[edit] Route description
NY 124 begins in the hamlet of Pound Ridge (in the town of the same name). It heads north and crosses into the town of Lewisboro, ending west of the hamlet of South Salem at New York State Route 35. Just before the junction with NY 35, NY 124 splits into a west leg and an east leg, with both legs ending at NY 35. Both legs are signed as NY 124 but the main line officially runs on the west leg. The east leg is Reference Route 983D. Both legs are approximately 0.35 miles in length.
[edit] History
NY 124 used to extend beyond its current termini in both the north and the south.[2] To the north, the original route followed modern NY 35 to NY 121. It then overlapped NY 121 until June Road (Westchester CR 310). From there it followed June Road to the Putnam county line, and Putnam CR 55 (North Salem & Deans Corners Roads) from the county line to its former northern terminus at US 202/NY 22 near Brewster. To the south, NY 124 used to extend by overlapping with NY 137, then followed Westchester Avenue to the Connecticut state line where it continued as Connecticut Route 124 south to US 1 in Darien, Connecticut.
