The Howard 100 News program was first broadcast on Sirius Satellite Radio on October 19, 2005. Radio personality Howard Stern asked Sirius to create the program to fill the dead-air on his Howard 100 channel prior to his scheduled launch in January, 2006. To manage the news, Howard hired news director Liz Aiello, a former executive producer from WABC with over 20 years of experience. The first show, an hour at 6:00pm, featured an interview with Jackie Martling, a former Stern show staffer.
Howard 100 News (motto: 'No More Bullshit') was designed to mimic the sound of all-news radio station 1010 WINS in New York City. Professional journalists were hired to report stories related to Stern, his show regulars including The Wack Pack, and Stern's move to Sirius. Perhaps a narcissistic version of The Onion's Radio News, the humor and appeal of the program partially lies in hearing real reporters give serious treatment to lightweight and sometimes off-color topics.
When the Howard 100 channel launched the Howard 100 News expanded to two timeslots. One at 12:00pm and the second at 6:00pm. Later the Howard 100 News was re-launched with a new format. Instead of an hour show twice a day they would provide five minute updates every hour.
Yellow blazers are the uniforms of the reporters; background noise of a TeleType - a comedic homage to a bygone era - is the uniform of the broadcasts.

[edit] Former Reporters and Staff
During June 2006, at least four employees of the Howard 100 News were "let go". Stern said that this was because it needed downsizing and, despite the loss, the news is still “very important to the channels”. "Original" Newsteam member and longtime Sirius employee Phil Iazzetta (Lance Rodman) was hired by National Lampoon Radio in 2007 as the Vice President of Programming. "The Phil Show" can now be heard on NATIONAL LAMPOON RADIO - XM 154 - NOON - 6pm PST - Monday thru Friday. News director Liz Aiello left Howard 100 News to become the vice president and general manager of Martha Stewart Living Radio.[5]
Penny Crone and George Flowers left Howard 100 News in January 2007 due to budget cuts.[6]

[edit] Bumpers
Bumpers were used when the news had an hour timeslot at 12:00pm and 6:00pm. All bumpers were presented as perfectly serious and legitimate news show bumpers. Also, on every show, reporter Steve Langford comes into the studio to discuss "some of the stories we're working on" (usually between 9:45 and 10:15 AM, before Jon Hein gives a preview of The Wrap Up Show and Robin Quivers begins the news); during which the jingle "Steve Langford has a huge penis" (created by Richard Christy) is played.
- "Howard 100 News... Fair and balanced about Howard." (clear parody of FOX News "Fair and Balanced")
- "More Americans get their Howard news from Howard 100 than from any other Howard news source." (clear parody of ABC Television's ratings celebration, "More Americans get their news from ABC News than from any other news source")
- "Howard 100 News... No More Bullshit."
- "Howard 100 News... Give us 60 seconds, we'll give you a minute."
- "Howard 100 News... We know where you live."
- "Howard 100 News... What else are you going to listen to?"
- "Howard 100 News... If you don't want it reported, don't let it happen."
- "Howard 100 News... A rape occurs every 60 seconds in the US; got a minute?"
- "Howard 100 News... If it's news to you, it's news to us."
- "Howard 100 News... If your mother tells you she loves you, check your sources."
- "Howard 100 News... Now Jews really do run the media."
