Artist: Boris Artzybasheff Source: Time.com Public domain explanation A search of U.S. copyright renewal records reveals that Time Inc. renewed no copyrights to issues of Time magazine or their content originally published in 1953, including this one. Such renewal was then required to maintain copyright status. A search of copyright renewal records reveals that the painter of the portrait that constitutes the primary original substance of the cover, Boris Artzybasheff, did not renew his copyright on the portrait, if any. Correspondence with the reprints dept. at Time.com informing them of the results of this search and inquiring if they had any information to the contrary produced no such assertion, merely a statement that the cover contains trademarked material, as detailed below. Trademark explanation The magazine title "TIME" in its particular typeface is a en:trademark of Time Inc. Use in en:Alfred Kinsey The image is of low resolution. Its use does not in any way infringe on Time Inc.'s represented trademark. It is used to illustrate Time's notable coverage of the article's subject and helps the reader to understand the specific and unusual imagery used in depicting him, as detailed in the article's text.
