I…um…learned from Elara. ;) It's interesting, because sometimes (as you've noticed) I use slightly looser language on the net than I would in real life, but in real life I only swear when, well for example if somebody was threatening my daughter or sister or mother or pretty much anyone in my family, I would likely lose it and indulge my taste for the verbal colour palette. Nobody seems to do the First Sonata—it's big, extremely taxing and hard as hell to hold together. Olli Mustonen recorded a version recently that works for me. You seem to be one of the only musically informed (judging by your edits) editors of the Tuba article. I suspect that many of the composers listed in the "Roles" section are either not all that notable, or are not even composers, but just the names of some middle-schooler's friends. (===Roles===) An orchestra usually has a single tuba, though occasionally a second tuba is required. It serves as the bass of the brass section, as reinforcement for the strings and woodwinds, and as a solo instrument.

The Symphonie Fantastique by Hector Berlioz was the first major work orchestrated for tuba. It was originally scored for two ophicleides, but Berlioz changed it after hearing the newly invented tuba. Other composers also composed influential parts for the tuba, including:

• Maurice Ravel (Pictures at an Exhibition - Bydlo)
• Richard Strauss (Also sprach Zarathustra, Eine Alpensinfonie).
• Shostakovich (Fifth symphony).
• Stravinsky (The Rite of Spring).
• Edgard Varèse (Déserts).

Concertos have been written for the tuba by many notable composers, including Ralph Vaughan Williams, Edward Gregson, John Williams, Alexander Arutiunian, James Woodward, Eric Ewazen, James Barnes, Martin Ellerby, Rober Jager, Alexej Lebedjew, Philip Sparke, and Bruce Broughton. Tubas are also used in concert bands, marching bands, and in drum and bugle (and drum and brass) corps. In British style brass bands, both E-flat and B-flat tubas are used and are normally referred to as basses.

A couple of them (Barnes & Woodward, I think) lead to disambiguation pages which don't include a composer in the list; Broughton is a film composer, and his article that reads like a press release. It seems that, with such a short list, there are undue weight and possible COI issues. I'll remove the redlinks and bad links for now.
