[edit] Background
Jimmy is an 12-year-old genius inventor but his inventions seem to cause more destruction than anything and it is usually up to him to stop them. He lives in fictional Retroville, with his robotic dog, Goddard named after Robert H. Goddard (a pioneer in modern rocketry), his father Hugh, a bumbling car salesman and duck-lover, and his mother, Judy.
Jimmy Neutron sports a disproportionately large head which he needs to house his large brain and his I.Q. of 210. In many episodes, his classmates are angered because he is so intelligent. This brain, a source of constant comment, allows him to invent devices that accomplish even the impossible. They rarely function as intended, however, and most often embroil his friends or the entire town in some crisis. In the moment of crisis, he will urge his brain on, saying, "Think, think, think!" whereupon viewers enter Jimmy's ear and go into his brain to observe its inner workings as well as to relive a scene from the early part of the episode. Jimmy will then shout, "Brain Blast!" and arrive at the solution for whatever danger he has landed himself, his friends, or his town in. But in the 3rd season, he seems to stop Brain Blasting and comes up with ideas right away.
Jimmy's intellect was assumed to not come from his father's side of the family but from his mother, shown in the episode See Jimmy Run and in a few others. But in the episode, Clash of the Cousins where there is a family reunion, he searches for somebody in his family other than himself with the "genius gene", which turns out to be the toddler Eddie, Jimmy's paternal cousin, who becomes one of Jimmy's enemies in 2 other episodes. Jimmy's intellect may come from his mother or because of the rare Neutron family genius gene or a combination of the two.
[edit] Inventions
Jimmy's inventions include Goddard, his mechanical dog with many functions, a time machine, and nanobots. He has several gum and candy-based inventions, which include "Neutronic air gum" that allows humans to breathe under water, gum that allows one to memorize books, and candy that satisfies all the tongue's taste buds. After eating such candy, humans develop a physiological need (addiction) for it.
Jimmy has several inventions to help him with transportation, the most frequently employed being his flying rocket and his hovercar. He also has a game pyramid which allows players to actually go inside their favorite video game, following with a Cloning Machine. In the videogame, he makes several inventions similar to the series. Many times he creates different types of advanced spaceships with spacebuses, spacebikes, being able to use amusement rides to create some, and finishing with his favorite, the hovercar, which he uses almost frequently. He creates these inventions in an extensive lab located under his clubhouse and which remains accessible to him alone by means of DNA scan.
[edit] Appearance
Jimmy has an abnormally large head . Jimmy's wardrobe consists almost exclusively of red t-shirts that sport his trademark symbol of electrons circling a nucleus. He also wears blue jeans and white Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars.
[edit] Personality
Jimmy is shown to be quite irritable around most people, the exception being his friends. He can be friendly at times that he needs or wants to be, but can come off as a smart alec or nerd occasionally. Jimmy's religious beliefs are uncertain. While he celebrates Christmas (as seen in the Christmas special of the series) and other holidays, his scientific interests may point to Agnosticism or Atheism; However, these subjects are rarely touched on the show due to its viewers. Jimmy is quite charming when he least tries to be, such as at the party he throws at his parents' absence in an early episode.
[edit] Relationships with other characters
[edit] Best friends
Carl Wheezer and Sheen Estevez accompany Jimmy on nearly all of his adventures. Carl is obsessed with llamas, also secretly in love with Judy Neutron, and Sheen is obsessed with Ultralord. They need Jimmy and his inventions to quicken their lives. Normally, they play the foils to Jimmy's genius and sometimes solve the episode's crisis with some innocent or insane observation. Other times, they merely cause the trouble.
[edit] Cindy Vortex
Cindy Vortex is Jimmy's long-time intellectual rival, equal, and secret lover. The two enjoy a classic love-hate relationship which originated prior to the beginning of the movie and the series. Cindy was the smartest kid in Retroville until Jimmy arrived. Cindy resents Jimmy's usurpation of her number one spot. This resentment drives her to prove that she can be just as smart if not smarter than Jimmy. She releases this resentment by mercilessly teasing him and his friends, calling him names such as "Nerdtron", "Spewtron", "King Cranium", etc., making fun of him and his friends, pulling pranks on them, and pointing out Jimmy's many and manifest mistakes and shortcomings.
Throughout the course of the series, viewers observe subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) indications that the two do indeed have romantic feelings for each other. Inexplicably, these two harbor an affection for each other despite Cindy's intense competition with Jimmy and Jimmy's frustration with Cindy's conventional instincts and intellect. During seasons two and most notably season three, Cindy comes to terms with her feelings for Jimmy and picks on him and his friends a lot less. She makes several attempts to get his attention. In the episode "King of Mars" we see Jimmy show his strong attraction to Cindy, staring at her often with a dreamy look in his eyes, and trying to distance himself from her by being mean to her. By the end of the episode he confesses that he only pretends to ignore her, and that she distracts him, which is his way of saying that he cares about her. In the episode "Lady Sings the News", Jimmy finally kisses Cindy, much to fans' delight.
[edit] Libby Folfax
Libby is Cindy Vortex's best girl friend in the show. She loves Hip Hop which is seen in a lot of episodes. She is the love interest of Sheen who always tries to get her attention. She doesn't have the same feelings for him. She is also in a lot of the later episodes the ally of Jimmy, Sheen and Carl. She isn't as mean to Jimmy and the guys as Cindy is though both love to tease them every once in a while.
[edit] Enemies
Jimmy encounters some diabolical villains in his show. These include the Yolkians, a race of egg-chicken related aliens, Professor Finbarr Calamitous, an evil genius who can never finish anything, the rich young snob Eustace Strytch, his evil genius cousin Baby Eddie and Beautiful Gorgeous, a 60s secret agent style femme fatale, among others. He also has an evil clone which is stuck in another dimension. The majority of the show's villains exhibit a comical element or have bizarre personality traits.
[edit] Other Classmates
Several other characters have recurring roles on this show. Nick is another classmate, adored by many girls in Jimmy's class for his perceived "coolness." He is often seen sucking on a sucker and wearing a black leather jacket. Bolbi is from Backhairistan, wears an argyle sweater and a tie every day. He speaks broken English. He says odd things, like "Time is the Money." Little known about, Britanny in most episodes seen in, is an ally to Cindy and Libby. Ike Wolvermein, an African American in Jimmy's class, is seen in many episodes taking place in school. He is One of the cool kids in Jimmy's class. In the episode, Vote for Jimmy, His name is mentioned when Sheen blackmails Carl to vote for him.
[edit] Adult Characters
Their teacher, Ms. Fowl, has a long, hook-shaped nose, and often makes a squawking sound in the middle of a word or at the end of a sentence. The school principal, the camp counselor, famous director/producer Corky Shimatzu and the candy store owner/manager are other recurring characters.
[edit] The Nicktoons
Jimmy's inter-dimensional friends include Timmy Turner of The Fairly OddParents, 'Danny Fenton/Phantom of Danny Phantom and SpongeBob SquarePants of SpongeBob SquarePants. Jimmy and Timmy met in The Jimmy Timmy Power Hour. In the The Jimmy Timmy Power Hour 2: When Nerds Collide, and they hated each other due to rivalry over their inexplicable fascination/affection with/for Cindy Vortex. Eventually, they become friends in The Jimmy Timmy Power Hour 3: The Jerkinators and have remained so ever since. Jimmy and Timmy met Danny and SpongeBob in Nicktoons Unite!.
