[edit] Purple drank

Which is the best title for the article? Prescription cough syrup should redirect to Cough medicine, so we can't use that. How is Purple drank? -- Samir धर्म 22:16, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Personally, I'd agree that "Purple drank" is a better title for the article, but I'd also submit that it lacks notability -- certainly its article lacks credible sources. --Mhking 22:18, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
Sources needed yes. I see too much of this stuff in my practice. I'll check what Pubmed has on it -- Samir धर्म 22:24, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
I think Purple Stuff is the best, personally..let's talk on the talk:Purple drank page to figure it out.

[edit] NATO page

I removed the {{protected}} template, because that template is only supposed to be used in conjunction with the page being protected. Protecting the page is only something an administrator can do or it can be requested at Requests for page protection. If there is vandalism, simply reverting it is usually enough. If there is continued vandalism to the page, one can consider requesting administrators to block users or protect the page. If you don't unerstand or have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. Khatru2 05:50, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Album covers

Hi Cole. Album covers are used as images under fair use criteria. Wikipedia can only use them to depict the album (i.e. in the article about the album) or, rarely, about the artist. See WP:FUC. Thanks -- Samir धर्म 02:06, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

No probs. BTW, here's a shout out to put I Want You (She's So Heavy) on your Beatles list. Great tune! -- Samir धर्म 02:13, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Og Mandino

Matthew McConaughey on Og Mandino is indeed an error.

The sentence, "His works, based on fundamental Christian beliefs, were also heavily influenced by the likes of Napoleon Hill, Matthew Mcconaughey[1], W. Clement Stone, and Emmett Fox." is incorrect in that Matthew McConaughey himself was influenced by Og Mandino's works, not the other way around. Og Mandino (1923-1996) was certainly not influenced by the Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey.

As referenced in your external link: http://www.austinchronicle.com/issues/vol15/issue1/film.mcconaughey.html,

"And then, underneath a stack of magazines, he saw a paperback: The Greatest Salesman in the World, a bestselling How-to-Discover-Your-Own-Potential book by inspirationalist Og Mandino." - this refers to McConaughey being influenced by the book 'The Greatest Salesman in the World', written by Mandino.

I have taken the liberty of re-correcting the article.

[edit] bobby

No worries, I think the subsection is fine.

It's just that based on reviews I've read on IMDB and the ads for it, it seems like it's more about the people who happen to be there than the assassination itself (although apparently that is shown near the end of the film). Kind of like how Forrest Gump happened to be at all these important events he witnessed- the film's not about those events, it's about Gump. Cheers --DarthBinky 05:53, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding removal of information on the Z-Ro article.

I'm using WP:RS , specifically the following part:

Exceptional claims require exceptional evidence Certain red flags should prompt editors to examine the sources for a given claim.

  • Surprising or apparently important claims that are not widely known.
  • Surprising or apparently important reports of recent events not covered by reputable news media.
  • Reports of a statement by someone that seems out of character, embarrassing, controversial, or against an interest they had previously defended.
  • Claims not supported or claims that are contradicted by the prevailing view in the relevant academic community. Be particularly careful when proponents say there is a conspiracy to silence them.

Exceptional claims should be supported by multiple credible and verifiable sources, especially with regard to historical events or politically-charged issues.

The website link you reference has no sources for the claim that Kofi Annan said this about Z-Ro. Furthermore, the person who wrote the article, Eb Haynes, is ... who? Finally, I can find NO other sites or sources or newspapers or interviews that back up this assertion. I did find a LOT of websites mocking this claim, however. I have removed the information, again, until you can find a clear source independant of a single, unverified comment on a website. Otherwise, I could write a review pointing out your boy recycles shit from PM Dawn (and how street is that? not!) and that he's appearantly your boy is back in jail. Again.

Ahem. --ElaragirlTalk|Count 14:19, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Decades

Hi there. Looking through Wikipedia I see you are interested in things that happen in different decades, especially from your user page. Could I ask you to be on the lookout for some things while you are doing your rounds? Could you ensure that on decades there isn't an apostrophe at the end of them (for example 1920's should be 1920s) as they are plurals, not possessives and there are no letters being left out. If you could it would be a great help as this is an extremely common mistake that will take a long long time to clear up on Wikipedia. Other than that keep up the good work. Ben W Bell talk 08:40, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Contactor

I have noticed that you have listed yourself as a contactor on the abuse reports page, and I was wondering if you could contact the responsible party I have listed in my report for the abuse. The email address is listed Here. Thank you! Wikipedian27 17:33, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List of computer-animated films

Cnota, I would be much obliged if you could address my concerns on the talk page of the abovementioned article. I'm sorry to say this, but I see no point to your recent edits and would like to hear the rationale behind them - they seem, in my opinion, to be somewhat redundant because the same information can be gotten by simply sorting the tables by studio or by year.

Moreover, they make the page much larger than it should be and a lot more tedious to edit. Esn 00:06, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm just not sure what the point would be - you can already get a list of films by date of release by clicking on the little box at the "release date" column (see that little square, made up of a white and black triangle?). You can then look at the years and visually see roughly how many films were made in each year. Granted, there's no big heading to separate the years, but I think that this is a small price to pay for having a list that is so compact and easy to keep up-to-date (in contrast to the old version of the article, which was very tedious to edit and often had discrepancies between different sections because of that).
If you want to make it easier to tell at a glance where 2001 ends and 2002 starts, we could do what I did at the list of stop-motion films - have a blue wikilink on the year of the earliest release, so that it's immediately clear by looking at it. Do you think that would be a good idea?
I suppose a new article could be created, but I think it might be seen by many as being redundant; the only thing it would offer that the current article doesn't is a way to list all the films within a certain year alphabetically. I think you should ask editors on the talk page whether there's support for such an idea - I'm not the only one who edits that page... Esn 19:44, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] TMNT & Meet the Robinsons

Boxofficemojo has the same release dates. Please see here and here. Note March 22 for TMNT for a number of countries, and March 23 for Meet the Robinsons for the UK. Esn 04:57, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

I must also give you a warning, Cnota, that you would do well to acquaint yourself with the policy of WP:BIAS. If you continue making disruptive edits like this one, you may find yourself being accused of vandalism and, if worst comes to worst, barred from editing. Esn 05:24, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Do not move or remove content from my talk page. The Template discussion was automatically moved to my archives by a bot because they hadn't been touched in awhile. I am not sure why you removed the content about Wolfer. Please be careful. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 23:19, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Falloutboypress.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Falloutboypress.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShadowHalo 07:13, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:John c reilly with cole and bobby coleandbobby.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:John c reilly with cole and bobby coleandbobby.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 09:07, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

That tag asks for an administrator's intervention. I am an administrator, and I deem that the cropping of a picture you took and placed into the public domain is a more than reasonable derivitive of your work, that you had _placed into the public domain_, and therefore have no rights over. I'm sorry if you disagree with my assessment, but please be more careful with the license you chose next time. Thank you, Mysekurity 18:20, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. An article you recently created, Project Rocket, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for new articles, so it will shortly be removed (if it hasn't been already). Please use the sandbox for any tests you may want to do and please read our introduction page to learn more about contributing. Thank you. Haemo 00:23, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Umm...

I have been a Wikipedian for a year. I created an article for a band linked to Fall Out Boy. Don't patronize me and tell me to use the sandbox though. I'm not saying I'm the most active user ever but I've made over 600 edits... Cnota 00:33, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Haha, that's a standard template - it's not meant to be patronizing, and I apologize if I gave you that impression. The problem, I reckon, is that your article doesn't tell us anything about the band, beyond that they had an EP - it also doesn't assert notability, which is a second, but also critical problem. --Haemo 00:38, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
No problem! Looks good now - I just removed the tags. --Haemo 00:55, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Allamericanbycole.jpg

In this image you specify "I own this image. It may not be used for any other reason or altered in any way." This is not compatiabel with wikipedia. If this is your image, you must release it under the GFDL or into the public domain. If you are unwilling to do this, I will kindly delete the image for you. Thanks! -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 19:21, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

They may be cropped, if you dont want that to happen, do not put it on this project. You are welcome to relicense the image with {{GFDL}} if you choose to release it under the gfdl or {{PD-self}}. [edit] "what a joke"

Is there a problem? --LaraLoveT/C 05:47, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

My apologies. I didn't mean to ignore you. When you left your message, I didn't really have time to check your edits. When I got around to checking my watchlist and reviewing edits of Fall Out Boy yesterday, your message wasn't on my mind. Regardless, leaving the message I did on the article talk page is appropriate considering all of the incorrect changes could have been made-and could be made in the future-by anyone. Many are common mistakes, and it's good to have that there for others to see, so that it will hopefully prevent such edits in the future. Past all that, my best recommendation for discussing edits is to do it before the edits are made rather than after. It causes a lot more work to do it the opposite... for all parties involved.
Regards, LaraLoveT/C 06:14, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
PS. Oh, also. As far as ShadowHalo is concerned, images are not my specialty. I specialize in GA reviews, he in images. So he's my go-to guy anytime I have a question about the appropriateness of image fair use rationales. It didn't matter to me who uploaded the image. I just wanted to know if it was appropriate. Unfortunately, it wasn't. But it would have been great if it was... many more articles could benefit from such a fair use rationale... if only it were allowed in Wikipedia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by LaraLove (talkcontribs) 06:17, 16 May 2007 (UTC).

I noticed that you posted a new pic of Mr. Reilly, and a great one, too. Thank you. I understand that we butted heads over the old one, but I wasn't trying to piss you off. I understand that the crop job I did on that old pic aggravated you, so now that it's been replaced I'm going to nominate it for deletion based on its orphan status, unless you object. [edit] Notability of Austin Film Critics Association

A tag has been placed on Austin Film Critics Association, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Calton | Talk 16:36, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Non-free use disputed for Image:Projectrocketcd.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Projectrocketcd.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:31, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Space Chimps

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Space Chimps, by 71.114.247.240, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Space Chimps fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

No 3rd party non-blog/self-edited WP-approved references have been provided to indicate that this film deserves to have a WP page created for it at this point. WP:NOT a crystal ball, WP:NOT a fan site, etc. Once this film is officially announced, we can create a page for this film.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Space Chimps, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Space Chimps itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 13:03, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
