[edit] Character
Devon is the adopted son of Neil (Kristoff St. John) and Drucilla Winters (Victoria Rowell), and the adopted brother of Lily (Christel Khalil).
Devon entered the Y&R canvas as a juvenile delinquent, sentenced to community service at the Genoa City Rec Center, where he met and befriended Lily. Lily helped a hardened Devon come out of his shell and Lily's mother, Dru, who was once in Devon's position herself, took him under her wing, even asking Devon to move in with them for a short time. In this time, Dru became very emotionally attached to Devon and tried to convince her husband, Neil, that they should take him in permanently as a foster child. Neil was at first against the idea, but eventually decided to take Devon in.
Neil also helped Devon's drug-addicted mother, Yolanda (Chene Lawson), to reform. She has since become addicted again (off-screen).
The show has hinted at Devon having a crush on Lily, and to a lesser extent, Lily's close friend Sierra Hoffman (Asia Ray Smith) having a crush on Devon.
Recently Devon was stricken with meningitis, almost losing his life. Although he has recovered, the damage inflicted by the disease resulted in total hearing loss. The situation brought his family closer than ever before, and they all quickly became proficient in various methods of communicating with the deaf. Subsequently, Devon regained a significant portion of his hearing after receiving a cochlear implant.
Devon and the rest of the Winters confronted Carmen Mesta (Marisa Ramirez) regarding her behavior towards their family, including her advances towards Neil, and the institution of a restraining order - the violaiton of which threatened to send Drucilla to prison. After she obstinantely refused to drop the charges against Drucilla - and concurrently found herself on the bad side of several executives at NVP and Newman Enterprises - Carmen was found murdered outside of Neil's new jazz club Indigo. After forensic evidence pointed to Devon, he was arrested for murder. He was exonerated when later events pointed to Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart) as the killer, but the true culprit was revealed to be Kevin's girlfriend, Jana Hawkes (Emily O'Brien).
The Winters family continues to show Devon -- now over the age of eighteen -- their love and support. Having completed the required legal procedures, Neil and Drucilla have adopted Devon, making the adult man their legal son.
On April 5, 2007, during an NVP photo shoot, Dru and Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) fell off a cliff and into the cold waters. While Sharon narrowly survived, Dru is presumed dead, and a memorial service was held for her on April 13.
