Carsten Ramelow [ˈkaʁstn̩ ˈʁamɛloː] (born March 20, 1974 in Berlin) is a German international football player who last played for German Bundesliga's Bayer Leverkusen, as a central defender/defensive midfielder.
After growing as a player at Hertha Berlin, Ramelow signed for Leverkusen in 1995, playing a major part in the clubs domestic and continental exploits, before retiring due to persistent injuries in March 2008.
In 1998 Ramelow first appeared for the German national team, and went on to win 46 caps. He was on his country's roster at Euro 2000, and then played at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He retired from the national team just before Euro 2004.
He was involved in a famous incident with AS Roma's Francesco Totti at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, while playing a UEFA Champions League game. Totti jumped on a sliding Ramelow landing on his shoulder and back.
