until privilages are yanked is a concern my wife and I address every day.
But he's a good kid. He nurtures his recently adopted Asian sister and responds well when I stick a finger in his face and yell.
I won't request that you change your mind; I'll only say that we regret the growth he'll miss without your guidence. This kid is a writer and film maker waiting for the future.
Hope all is well with you and your family.

Hey, thanks!
Thanks for the interest in my proposal for a WikiProject Feminism. Dunno if there's really going to be enough people to make a project of it but, eh, might as well try. I've sort of been waiting for someone else to do it but I got tired of waiting. Then again there's that little fact that I'm male; talk about presumption. But, then again, I'm not a control freak about my approach to it. I'm just seeing if I can get something going. If others want to take leadership or point on it if it develops, I'm totally fine and cool with that. Cheers, Pigman☿ 20:54, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Revert removal of fake interface
Hi Alison, I'll tell you what I've told a dozen other people: Show me the policy I am supposedly violating. I have discussed this at length with a number of administrators in the past and they have said there is no definite policy on the faking of the user interface on a user page. The link you provided in your edit summary is exactly what I'm talking about: At worst, it is frowned upon. But most users manage to find a reason to smile about it. The last time someone removed the fake interface from my user page, they were blocked for their personal attack in their edit summary. I reported that user to an administrator and explained to him what that user was trying to do. The administrator blocked the user in question for his personal attack, but made no attempt to remove the fake interface again. Another user nominated the page that the fake interface links to for speedy deletion. Another administrator came along and removed the speedy deletion tag, pointing out to the other user that it was a user page and no attempt had been made to discuss it with me first. Again, this different administrator made no attempt to remove the fake interface from my user page. I would say that is pretty concrete evidence that they don't mind the faking of the user interface so long as it is restricted to user pages. Anywhere else would most certainly be inappropriate, but it does not create any problems on a user page. In fact it just makes people amused/annoyed with themselves for falling for such a trick when they click on it. If at some point a policy against simulating the interface is established, I will comply with it. Until then, I am keeping it on my user page. In the future (unless there is actual vandalism on a user page or a policy has been violated) discuss changing the page with the related user before editing it yourself. Any such edits without discussion first are considered quite rude. Thank you and have a nice day.--Just James T/C 00:55, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Humorous?
Please don't take this the wrong way because I respect you a lot not only as an admin but also an editor but I'm surprise to see you describe !!'s user page as humorous. It seems to be openly antagonistic and just take more jabs at Durova. She made a huge mistake in blocking !! and has been royally raked over the coals many times over. All the difs that !! post have already be discussed on posted on the RfC, user talk pages and at the ArbCom. Is it really fair to keep taking jabs, especially in a sarcastic manor? I don't know how you could find that humorous. AgneCheese/Wine 19:13, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
- Listen to the substance of what I was just saying[21]; it's time to let it go. This guy has been picked on and beaten up enough as it is - please cut him some slack here. Complaining to ANI about someone userpage without allowing them to respond (as you did) is just stirring more drahmaz. This isn't what Wikipedia needs right now. The guy has a somewhat Pythonesque sense of humour. It's time to nod towards that and move on. People making a big issue (without mentioning the war again) of hir humour has already generated a storm ... over nothing. Let's learn from that - Alison ❤ 19:21, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
- It is not about victimology and even humor can be misplaced and needlessly hurtful. Do two wrongs ever make a right? If another user lost their temper with me in a editing discussion and said some homophobic comments would that justify me to create a mocking template that says "Hey look at the silly homophobe and the stupid stuff he said?" I agree that !! was wronged but I don't think his userpage is doing anything to help the community and comes across as a petty jab at Durova. Even if it is not intention it is still mocking, hurtful and unnecessary. My posting to ANI was after I attempted to make contact with !! but was quickly bulldozed by his friend Giano. I know from the past that once Giano has made his mind up about something there is little room around him. I had no idea if !! was on or when/if he would ever see the message buried in his talk page history. I went to the ANI board because I thought continued and unneeded antagonism was something that Admins would be concern with and would hopefully have better luck getting past Giano's gatekeeping. It is somewhat disheartening to see that I was mistaken. AgneCheese/Wine 19:37, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
- Sour grapes. Durova earned the backlash without !!'s help (even by her own words it was her 'worst' investigation ever), and !! deserves some latitude for humor. Keeping it going on AN/I or anywhere else is pointless. !!'s page will be archived soon enough. If you can't smile and find any humor then don't read the page. - A couple of us have, without having read Alison's or other's comments, said on !!'s talk page that we find the userpage humorous. I think he deserves to find any humour in this situation that he can, on his own pages, and it's sick and sad that people are 'telling on' him for it after what he's been through.Merkinsmum (talk) 21:15, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Disclosure
Hi all. I have a few things I need to say publicly here, to make sure everything is out in the open and to clear things up.
Recently, User:CMoreschi posted this message to the WikiEN-l mailing list. I'm not a member myself, but it was brought to my attention.
I was subscribed to the "Wikipedia and Cyberstalking" mailing list from October 10 until October 17. I joined because I believed it to be a group for those who have been stalked on Wikipedia. I'd recently been, as many folks here know, and I needed help and support. After waiting for a few days, I realized it was for none of these things, and I unsubbed never to go back there.
I posted two messages in total, copied below; an "I'm here" message, and a "leaving" message. As they are written by me, I am including my text below:
and, some days later;
... and I was removed from the list. No unsub messages, nothing.
Some people have asked me for copies of emails. Honestly, not much happened really and I unsubbed pretty quick once I realized the nature of the place. I promised confidentiality when I joined (as ya do, given stalking involves vulnerable people) and I'm honour bound by that.

Request for advice.
I request advice to give to a spoiled youngster that got involved in something he wasn't ready for. This youngster made too many mistake to list. But he is a bright, loving and caring kid. If you can suggest some areas I can work with him that would help in the future, I would appreciate it. Many of the users he tried to spar with were older and wiser that him. But I now realise sparring is not the purpose of this site and manners are valued. I don't expect this user to be back on this site any time soon, but there may be some issues you can advice me on. It's nice to hear you swam through a dark, cold, river in the middle of the night without drowning. Been there, done that. Personally, I began treading water in the middle of the river and was unable to see either bank. But I'm here. You probably already know that you're not out of the water just yet. A question...
I came here to ask a simple question, I think... Then, I saw your message at the top about depression, needing time away from here, etc., and I forgot whatever it was I wanted to ask you about. I am sorry to hear that you have been "out of sorts" (as my grandmother would have put it) recently, and believe me when I say I know of what I speak. People who have never experienced depression---real, clinical, depression---do not know what it is like. But, those of us who've been there know how damned hard it is somedays just to get up and try to feel human. I needn't belabour the point. Let me just say that I wish you well, in this and in all things. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 22:02, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
Core competition
This is a brilliant idea. I personally think this should be done more regularly - I am certian we would see a great deal of improvement this way and is gives users an incentive to address what really needs doing and some kind of reward other than barnstars for doing it. The Amazon River and Clint Eastwood are possible ones that interest me. I think of this as kind of like an investment in the project.
