[edit] RE:Favour

Hello! I hope you are feeling fine. As for your request, I will be leaving a few comments in a few days time. Let me analyse your edits first. --Siva1979Talk to me 21:05, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hey!

Hii...

Just dropped in to say How ya doin? Hows life? and Whats Up?

I am in Kuwait right now. I came here for a "vacation" of sorts (in the 50 degree centigrade temparatures) before I start my college at home. I came here more than a month ago and I still dont know when I'll be going home (its not that I like this place. C'mon, who likes a place where its 50 degrees and the locals tell you that the summer hasn't started yet!). Anyways, my band hasn't been doing much lately (Me, the bassist, is in another country and we haven't heard from our singer for sometime now. We might at filing a missing person's report soon). And I got my first electric guitar over here!! (Yeah, I know, but I still play the bass in the band) Why an electric guitar? you ask... Well its just for personal satisfaction. I am having all the fun that a person can, on his own, with his parents around (which, I might add, is very little for a growing kid like me ;-) Anyways, I thought I'd utilize this time to drop a note to all my friends on wikipedia while learning the advantages and disadvantages of a dial-up internet access (somehow I haven't found any andvantages yet, except for the fact that its cheap). And I saw that I am on your list of WikiFriends / Wikipedians I Respect / Cool Wikipedians and I am honoured to be on it! I guess I've said a lot now. Time now to play my guitar and wake up my parents! Woo Hoo!! (Yeah, I am really that bored right now) Catch ya later! Take Care and dont let the edit bugs bite! \m/peace\m/ Jayant,17 Years, Indiacontribs 21:56, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject

Yes, you may leave a WikiProject anytime you like. And, as long as you still meet the requirements, you're allowed to rejoin whenever you want. Cheers! :-) — The King of Kings 23:47 July 02 '06

[edit] Happy 4th of July to you too

Thanks Evan, hope yours was fun-filled too. — The King of Kings 06:48 July 05 '06

[edit] Chemical sources

Hi Evan,

I am currently compiling a full list for that at Wikipedia:Chemical sources. The list is still quite a mess, but getting there, I hope. All pages about chemicals will get a link to that page, for now in the 'External links' section (I use the template {{ChemicalSources}} for that). --Dirk Beetstra T C 08:21, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dear Evan

Dear Evan, after browsing your contributions and edits, I'm reviewed you as requested. If I can be of further assistence to you, please don't hesitate to ask. Cheers! :) Phædriel tell me - 16:25, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to VandalProof!

Thank you for your interest in VandalProof, Evan Robidoux! You have now been added to the list of authorized users, so if you haven't already, simply download and install VandalProof from our main page. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or any other moderator, or you can post a message on the discussion page. Prodego talk 13:25, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Sure, I would be happy to help. First you need to download this file, unzip it, and run the setup file inside. Let me know when you have done this, and I will explain the next step. Prodego talk 18:09, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
OK, you should have run the setup file inside the zip as well, do that now if you haven't already. After you do that download this file, and rename it to VandalProof.exe. After that, VandalProof is all set up, just click the .exe file to run it. Prodego talk 12:41, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
Alright, can you describe when you get this error? Right after you log in? Prodego talk 11:57, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Ok, I am on semi-break, so you should probably contact Eagle 101 about the problem, and show him this discussion. Sorry for the inconvenience, Prodego talk 15:47, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Let's see if this helps you...

Oh, well, dear Evan, that's quite an unusual request; I can't decide for you where to contribute :( A suggestion: you must have, of course, certain areas of interest and expertise; a good way to find out needed and missing articles that fall within those areas is to check the lists at Requested articles. Another good way is to examine the current Wikipedia:List of WikiProjects and pick one or two that suit your preferences, and join it/them. Most likely you'll find lots of possibilities to focus your efforts with the guidance of those within said projects who may share your personal interests. And of course, aways keep searching and searching everything you can think of; WP is like a big ocean, where many beautiful fish to admire are constantly swimming (and many ugly fish to beautify too! :) Please, visit me anytime you wish; I hope these modest advices are useful to you. Big hugs, Phædriel tell me - 02:58, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you for your support!

Good evening, Evan Robidoux. Thank you for your support at my Request for Adminship, which succeeded with a final tally of (67/0/0)! Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have suggestions or requests - either of an admin nature or otherwise! :)

[edit] re:Slightly dissappointed with myself...

Don't feel disappointed, no matter how many edits you make, your still going to be a vital member. :) But to answer your questions..

  1. How do you choose which articles you want to edit?
Find something your confortable with. I fond of wrestling so I find many articles on the topic alone that need improving. Try joining a project around that subject if there is one like join it like I did with the pro wrestling project, although I quit the project for other reasons. Find something your knowledgeable about, anything at all!
  2. Where can I find good references to use to expand articles?
Completly up to you. As lonf as it meets Wikipedia's policy WP:V it should be fine. Google-ing a subject is completly fine. As long as you don't copy-and-paste from a websoite you can make additions any way you can.
  3. Do you have a particular "editing style?"
Not really, but be WP:BOLD and don't be afraid to make edits. Speak what you believe, but try to present a WP:NPOV as much as possible and make sure it's verifiable.
  4. And lastly, a totally unrelated question: Are you a member of Esperanza? I have been considering joining for a while and I would like to know what Esperanza does.
I was for about 6(?) months, but I left like I did the wrestling project for other reasons. Esperanza is basically a community of editors who try and make Wikipedia a more stress-less place. They do many things like monitor stressful situations and when things go wrong (like an editor trying to leave Wikipedia) they try to encourage them to come back. Other things they do vary like awards for user pages and other random reasons just to promote a good enviornment.

Also, can I suggest you get more involved in process like RFA votes and AFD/TFD/CFD votes? Voting can get you more notablilty in your decision making process and get you more noticed as an editor :) Reverting vandalism on "Recent changes patrol" can help you boost the count quickly. Hope this helps and I hope your not considering leaving Wikipedia or anything like that. The reason I have so many edits is because I have the time to make them. I'm not sure of your real-life scheduale, but it has to be more time consuming than mine. No matter how many edits you have you'll always be vital here. Cheers! — The King of Kings 05:03 July 18 '06

Oh, thanks for the barnstar. I hope your successful in your edits. :) (*chuckle* just a minute ago I was looking at your page and I remembered the heading I created for you, glad you didn't forget :D) — The King of Kings 05:36 July 18 '06

[edit] We need to talk about Kevin

Replying to this

Apologies, book humour. ;) Sorry about the long delay in replying, I've been...busy. The things you mentioned were POV, or utter nonsense actually, but the stub seems stable now. I don't know the policy on name articles but maybe you should look at Alice, it seems to be a dab page. If you need help in turning it into a Disambiguation page, I'd ask Natalya (talk · contribs), she's very helpful with other editors and is a great editor on Dab pages. Cheers, 13:47, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Hey there, I took a look at the page Kevin, and it seems like there should be a disambiguation page, located at Kevin (disambiguation). I'm about to create it. For now, it's probably fine to leave the article about the name at Kevin. -- Natalya 18:57, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

[edit] September Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. The proposals page has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  2. Since the program in development Appretiaion week is getting lots of good ideas, it now has its own subpage.
  3. The September 2006 Council elections will open for nominations on 18 September 2006. The voting will run from 25 September 2006 until 30 September 2006. If you wish to be a candidate or a member of the elections staff, please list yourself!
  4. The new Esperanza front page design has but put up - many thanks to all who worked on it!
  5. TangoTango has written a script for a bot that will list new members of Esperanza, which will help those who welcome new Esperanzains greatly!

[edit] November Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
The last AC meeting (full log)

  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.
