Anthony Gonzalez

Anthony Gonzalez (b. September 18, 1984) is an American football player for the Indianapolis Colts of the NFL. He played college football for Ohio State University. Gonzalez was born in Avon Lake, Ohio and graduated from Saint Ignatius High School. Gonzalez was selected with the 32nd pick of the first round in the 2007 NFL draft by the Indianapolis Colts.

Gonzalez attended St. Joseph's grade school in Avon Lake, OH for eight years. He was awarded the Good Joe award which is given to an outstanding student based on their personal and academic performance in the classroom.

Gonzalez excelled on both offense and defense. He led St. Ignatius to the state championship as a junior and earned MVP honors. He caught 71 passes for 1,873 yards and 21 touchdowns in his high school career and set a St. Ignatius single-season record for average yards per catch (27.3) as a senior. Gonzalez earned first team All-Ohio honors as a senior and was named the Co-Offensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press and the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Gonzalez played basketball for St. Ignatius as a freshman and ran track for four years in the relay race. He also enjoys playing golf.

Gonzalez was selected as the final pick of the 1st Round (number 32) by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2007 NFL Draft, becoming the 5th Ohio State WR taken in first round since 1999.

In his NFL debut, the season opener against the New Orleans Saints, Gonzalez was held without a catch and was targeted just once by Peyton Manning. The following week, Gonzalez nearly converted a 3rd down play on a diving catch after the ball was tipped off the hands of Dallas Clark, but replay review clearly showed the ball hitting the ground. Minutes before the end of the first half, Gonzalez brought in the first catch of his NFL career. In the drive that followed, Gonzalez caught two more passes and got the Colts down to the one-yard line. Those two catches for forty-nine yards, proved the difference in a two-point victory over the divisional rival Tennessee Titans. During a game against the undefeated New England Patriots he suffered a thumb injury which put him on th1e injured list for two games. His first game back was a Thanksgiving matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, where his 6 catches for 105 yards led the team. Against the Baltimore Ravens, he scored his first NFL touchdown. Gonzalez caught six passes for a team-high 134 yards and two touchdowns in the 44-20 victory. Gonzalez finished his rookie regular season with 37 catches for 576 yards and 3 scores. Gonzalez also scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter in the Colt's first playoff game against the Chargers.
