[edit] Duplicate images uploaded

Thanks for uploading Image:UWE2.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Uwe logo2.jpg. The copy called Image:Uwe logo2.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 23:45, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Gordon Brown

Its not vandalism, its the truth. I shalt revert this. --BenefitSale 09:47, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

BenefitSale, Gordon Brown lost his eye due to a detached retina as a result of an injury whiule playing rugby, when he was an undergraduate - as explained elsewhere in the article. As for the rest, if you can substantiate your claims, then please do, and cite your references within the article. otherwise, they do not properly belong in Wikipedia. Many thanks, Lynbarn 09:52, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi Lynbarn, I know those titles go with the office of Prime Minister but I don't think they are really important and they just clutter the introduction imo. If someone clicks on Prime Minister of the United Kingdom they will see what other titles go with that. Regards Gustav von Humpelschmumpel 00:14, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] sockpuppets of StealBoy and IPs

Hi. Say, I'm wondering if you know something I don't know. When you said you checked all IPs in the range, I'm guessing you don't mean you scanned the whole thing by hand. Is there any way to view the list of IPs which have edited Wikipedia? In any case, if you know any other IP adresses in the problematic ranges that have the same pattern, please let me know and/or add them to the checkuser case. Thanks, Pascal.Tesson 23:05, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

No, sadly, I got so annoyed at his (or her) edits, that I did go through them manually!!! Unfortunately, I didn't make a note of them, but there were only a few (103 was the one in use at the time) and I think you've got most of them. If I find any more, now I know where to postthem! Regards, Lynbarn 23:14, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Ah! well I admire your patience. Actually, I did go through the first 5 or 6 before giving up. It's actually easier to just fish them out of edit histories of pages where that idiot has been most active. In any case, thanks for your help. Pascal.Tesson 23:28, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Gordon Brown

Hi, I just thought that some people who are not familiar with the UK might get confused with the role of the Scottish Parliament and its relation to the UK parliament. Gustav von Humpelschmumpel 23:40, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Gordon Brown

Image...I did not change the image, I merely restored the image that had been removed at 14:42, 2 July 2007 by user:208.222.71.16 thank you Peter morrell 15:29, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Peter, I wasn't insinuating that you had, but over the past week or so, there have been several attempts at loading copyrighted, non-free or unsuitable images (including one of Adolf Hitler!), so I just wanted to point any future editors who may consider making a change to read the earlier discussions. You did the right thing in replacing the image as you did, and thanks for that. Regards, Lynbarn 15:35, 2 July 2007 (UTC) Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Peter_morrell"

Thanks, yes I know it is very tiresome all these changes and so much vandalism; guess like moths they just seek the limelight on a fast-evolving scene...sigh! thanks Peter morrell 16:30, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] John Smeaton (baggage handler)

Hi, you listed this article at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion; articles should not be listed there but rather at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. I have moved the nomination to the correct place; it can now be found at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/John Smeaton (baggage handler). Thanks – Gurch 21:20, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Many thanks, Gurch, I was just trying to move it when everything dissappeared - I did wonder what I'd done to it! Regards, Lynbarn 21:23, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Evolution desktop 1.jpg

Hi, Thank you for uploading Image:Evolution desktop 1.jpg,however it would be much appreciated if you could expand or clarify the sourcing information you have provided in the image summary.., IN particular, is this an image you took?

In addition, if you took the image yourself, it's recommended you upload it to Wikimedia Commons so that other projects can make use of it. ShakespeareFan00 19:34, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:RAF_Kenley.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:RAF_Kenley.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:13, 14 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 23:13, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Resolved - I think my rationale - similar to that used with other station crests - has been acceopted as an adequate explanation. Lynbarn 22:13, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Thanks for noticing the new category I'd created, and tagging some other crests appropriately :) ShakespeareFan00 17:52, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

No problem - it seemed like a good idea! I'll add any other to the category if I find (or upload) them. Regards, Lynbarn 18:10, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:BSicon uexBRŨCKE.svg

Thanks for uploading Image:BSicon uexBRŨCKE.svg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Image:L&Bvan232005.png

I have deleted Image:L&Bvan232005.png since its licensing specified that it could only be used to "further the aims of" some corporate interest. Since we cannot control what our downstream reusers do with our content, such a restriction is not really a viable license. If you have a different license you'd like to use, and you're sure you have the rights to release under that license, I'd be glad to undelete the image to allow you to do that. Wikipedia:Copyrights is an excellent policy page for further reading on this topic. (ESkog)(Talk) 17:07, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

ESkog, Thanks for advising me about this. The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway is not actually a commercial concern, it is a registered charity, and although it does have a commercial arm, it is never going to be commercially viable! I can't remember exactly which image you're talking about, but if you can reinstate it temporarily, I will look into the licensing issues, and see if it can be reclassified. Many thanks, Lynbarn 17:29, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
The image has been restored here: Image:L&Bvan232005.png. (ESkog)(Talk) 16:00, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
this image, along with a few others, have now been released into the public domain by their authors, and the appropriate licence details is now attached. Lynbarn 19:53, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

Thank you for tagging articles such as Santa Claus and the Missing Reindeer, those are not easy to spot as hoaxes! I've deleted them and blocked the vandal. Please keep up the good work :-) -SpuriousQ (talk) 10:34, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

No problem - I guess it's all part of the wikipedia experience! I have a number of this editors favourite targets in my watchlist, and there is a very noticable pattern to his (or her) activities. Regards, Lynbarn 11:06, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
Hi Lynbarn. Can you report to me the StealBoy sockpuppets that you encounter? The definite advantage of blocking them early is that the autoblock might prevent the editing (for 24 hours) of any other socks. And of course if you spot IP sockpuppets, well that's even better! Thanks, Pascal.Tesson 07:57, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
If I see any more, I'll certainlylet you know! Lynbarn 13:12, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Lyn Southern.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Lyn Southern.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:35, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Exmoor & Exmoor Forest

Hi, You have previously edited the Exmoor Forest article and I'd like to ask your thoughts on merging it with Exmoor which is much more substantial & does include something on the history of the royal forest. I don't think the Exmoor Forest adds anything that the Exmoor article doesn't but wanted to canvass opinion before merging them & redirecting the Forest article to the main Exmoor article.— Rod talk 14:39, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Rod, I agree that there is not much in Exmoor Forest - certainly not enough to warrant a full article of its own, so yes, do merge this into a section of the main Exmoor article. An excellent idea. Also, thanks very much for asking - most editors would have just done it! Regards, Lynbarn 14:50, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: User:Lynbarn/Userboxes/User UWE

Re: User talk:Black Falcon#User:Lynbarn/Userboxes/User UWE

Hi! By "looping categorisation" I was referring to situations where a category is a subcategory of itself; this is usually the reuslt of a userbox with a categorisation function (like this one) being transcluded within a category page. What I did was to modify the userbox to categorise only pages in the user namespace. The relevant code is:

{{#ifeq:{{NAMESPACE}}|{{ns:2}}|<includeonly>[[Category:Wikipedians by alma mater: University of the West of England|{{BASEPAGENAME}}]]</includeonly>|}}

The only part that would need to be changed across different userboxes is the title of the category page. Cheers, Black Falcon (Talk) 17:57, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] John Major

You said that it was inappropriate for one contributor to delete the PC from after John Major's name as all Privy Counsellors retain the title for life - whilst this is correct - the contributor was right in saying that only peers use the post denominals 'PC'. This is to distinguish them from other peers, below the rank of Marquess, who are simply styled 'The Rt. Hon.' out of courtesy. The prefix 'Rt Hon' is sufficient for non peers, and technically they should not use the post denominals 'PC'. 86.152.122.95 (talk) 00:09, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
