KAND (branded as Green Radio 1340) is an AM radio station that serves the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and is owned by Yates Communications. This station runs a combined News/Talk and Country music format, and is also the home of Corsicana High School Tigers and Navarro College Bulldogs football games, and the latest news from the Texas State Network News, and ABC News.

[edit] History

KAND began in 1937 as a Variety/Entertainment station on AM frequency 1310, but 10 years later moved to AM 1340 and has maintained its variety format until the 1980s when they made a slow transition to Country music. The original station owner was J.C. West, who also owned the Wolf Brand (canned) Chili plant in Corsicana. West had applied for callsign WOLF, but the Federal Communications Commission wouldn't permit it due to the fact that the WOLF call letters are currently in use on Syracuse, New York's AM and FM stations.

Sometime in March 2008; Yates Communications has announced FCC's approval to buy KAND, and it will use it to create the Nation's first true "Green" or "Hybrid" radio station. According to Yates Communications President David Yates, programming consists of eco-friendly News and Talk programs including longtime radio personality Kevin McCarthy (formerly at KLIF 570 AM) filling the 10:00AM to Noon (central time) slot. Although the 1,000 Watt station doesn't cover the immediate Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, KAND will be streaming online to several North Texas listeners. [1]
