Billy Ryan High School is a secondary school located in east Denton, Texas. It is the second high school of the Denton Independent School District. The original building for the school was built in 1991 and was followed with an expansions in 1994 and 2006 that added technology and fine arts programs.
The current principal of the school is Vernon Reeves. The Associate Principal is Kristi Strickland. Assistant Principals are Carl Long, Fernando Natividad, Angela Ricks, and Francisca Ryan.[2]
The school mascot is a Raider and the school colors are red, blue and white. Its crossdistrict rival is Denton High School and the two schools compete annually in various events but most notably, the annual football game named "Battle of The Volt". The Raiders play at the C. H. Collins Athletic Complex, which includes an artificial turf field, and hosts Denton ISD's three comprehensive high schools as well as the five middle schools. The school also contains a new black box theater, separate choir, band and orchestra halls, three gymnasiums, a library, lecture hall, and commons area used as a cafeteria and to host school events. The majority of Strickland Middle School, Navo Middle School, and a partial amount of students from Crownover Middle School students feed into Ryan High School.

The Billy Ryan High School cross country is a very successful team. They are led by their fierce warrior of a coach Michael Pulattie.

The current head coach of the football program at Ryan is Joey Florence. Under his guidance, Ryan won state championships in 2001 and 2002 and played in four straight title games from 2000-2003.
Ryan currently has two Freshmen teams (Red and Blue), two Junior Varsity teams (Red and Blue), and one Varsity team.
The football team year annually competes in a rivalry football match against district rival, Denton High School called "The Battle of the Volt" in what in arguably[dubious ] considered one of the best high school rivalries in North Texas. Although in the past where these matches usually had playoff stipulations on the line, recently they are now simply about bragging rights for the fact that Ryan has remained ranked higher while Denton High has dropped in rankings. Ryan currently has a seven year winning streak in the grudge match.[citation needed]
Ryan high has been nationally televised twice. Once on ESPN 2 and Fox Sports Network, both times the Raider's opponient were the Southlake Carroll High School Dragons.

The Ryan High Softball team is coached by Aimee Foutch. She joined the program as assistant coach for the 2003 season, leaving her position as an assistant coach with Sanger High School where, in 2001, she lead Sanger to the 3A state title. Foutch took over as head coach of Ryan High Softball program in 2004. After several dismal seasons, the Lady Raiders turned around in the 2007 season to become district champions and made an appearance at the state title game the same season. Both titles were firsts for the team. The Lady Raiders softball team plays at Tina Minke Field located on the Ryan High campus.

[edit] Ryan I-Tech
Ryan I-Tech is a project competitive student organization that competes at the regional and state level as a chapter of the North Texas Technology Student Association (NTTSA) and Texas TSA respectively.
Ryan I-Tech is the one of the most successful chapters in Texas TSA history since the club began in 1991 when the Billy Ryan High School opened as Denton High School—Ryan Campus. They hold record for most consecutive high point average state titles (6), most 4A high point average titles (8) and total high point average titles (12).
Student members develop skills necessary for success in the real world of professional careers such as architecture, engineering and photography . Students compete by entering projects including but not limited to architectural model buildings, photographs and technical drawings using traditional pencil and paper and/or Computer Aided Design AutoCAD software. During monthly club meetings, members are introduced to speakers from industrial professions to expose them to real world professionals. Alumni of Ryan I-Tech are scattered across the Industrial Technology field holding jobs ranging from architects to Boeing engineers.
