Jarvis Moss (born August 3, 1984) is an American football player for the Denver Broncos. Moss was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the first round (17th pick) of the 2007 NFL Draft.
He was a defensive end on the Florida Gators football team before declaring for the 2007 NFL Draft following the Gators' victory in the 2007 BCS National Championship Game. Moss is particularly remembered at the University of Florida for blocking two crucial kicks in the fourth quarter of the Gators' victory over South Carolina. The first block stopped a Gamecock PAT to keep South Carolina's lead at 16-10. The second was a block of a would-be game-winning field goal for South Carolina with 8 seconds left on the clock. The second block secured a 17-16 victory for the Gators.
Was named All-America by Pro Football Weekly after the 2006 season.
He attended Billy Ryan High School in Denton, Texas where he was instrumental in helping the Ryan Raiders win their first 4A State title under Head Coach Joey Florence. He played in the 2003 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
After numerous offers from schools such as the University of Texas, Florida State University and the University of Miami, Moss committed to the University of Florida where he majored in Sociology.
During high school he acquired a staph infection which was not found and treated until midway through his collegiate career. Before his treatment he was considered a bust at the collegiate level but since then he has blossomed into the powerful defensive end that everyone thought he was going to be.
The Broncos traded up in the draft with the Jacksonville Jaguars to select Moss 17th overall[1]. The Jaguars used the pick from the Broncos to select Reggie Nelson, a college teammate of Moss.
Moss had a "character flag" on his record stemming from a team suspension during his collegiate career.
[edit] 2007 season
During the 2007 season, Moss played in 6 games for the Denver Broncos. He recorded 12 tackles and 1 sack[2]. Moss broke his shin in practice on November 1, 2007[3], and was placed on injured reserve on November 2, 2007[4], ending his season.
Moss is expected to be fully healed by the 2008 season, and has started running sprints. He'll battle teammates Ebenezer Ekuban and John Engelberger to start at left end in camp.
