Arno Tausch (nacido el 11 de febrero de 1951 en Salzburgo, Austria) es un politólogo de Austria y uno de los fundadores de las investigaciónes cuantitativas sobre el sistema mundial y el desarrollo en Europa.
Es uno de los cientificos quienes contribuyeron, desde hace sus inicios, a la publicación académica conjunta de la Universidad de Málaga y la Universidad de Cádiz, Entelequia. Revista Interdisciplinar. Es hoy miembro del consejo cientifico internacional de la citada revista.
Dr. Tausch es un participante activo en el movimiento de la teología de la liberación y del movimiento ecuménico y diálogo entre las grandes religiones del mundo. Él está involucrado en el estudio de los efectos cuantitativos de la Globalización sobre los sistemas sociales. También es frecuente contribuyente a los artículos de revistas de alta circulación en Austria, al igual que Das Jüdische Echo,Die Zukunft, e International. Die Zeitschrift fuer internationale Politik. Dr Tausch está casado desde 1978, y tiene tres hijas.
Tausch recibió su doctorado en ciencia política de la Universidad de Salzburgo en 1976 y su habilitación de la Universidad de Innsbruck. Su comisión de habilitación fue presidida por Anton Pelinka, cuyos árbitros externos fueron Ulrich Albrecht y Winfried Röhrich. También formó parte Karl Deutsch de la Universidad de Harvard.
Actualmente es Profesor Adjunto (Universitaetsdozent), de Ciencias Políticas en la Universidad de Innsbruck, Anteriormente fue profesor visitante Asociado, Departamento de Ciencia Política, Universidad de Hawai en Manoa, Estados Unidos, e, Investigador Invitado , Instituto Internacional de Investigación Social Comparativo, Centro de Ciencias, Berlín Occidental (ahora: WZB - Centro de Investigación de Ciencias Sociales de Berlín).

Se desempeñó como diplomático de Austria en el extranjero y fue el Consejero de Trabajo y Migración en la Embajada de Austria en Varsovia y él es ahora Consejero Ministerial de la División de Coordinación de la Unión Europea (V.1) en el Ministerio de Asuntos Sociales y Protección del Consumo en Viena.

Hasta mediados de 2007, ha sido autor o co-autor de 13 libros en Inglés y 5 en alemán, y más de 150 artículos diversos en 6 idiomas. Ha sido publicado por los principales editores, incluido Dutch University Press, Nova Science Publishers NY, Palgrave Macmillan, y otros.
Sus obras también están disponibles en la Universidad de California, Riverside, el Red Mundial de Desarrollo en la Universidad de Sussex, y en el Red de investigación en Ciencias Sociales en Nueva York y en IDEAS en la Universidad de Connecticut.

Impresionado, pero poco convencido por su temprana formación en la economía neo-clásica, pronto se dirigió al estudio cuantitativo de la economía política y la ciencia política cuantitativa. Después de terminar su doctorado en la Universidad de Salzburgo, ganó un puesto como profesor asistente de ciencias políticas en la Universidad de Innsbruck en el otoño de 1977.
Junto con Otmar Höll y Kunibert Raffer, Tausch pionero los estudios sobre el sistema mundial y la dependencia en Austria desde mediados del decenio de 1970 en adelante. Durante los últimos años 1970, investigadores como Volker Bornschier y Dieter Senghaas comenzaron a remitir periódicamente a su obras. Su primer verdadero trabajo reconocido internacionalmente fue el ensayo, escrito con Otmar Höll,en Austria y la periferia de Europa, en 1980.
Su libro más influyente es la Teoría Socio-Liberal de Desarrollo Mundial (1993), que cuantitativamente da pruebas de la relevancia de los programas de reforma presentadas por los demócratas sociales de Europa durante la década de 1920. Se basa en estudios de los patrones de desarrollo en todo el mundo desde el decenio de 1960.
Durante el decenio de 1980 y los principios de 1990, trabajó estrechamente el economista australiano Ted Wheelwright, el investigador sueco Björn Hettne, el investigador polaco Zbigniew Bablewski, y el poltico y cientico finlandés Kimmo Kiljunen en el marco de la Asociación Europea de Investigación para el Desarrollo (EADI)). Los resultados de estos esfuerzos incluyen el estudio de la Universidad de las Naciones Unidas (1989).
Fue uno de los primeros autores que presentaron escépticas evaluaciones de la Perestroika y el proceso de transformación. Su Russlands Tretmühle (Rusia rodante) predijo un nuevo endurecimiento del régimen ruso.
Su posterior trabajo, escrito después de su entrada en servicio público en 1992, es sobre el análisis de la política social y la migración en la nueva Europa ampliada después de las terapias de choque, que experimentó la región.
Después de volver a Viena desde su trabajo como diplomático en Polonia, Tausch trata de los análisis de las contradicciones del proceso de ampliación de la UE, aspectos de la reforma de las pensiones, y con el inagotable debate sobre Islam y desarrollo. Como autor ha editado, coeditado o contribuido a las mismas obras, con Samir Amin, Christopher Chase-Dunn, Andre Gunder Frank, e Immanuel Wallerstein.
Durante la última década, su obra contribuyó al debate acerca de la llamada islamofobia. Esto se ha convertido en una pauta de la definición de sus escritos después del cambio de milenio: la oposición al Salafismo (distorsiones salafistas de la fe musulmana), pero también oposición a la islamofobia. Fue uno de los primeros en estudiar aspectos de la pobreza musulmana en Europa.
Como editor de libros, Tausch más tarde trabajó en particular en estrecha colaboración con el economista británico Syed Mansoob Murshed. Sus propios trabajos empíricos sobre las relaciones entre el Islam y los patrones de desarrollo, que claramente contradicen Samuel P. Huntington, fueron particularmente bien recibidas en el mundo musulmán, y se basan en estudios politometricos en todos los países con datos disponibles.
Los científicos turcos Bulent Aras y Suat Kiniglioglu contribuyeron activamente a la recepción de Tausch y sus obras en las dos principales revistas de ciencias política en Turquía, Alternatives y Insight Turkey, que es una especie de revista semi-oficial de la política exterior del país.
El último capítulo de su análisis del Islam y desarrollo es el análisis sistemático de los datos de la Encuesta Social Europea, que contradicen opiniones alarmistas sobre los musulmanes y las musulmanas en Europa, y argumentan a favor de lo que llama el autor una perspectiva del proceso de Lisboa”
En los analisis sobre el proceso de Lisboa, especialmente trabajó en estrecha colaboración con Almas Heshmati.
Sus últimos escritos sobre la reforma de las pensiones fueron influenciados por Franco Modigliani y Robert Holzmann, director del departamento de protección social en el Banco Mundial. Él también contribuyó al volumen de comemoración, dedicado al Premio Nobel de Economía, Franco Modigliani.
Habiendo salido de la "torre de marfil" de la "ciencia pura", en diciembre de 1991, el impacto de sus escritos puede ser considerado como considerable.[1]
Sus publicaciones aparecieron en la serie de importantes centros de estudios de política exterior en Argentina, Luxemburgo, Polonia y Turquía. En 2007, fue un orador en el "Davos de Oriente", el Foro Económico de Krynica en Krynica, Polonia.
Recientemente ha contribuido también a la revista analítica de las Fuerzas Armadas de Austria, y a la revista distribuida muy ampliamente - Europäische Rundschau.
En 1998, la Estadounidense Associación de Libreriras de Colegio y de Investigación señaló su obra principal "Hacia una Teoría Socio-Liberal de Desarrollo Mundial" como uno de los mas importantes libros academicos en el período 1993 - 1998.
En enero de 2008, Arno Tausch se clasificó entre los top 5%” de los economistas a nivel mundial por el sistema RePEc / Ideas de la Universidad de Connecticut.
