[edit] Your masses of distictions

Could you please send me the WikiCode for the following (Your page is such a mess of labels, that at the moment, I can't figure out, what is what. As it is, I have two: "This user is named after", and "This user is a firm believer in the IPA" - both on my side, but there are labels I would like to add, like the rights of women, children and gays - I'm none of those, but I'd like to lend that tiny kind of assistance.)

By the way, why does a Greek have an intest in Icelandic?

Cheers Io 15:28, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm not Greek, I'm Acadian.--Sonjaaa 02:01, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Accusations of vandarism from Yamla

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to Spore (video game), you will be blocked from editing. --Yamla 17:35, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

This is your last warning. The next time you vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to Spore (video game), you will be blocked from editing. --Yamla 19:28, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Please note, as I have already pointed out, "fiscal 2009" is any time after March, 2008. Your citation makes no claim that Spore may be delayed until calendar 2009. --Yamla 19:32, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

I think you might be misunderstanding the meaning of the English word vandalism. I'm trying to add new sourced information to a page (perhaps in error). Vandalism means intentional malicious destruction. That's something pretty different.--Sonjaaa 19:51, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

It appeared to be original research and uncited, and you kept on doing it. It appeared to be vandalism. But I think now this has been resolved and you understand why no claim has been made about a calendar-2009 release date and why you can't just claim it is vapourware. As such, please feel free to blank the warnings I left you here. --Yamla 19:57, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
How can it be original research and uncited if I included the full URL to the source I was taking it from?--Sonjaaa 01:38, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Starr Beach, Ontario

As one of the editors who tried to identify your Lat-Long position in your Ref Desk question today, I am now curious as to why you needed to know. If it's personal, I am not trying to pry; it was just such an odd, but very specific, request. I hope we found out what you wanted to know. Bielle 03:00, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Replied on the page.--Sonjaaa 16:18, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Eskimo words for snow

Was there any reason other than "political correctness" why you moved Eskimo words for snow to Inuit words for snow? The article discusses all Eskimo languages, not just Inuit. --Taejo|대조 19:04, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Where I live, the term Eskimo is derogatory and very outdated, on par with "negro", etc. I just modernized the language.--Sonjaaa 19:24, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

This unfortunately is not true throughout the entire English-speaking world. This isn't just a Toronto-specific wiki. Please resist the temptation to create a page Edmonton Inuits. BTW, you should have at least read the discussion page before conforming the page to your own personal opinion. KriZe 16:18, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Panty raid, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. Hi Sonjaaa,

The number of very active WikiProject Lepidopterans is small. Most of them are members of other WikiProjects too. The WikiProject is just about an year old. We dont have a single GA article! We dont have a list of butterflies of USA/Canada/North America either, besides many other countries. The most active WikiLepidopterans recently have been Indians concentrating on their Wikilepifauna. We dont have any libraries, universities etc just a few handbooks on Indian butterflies. Cant afford costly books either. Thats why there are large gaps of knowledge and work around this topic. No other reason.

Hi, I saw your deletion of the Simpsons-related trivia on the Bouvier page. Can you explain why you deleted it? [edit] new Toki Pona roots

hi,

what's the other new Toki Pona root, besides pan?

oh, while we're on the subject, did you just forget where lawa, pana, tan came from?

thanks, kwami (talk) 22:22, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

pan is from Chinese for rice. esun is from Akan. I forgot the other ones.--Sonjaaa (talk) 09:55, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks! (Silly me, I thought pan was from Spanish bread.) kwami (talk) 19:44, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
Is esun just market/shop/store, or can it also be a verb buy/sell/barter? Also, do you have the Akan form? The closest I can come is a verb 'to value', but it's not a good match. Thanks, kwami (talk) 18:28, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi again. I've checked out another Akan dictionary, but still can't find anything that resembles esun. Do you remember the Akan form? kwami (talk) 07:07, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Ah, I found edwam 'at market', from edwa 'market'. Could this be it? Thanks, kwami (talk) 07:02, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

I dunno. My source was a taxi driver, and he said something like "edjum" ;) --Sonjaaa (talk) 22:20, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

I bet that's it, then. The full form is e-dwa-mu, where dw is approx. [dʒ], and one person I asked said this does get shortened to something like [edʒum]. (mu is the locative; I don't know what the e is.) kwami (talk) 23:01, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I bet lawa is from Croatian glava 'head', and tan from Georgian დან dan 'from'; as for pana, it's a good match to Swahili pana 'give to each other'. Do you remember if you ever used Swahili? kwami (talk) 23:08, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia! I am glad to see you are interested in discussing a topic. However, as a general rule, talk pages such as Talk:Team Fortress 2 are for discussion related to improving the article, not general discussion about the topic. If you have specific questions about certain topics, consider visiting our reference desk and asking them there instead of on article talk pages. Baby tossing

A tag has been placed on Baby tossing, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.

If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this. JohnCD (talk) 19:05, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Baby tossing

The link you've put on this page to King Henry IV leads to a disambiguation page. Which Henry was it? Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, adding content without citing a reliable source, as you did to Elizabeth Kucinich, is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. This is especially important when dealing with biographies of living people, but applies to all Wikipedia articles. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you are already familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources, please take this opportunity to add your original reference to the article. Thank you. [edit] Speedy deletion of Gamblers (breakdance crew)

A tag has been placed on Gamblers (breakdance crew) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. αѕєηιηє t/c 06:48, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion. Thank you. αѕєηιηє t/c 19:44, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] flags

You're right, it was accidental, but I will do it again, because it seems like you've misunderstood the paragraph. The paragraph [1] you're referring to was added by User:Gnevin about two weeks ago, and was only added after a suggestion on the talk page, which hadn't been discussed and therefore haven't reached consensus.
Anyway; The reason why he is suggesting flags on "Formula 1 drivers" as incorrect use, is because there aren't any National team for Formula 1 drivers. But he is suggesting that flags on "Football players" should be allowed, since they can be a part of a National team."Hockey players" can also be a part of a National team, and can therefore, according to Gnevin, have a flag next to them. lil2mas (talk) 00:14, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Wayne Nelson Corliss

Please do not make personal attacks. Wikipedia has a strict policy against personal attacks. Attack pages and images are not tolerated by Wikipedia and are speedily deleted. [edit] Carefull with articles such as Wayne Nelson Corliss

Care full creating stubs that only contain content that appears to disparage the user. Par WP:ATP and WP:BLP any pages concerning living persons must be properly sourced, and negative claims cannot be the only content in the article. In its current state the above page qualifies as a violation of both rules, which is a rather serious problem. Actually, if you weren't an established editor a very likely reaction would be giving you a level 4im vandalism warning, which would mean that it was a first and only warning before reporting your account to WP:AIAV, altrough in this case the warning could end up being level 3, as there is just a negative statement. Of course this is in no way a threat, but just an indication how serious those two rules are. :)

Happy editing to you, and with kind regards, Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 17:17, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed deletion of Chenpi

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Chenpi, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Plrk (talk) 07:53, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
