Thanks, finally for someone coming around and reviewing it. I'm always glad for outside comments; many of your suggestions will be incorported very soon as I do want the article to pass.

I only wish to respond in part to one aspect of your comments: the use of names. I used them because I've seen a number of peer reviews/FA noms etc. where editors got faulted over running quotes attributed to unnamed people, especially when those quotes are attributed to identified persons in the source material (as all the ones you pointed to are). I tend to agree ... it looks like you're weaseling.

I would also consider that, as the article makes clear, the subject is a person about whom many people speak anonymously and are then quoted as such in reliable sources we can use. I thus prefer to identify people as much as possible in that situation, so it looks less like a gossipy hit job and more like an evenhanded treatment of her life.

I'll certainly look at cutting down on the attribution, and perhaps some of the quotes, but I just want you to understand my reasoning on that. Daniel Case 20:41, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Actually, I do have one other issue, going over this again today as I'm making changes, that I need to find some middle ground on. I don't know if you read the peer review (given how deeply hidden the link is on the talk page now I wouldn't be surprised), but as you can see the last suggestion there was to integrate the popular culture section (at that time a bulleted list) into the rest of the article (as you probably know, there's quite a few people who think we have entirely too many of those sections and that they're cruft and OR magnets).

So, given that, do you think that it's necessarily such a good idea to restore that section? I could see doing that, but if I eventually take it to FAC (as I'd like to at some point), I'm sure I'd have to tear it back down.

Also, I am uncomfortable with removing The Devil Wears Prada from the criticism section even though it would shorten it up. It counts for both "in popular culture" and criticism since it did incorporate a lot of longstanding criticisms.

As I said on the fashion project talk page, this is the first GA in it to have been at least partially developed to that level under that project's auspices. I feel more attached to it than I did to New Coke, "my" other GA. To see how much I developed it, take a look at what it was right before my very first edit to it.

I have decided to put the full-length versions of those quotes I truncated in the Wikiquote page with all the other ones. I started that because I found, while writing and developing it, that you got to understand her best through the observations of other people (Amiel's are most interesting).

I do think, as with any GA, that a little more work would be necessary before taking this to FAC. In this case I think it needs the two images I mentioned on the talk page, plus some extra perspective that could be derived from reading the relevant portions of Liz Tilberis and Diana Vreeland's memoirs. So it will probably be a while — I'll probably put a to-do box on the talk page in the meantime. I have some other things to move onto now ... most notably another GA nomination I've been planning from a quite different field, U.S. Route 9 in New York (if you want, take a look and give me any feedback you want ... there was next to none during peer review).

Such a shame too, I know the picture is very old, but there is apparently not enough info describing the author and the year it was made. I am trying to learn everything about GA reviewing and i saw you passed Qoyllur Rit'i. I wanted to know, is it really ok when so little is sourced from the internet? I know that probably not in this article's case, but everything could be made up and he could have made both those sites. I recently failed a film article mainly because all of it's references camed from the DVD's extras, so i'm asking you, should we sometimes just trust that those books/dvd's actually exist?. The copyedit I agree with, the removal of red links I do not. Due to systemic bias, Wikipedia does not have good coverage on textile topics. I have asked a prominent member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Textile Arts (namely User:PKM) to look them over to see if either the articles exist but the links are slightly off or if they simply don't exist. Regardless, the red links represent articles which should legitimately be created in the future, and which would be helpful to the reader, and thus a deficiency of Wikipedia, not the article itself. I have removed the least likely/deserving to receive their own article, though I believe everything else should stay.

This discussion has also been copied to the article's talk page, where it should continue.

I put this article up for translation, and it was fully translated by someone else. The problem, however, was that it was so coarse and unreadable with terrible flow that I have had to go through it and change practically every sentence so it sounds like normal English. (The original translator thought writing the whole thing in the historical present would be a good idea.) Could you be a second proofreader and give it a copyedit after I've finished? You seem to be much more optimistic as to the fate of the article than I am. I think it's doomed to be a low-end B class unless some serious new research and improvement are put into it, something I'm not too keen on doing. Most of the information on the second revolt is taken from an "alternative information site," and while better than nothing and likely not too horribly biased, obviously we know what angle the authors are coming from. All I think you should bother yourself with is a read-over to make sure that my revamping of the article reads smoothly and is without spelling, grammar or formatting mistakes.

A project I do, however, have my eye on, and I really do think has potential is fr:Voûtement de la Senne. It's well-written, coherent and exhaustive and interesting. Living in Brussels, it was actually quite a shock when I found out about it, as there's no trace or mention of the river today. With the addition of inline citations, has GA written all over it. I plan to translate it in a subpage of my userpage (I'll tell you where) before moving it to the namespace, so I can share it with the world in DYK. OK, so I've created the article at User:Oreo Priest/Voûtement de la Senne, which you should probably write down somewhere. Because it's not in the namespace yet we can be informal with a lot of things, including leaving notes to each other in uncommented form. This does, however, mean we have to be more careful about things like categories and interwiki links, which should stay commented lest bots add links to the unfinished page to other articles.

Oh, and yes, I was hoping you would co-translate it with me. Please do give the canut revolts a brief look-over though to make sure it reads OK, then forget about it. You up for this? -Oreo Priest 10:05, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

In case you were worrying about making things in the article bilingual Dutch/French, don't. When we're done I know a couple of Flemings on WP that I can bring in to weaken the pro-French bias in the article. (Mostly just the monolingual street names.) A tip: when unsure how to translate a term in French, open up the article on the French WP (link is at the top of the article in this case), follow the link, and look in the left bar to see if there is a corresponding English article which translates to that. Exactly. Add them anywhere you think they could be challenged, and go nuts. I would help, but I'm a very poor judge of this sort of thing. Worst case scenario the GA reviewer doesn't like it, so I'd have to take my computer to the library again and add some sources from other books, which should be possible. Good work. I've moved our disputed sentence back, I think we should keep tweaking it in minor ways until it is acceptable to both of us. As for the sewer museum, I have a list of 80 museums in Brussels, and it's not on the list. How did you find out about it? If I want to see the tunnels too, all I have to do is ride the extant premetro.

Just thought i'll let you know that when you add the GA template in the article's discussion, you don't have to put the articles name in topic but in which category it has been listed as a GA. So only one of these should be in "topic": arts, langlit, philrelig, everydaylife, socsci, geography, history, engtech, math, natsci, or miscellaneous. See WP:GAPQ#Categories. Hi. You recently undid a edit by me regarding Air New Zealand and Vancouver International Airport (YVR)

You undid that by saying that they do still fly to Vancouver. I know for a fact that they dont as I am currently looking at travleing to Canada at the end of this year. I went on to the Air New Zealnd site and found that they did conections with United in LAX or SFO.

That was at the end of the year, so it may only be seasonal but can you prove that Air NZ still fly to YVR??

I noticed you left several red links in the section you translated, mostly from translating proper nouns from French into English. I find the best way to translate proper nouns is to open the French article, click on the link, and then go to the English interwiki to see what it is called in English. You can bet your *** I want you to take pictures! Lol. Dude, if you can take a picture of the Song Dynasty's Liaodi Pagoda, the tallest of the pre-modern pagodas in China, that would be incredible, considering that there is a very limited amount of pictures of it available online. But I'm not sure where you are located or where you intend to travel, so it might be completely out of your way. I'll pretty much settle for any pictures that you take. If you visit any Chinese art museums, take tons of pictures. If you come across any historical architecture, take tons of pictures. Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons are so desperately lacking visual media on Chinese architecture, although the wealth of pictures is growing with the help of people such as yourself. If you can provide me list of the places you intend to visit, I'm sure I can provide a multitude of suggestions.

In Beijing, you could take additional photos of:

• Pagoda of Cishou Temple
• Pagoda of Tianning Temple (Beijing) (crappy angle, needs a better image)

For your trip next weekend to Hebei alone, additional pictures could be taken of:

• Zhaozhou Bridge (only one picture available)
• Putuo Zongcheng Temple
• Puning Temple
• Chengling Pagoda
• Hua Pagoda
• Liaodi Pagoda (already mentioned)
• Taihang Mountains
• Pagoda of Bailin Temple (needs a better picture)
• Xumi Pagoda (only one image available)

In Shaanxi:

• Qianling Mausoleum (desperately need more pictures!), although it is 53 miles from Xi'an
• Small Wild Goose Pagoda (needs more and better pics)
• Giant Wild Goose Pagoda
• Terracotta Army (perhaps enough pictures, but that's up to you)

In Shanxi:

• Pagoda of Fogong Temple (only two pictures available)
• Mount Wutai, dude if you could get a picture of the oldest wooden buildings standing in China from the Tang Dynasty, that would be amazing. I'm referring to East Hall of Fuguang Monastery and Nanchan Monastery.

In Henan:

• Qizu Pagoda (has no pictures of it at Wikimedia Commons)
• If you visit Mount Song, you can take a picture of the oldest standing pagoda in China, Songyue Pagoda. The only picture of it that exists on Wikipedia is a stupid stamp, which is not very impressive or imposing looking, unfortunately, and does not do the structure any justice.

Don't know if you'll wind up visiting Shandong, but...:

I don't want to give the impression that I care only about architecture pictures above ground. If you visit anything like Han Dynasty tombs, such as the Lei Cheng Han Tomb, that would be awesome to have pictures of its inner architectural features! Wow! You mean business! I think, despite the time of day, the pictures look absolutely fine. Great job, especially with the close-up view of the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, since no one had bothered to take a picture that close before. A closer view really defines the decorative vertical pillar facades in the brick exterior and the lifting eaves that a viewer would otherwise be unable to distinguish before with other pictures at Commons. I noticed that you've taken pics of the pagoda forest near the Shaolin Temple. Close by is the Fawang Temple. Did you happen to visit there or are planning to visit there? More Tang Dynasty pagodas are located there, including one that is 131 ft tall! Cheers.
