Northwest High School, located in Cedar Hill, Missouri, is the third largest high school in the St. Louis area and one of the largest high schools in the state of Missouri, with a student population of 2,363. The high school is part of the Northwest R-1 School District in Jefferson County, Missouri. The current principal is Brad Snell.
Cross Country The Northwest Cross Country program has historically been strong. The entire team has qualified for state 23 times (1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, and 2000). The team has won three state trophies, two individual champions, and had many state medalists, but never a team championship in the state of Missouri. Stan Nelson was the origional coach of the boys cross country team and was instrumental in starting the girls program. He coached the team for 35 years and upon his retirement in 1999 the school's cross country invitational was renamed "The Stan Nelson Invitational." In 2002 Nelson was inducted in the Missouri Track and Cross Coaches Associtaion Hall of Fame. One of Nelson's former runner, Ken Campbell, has been the head coach of the program since Nelson's retirement.
