[edit] NPOV Concern
Hello. Sorry to disturb you, I'm a new contributor to Wikipedia here and noticed you seemed to be a relatively experienced Canadian user. I was wondering if you could take a look at these articles:
Economic impact of immigration to Canada
These are both written by the user deetdeet, and have largely been left alone, but draw sharply from a right-wing viewpoint, primarily drawing upon and re-iterating studies by the Fraser and C.D. Howe Institute. They may also violate the NOR and NPOV policies. I have nothing personally against either right or left-wing points of view, but feel perhaps these articles would benefit from sets of eyes on the other side of the spectrum to achieve more balance. You may know some! Thank you.Mft1 (talk) 13:24, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] No content in Category:CBC Radio 3 programs
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:CBC Radio 3 programs, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:CBC Radio 3 programs has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:CBC Radio 3 programs, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. [edit] Template:AB-FedRep
I disagree with your rationale for removing this. Don't undo good work just people people from other provinces haven't shown the same initiative. Kevlar67 (talk) 20:12, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
- 1. I don't get it. If these templates already exist for all provinces, why did you put all the effort into removing them from the Alberta MPs pages instead of adding them to the pages of MPs from other provinces?
- 2. It's not that I am unconcerned about other provinces, however, I only have so much time and effort to devote to WP and I draw the line at going through all 301 MPs and 199-odd Senators and adding a template to them. I did however add it to all Alberta MPs and Senators in the hope that this would spur other editors to follow suit for other regions. By taking the template off the Alberta pages you have undone that.
- 3. It has nothing to do with "ownership", I'm sorry if you read it that way. I just don't have the interest in expanding my workload to every single MP and Senator in Parliament. That being said, you are absolutely wrong to say it's my "responsibility" to do any work on here. It's a volunteer thing and I do only as much as I want and that's all. I hope that someone does work on Peter and Alexa, but do say it's my responsibility is presumptuous.
- How about a compromise? If I inform the necessary provincial wikiprojects (and the Canadian politics project) that they should work on the other 9 provinces and 3 territories can I put the AB ones back up? Kevlar67 (talk) 16:01, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] WP:OUTCOMES
Thanks for your comments on the AfDs I've set up. My reading of WP:OUTCOMES has always been - and having re-read still is - that you need something extra, i.e. you must be the first woman, black, gay councillor elected or have had substantial national coverage because of your position. The only one I think there might be some doubt about is Margot James, and I don't think she was the first lesbian K&C councillor (and I've not found evidence one way or another). BlinkingBlimey (talk) 18:04, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
- Further to this I think WP:OUTCOMES needs some tidying and doesn't accurately reflect the precedents. I've started a discussion on the talk page and would appreciate your comments. Thanks BlinkingBlimey (talk) 11:15, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] {{Stub Category}}
The category parameter of {{tl|Stub Category} is supposed to be the corresponding permanent category, not another stub category. When there is not a corresponding permanent category, standard practice is to either make category be the parent category of what would be permanent category if it existed or to simply omit the category parameter altogether. I reverted your changes to the continental level radio station stub categories, but if you think simply omitting the category parameter would be preferable, I have no strong feelings there.Caerwine Caer’s whines 18:37, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Canadian Broadcasting Corporation radio programs -> CBC Radio One programs
Hello there:
I see you have gone and made changes to a number of Canadian radio show articles all at one go, doing category changes from "Canadian Broadcasting Corporation radio programs" to "CBC Radio One programs". In many cases this is fine, but the blanket change you seem to have done simply doesn't apply to all programs—specifically, to those programs that were broadcast prior to the introduction of the CBC Radio One network in 1997. While this may apply to some of the shows you have re-categorized (like The Irrelevant Show or Mr. Interesting's Guide to the Continental United States), this clearly does not apply to shows whose run ended prior to 1997, like Johnny Chase: Secret Agent of Space (1978 to 1981) or The Happy Gang (1937 to 1959!)
I don't know if there are categories for "CBC Radio" and "CBC Stereo" for shows prior to 1997, but perhaps there should be. (Keep in mind also that some shows were broadcast on both networks, such as Gilmour's Albums for example).
Cheers! Captmondo (talk) 20:55, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Brentwood Bay, British Columbia
An edit summary would've saved some confusion when you removed the category "Communities within district municipalities..." from Brentwood Bay. Just a quick "category about to be deleted" would've saved a couple of unnecessary edits, as from the point of view of someone coming to the article (rather than the CfD) there was no apparent reason for the category to be removed from it. [edit] {{Africa-road-stub}}
Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 00:41, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Cica.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:Cica.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 04:33, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] West Ferris
Hi, West Ferris is a former municipality, and as far as I can tell, that makes it inherently notable and therefore deserves an article on Wikipedia. I have no problem redirecting short stubs to their parent municipalities, but this is ridiculous. -- Earl Andrew - talk 20:58, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
- It does deserve a good article. I'm not sure why it doesn't. All of Ottawa's former townships have articles, and the smallest ones are about as big as West Ferris. -- Earl Andrew - talk 22:32, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure it was that bad of an article, but I can certainly add some more information on it. -- Earl Andrew - talk 22:36, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
- I think small community articles should remain so that they can be expanded. Murillo, Ontario doesn't have an article anymore, and the information that was removed when you created the redirect is hidden in its history. I don't see you creating those one or two articles listing all of the communities, you're just turning an entire article into a redirect without any prior discussion. You could at least merge the main points in that article into the article it's being redirected to. West Ferris and Murillo were both more than "This hole in the wall sucks ass. I has a gas station and graffiti." vıdıoman (talk • contribs) 22:51, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Southofwawa.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:26, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Category:Settlements in Canada by province or territory
I'm not sure that it's the correct name for the category. A settlement in Canada has a defined meaning. For example Detah, Beaver Creek and Bathurst Inlet are all settlements but Cambridge Bay is not. I would have thought that Category:Communities in Canada by province or territory would be the more correct term. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 06:32, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
- I see what you mean. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 06:39, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
- Why does it need the word "Indian". Both Cambridge Bay and Ulukhaktok were legally settlements before they became hamlets in 1984 but neither has an Indian population. Enterprise is a settlement in the NWT with a minority aboriginal population. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 06:50, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] NL communities
Hi Bearcat; It's great to see others, such as myself, trying hard to organize the many varied communities in the province. I noticed the category Ghost Towns for some of the communities. Would it be possible to devise a set of categories that could better explain the status and circumstances of the many communities that exist and once existed in the province? These are only suggestions but it may shed some light on the reasons for the categories. Some communities were abandoned, others were resettled, and still others amalgamated with neighbouring much larger communities. Others were just summer fishing stations that were frequented in summer and dormant in winter. Then there are incorporated municipalities and un-incorporated municipalities. What do you think of suggestion to create categories to reflect some or all of those categories? --HJKeats (talk) 17:02, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I agree its much easier to start from an orderly listing. Not sure about Round Harbour, as with many bays around the coast a lot of them had similar place names, I hesitate to guess how many Salmon Cove's there are. Maybe you could ask the originator of the article Wayne Ray! I guess my biggest pet-peeve with the communities is the list, I'm going to take a copy offline and work out an acceptable listing. Do you know if you can have more than one alphabetical TOC on the same page? --HJKeats (talk) 20:38, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Parker's Notch
The name of the article appears to be original reasearch. On the other hand the article might be useful as part of the NWT or Nunavut history articles or under a different name. I think the original creator may have been scared off though after the deletion of Parker's notch as nonsense. Using Google Earth with the boarders on and going to 65°26'6.47"N 110°31'51.91"W gives a possible notch. Then I looked at the last line of the deleted article above and checked out Victoria Island (Canada) and found there are two possible claimants for the notch. I assume that John Havelock Parker is the person referred to in this case. The book is valid but is not availabe at Google books. I've left a message at User talk:YK Times#Parker's Notch to see if he knows anything and I'll stick a copy in my sandbox just in case, along with a note for the creator. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 23:04, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
- I've never heard of this either, but it nonetheless seems to be fairly believable. I'll check around with some people and see if they've heard anything about it. -YK Timestalk 00:10, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks folks. I agree it looks too believable to delete outright. I starting to get a little concerned about the amount of articles deleted as nonsense when they are not patent nonsense. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 00:31, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
- That makes sense if it's the southern one of the three. The two on Victoria Island would have probably come out of the earlier Inuvialuit land claims anyway. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 00:42, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

I wanted to thank you for your feedback today and assistance with the content that I have added. I am new to Wikipedia and just getting the hang of it. I do have one issue. Someone deleted my content under QINIQ. I had the content in excellent shape and regretfully had reworked a lot of it without saving a back up. The person that removed it said something about me needing to getting permissions and warned of copyright bots. I find it incredible that after all this work and following the instructions and complying with everything you asked me to do that someone else would just go in and delete without any warning or opportunity to comply. [edit] American Musical Groups
Hi there. I notice you have been recategorising bands under Category:American musical groups. This is actually only meant to be a parent category, and should not be used to specifically categorise bands. I recently spent a huge amount of time emptying this category by finding more specific categories for the 5000+ articles listed there. So if you could use a more specific category than American musical groups, that would be great. Cheers Nouse4aname (talk) 09:00, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Lilies-dvd.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. I would appricate a quick look at it, I don't want to get this article deleted. I was just trying to add some updated and additional info.--Sbkbg (talk) 03:56, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
- he got some general advice from other editors about the tags and was warned not to remove them on his own. He has a clear COI which he has already stated. He is trying to claim that an article written by the Boweling Green University press is enough to satisfy notability and other issues with the article. I have repeatedly pointed out to him that sources need to be independent of the subject The Boweling Green University Press is not a reliable source for information regarding The Boweling Green University radio station. I have pointed this out to him several times and he keeps escalating the argument. The simple fact is that since he has a COI he should not be removing tags from the article. Ridernyc (talk) 04:04, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
- I've also given many more sources then most of the college radio stations on Wikipedia. The information I've contributed has had no issues with COI, here's the 3 things I've added to the page- 1) link, 2) souces, 3) The station has numerous shows during the day and also carries BGSU and local high school sporting events. and; The station is primarily used for students wishing to persue jobs in the radio and communications industry to gain first hand knowlege and experience on operations of a radio station and shows. All I wanted to do is provide accurate data to enchance the wikipedia article. I have kept bias out of the article as you will see. --Sbkbg (talk) 06:12, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
- And no mater how many people point out that your sources fail to satisfy policy you keep telling them they are wrong. Three sources are not independent and one source is a wikipedia article. You also keep ignoring the fact that you work for the Radio Station therefore you should let someone else deiced if notability is met. Two other editors have pointed out the issues with sourcing in the articles AFD, and two other editors have pointed out that you should not be removing tags. You just refuse to listen to others. I read you post for merge and actually wasn't even looking for it but I found some more info. Although the sation is not licenced by the FCC it is affiliated with the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System here's a link[2] Also I think there was a bad piece of info on the page WFAL I don't believe the radio station is micro power, that would make it pirate and commercial radio stations aren't pirate. it could have been considered micrpower when it first started in a dorm before the university made it a real station, but that term wasn't formed until the 1990s. --Sbkbg (talk) 07:16, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Alberta candidates
Hey Bearcat - sorry, it had somehow escaped my notice that we consolidate candidates by party/election in provincial elections the same way as we do in federal elections. There are also deleted candidate articles at the following locations, if you care; if not, I'll try to merge them in as appropriate later: Deron Bilous, Travis Chase, Beth Gignac, Christina Gray, Tianna Melnyk, Patricia L. Robinson, Tim Stock-Bateman. On another note, how do we deal with candidates who have run in multiple elections? Do we include them in only the most recent one, or do we copy/paste content from article to article? Sarcasticidealist (talk) 22:32, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
- ...although obviously under GFDL we can't do that if the article has already been created.
- We could if we included a link back to the original page in the edit summary, per WP:MERGE, no? Sarcasticidealist (talk) 22:40, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
Bearcat, will you be having bios for all 82 candidates for Liberal Party candidates, 2008 Alberta provincial election? Will you just be mentioning the names of the others lacking content (from the former stand-alone bio)? Or will you make them all this long. Multiplied by 82, that's going to get big. In the future, consider starting a conversation before moving so much content around. Also, why is the merge to the province/party/election level instead of to the riding/election level? There's only 7 candidates for Calgary Buffalo in 2008, which is much more manageable than 82, if you're going to include full bios for everybody. Parties vary massively in how many candidates they have (e.g. 1 to 83) but ridings generally have less of a range, allowing a consistent approach. --Rob (talk) 01:53, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Kent Hehr
Bearcat, when you wish to delete something that doesn't meet a speedy criterion, go to AFD, don't abuse your admin powers to do a speedy. Just because you have the power, doesn't meen you're free to use it to do whatever you wish. The fact my request to get history undeleted, caused the newer content to also be deleted, is appalling. Also, biographical information doesn't really belong in "list of candidate" articles. If somebody runs in multiple elections, do we just copy the same pre-election content to each and every list. That's rediculous, and unencyclopedic. --Rob (talk) 22:43, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
- You ignore the fact, that there's an arguement for retention, that goes beyond being a candidate. You still haven't justified the absurdity of including multiple bios in a single massive list article. What's odd, is you seem to support having a biography in the encyclopedia, but you just don't want it on a separate page, where it actually makes sense. You instead want to toss it in a composite article, and then re-copy it to other composite articles, if he runs again. Being paralyzed is significant in a bio article (if it's covered independently), but is rather irrelevant in an article about an election. --Rob (talk) 22:50, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] THE GUINNASS
Hello, Bearcat. I would like to ask why you felt that the article THE GUINNASS didn't assert notability. If I recall the article correctly, it did indeed contain references to several accomplishments that could be considered to confer notability. I would like to ask you to please undelete the article, even if only so that we can have an AfD discussion instead of speedy deleting it. Powers T 15:12, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] cat sort
I noticed in Amanda Billings (which I worked on previously) you changed the cat sort, here. Can I suggest, when you put a cat sort, you include the last name *plus* the first name (in case others have the same first name). Also, it's best to use the newer "DEFAULTSORT", as opposed to the older approach. It will ensure proper sorting for categories included in tags (e.g. stub tags). Thanks. --Rob (talk) 19:55, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] CKMA-FM
Another editor has added the {{prod}}
template to the article CKMA-FM, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}}
template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. BJBot (talk) 21:01, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for the help with my article
Thanks for the quick revisions and for adding useful links. I'm completely new to the whole wikipedia scene and having someone so quickly help contribute to my first article is more appreciated than you know can imagine. If you have any advice on how I can further increase the effectiveness of my writing, I'm all ears. There are numerous other articles I plan on writing, but would rather make sure I get this one right first.
Either way, many thanks! And here's to the proliferation of information!

[edit] Wahnapitae
- moved from User_talk:CJLippert to here
The name of the First Nation is Wahnapitae, but the name of the the piece of land that constitutes their reserve is still Wanapitei. As you know, the geographic and political names of a First Nation don't have to be identical, and often aren't. I think probably the best resolution to this would be to move the article to Wahnapitae First Nation, however. Bearcat (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 22:18, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- Not according to Indian and Northern Affairs Canada and Natural Resources Canada. It is Wahnapitae FN, Wahnapitae 11 IR, but Lake Wanapitei. But you correct about FN, IR and Settlement/Village potentially all having slightly different spelling variations from each other... and in some extreme cases, all three being totally different from each other. [edit] Userboxes vs. Succession boxes
This seems like something you'd know: for officeholders, who have succession details in their infoboxes, is it appropriate to include both an infobox and a succession box, or is one considered preferable? Or does it depend on the position (from what I can gather, cabinet positions seem to be more frequently indicated using succession boxes)? Sarcasticidealist (talk) 03:06, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Image source problem with Image:Chilly Beach.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Chilly Beach.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:16, 6 March 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rossrs (talk) 12:16, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Hoax articles on radio stations
Hi Bearcat, thank you very much for bringing this to my attention regarding the hoax articles on radio stations. If I happen to see any suspicious articles on radio stations whatever, i'll try my best to let you know. I'm pretty sure that User:Nathan Williams won't be doing it again...hopefully.
[edit] Media of Toronto
Note that I had reformatted the listing of Toronto and Other radio stations in the Media of Toronto article. I had relocated the Print section to below the TV and radio stations section. Please let me know if I had made any mistakes. I'am aware that CJKX-FM has a repeater in Toronto at 95.9 FM, the same frequency of the Ajax station. When I was in the Toronto area on my way for a two week vacation in Cuba in January, I stayed at the Marriott Hotel near the Toronto airport. I had brought my cd/radio walkman and I noticed that I couldn't receive that 95.9 FM and the 103.9 LGBT signals in my hotel room, just mostly the high-powered stations. For CIDC 103.5 Orangville, their signal was very poor. I noticed the 1280 CFBN signal is silent and note that I marked it as defunct. One other thing, I was checking out the CHIM-FM radio station site and on their main page under "Tune into Canada's Good News Network", they provide a listing of transmitters with locations.[4] I had notice 101.7 FM Toronto is listed there and I couldn't hear anything that signal either. Do you have any idea if there's anything broadcasting at 101.7 FM in Toronto area at present time? it's pretty close to CFNY's signal at 102.1 FM. I don't want to list that CHIM station on any articles yet, because I don't want you to think that this one is listed a hoax. Once again, thanks for bringing my attention regarding the hoax radio articles. Thank you, take care.

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Logo persona.gif
Thank you for uploading Image:Logo persona.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 13:39, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] deletion nominee
[edit] Notability of David Wellington (director)
A tag has been placed on David Wellington (director) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. LukeTheSpook (talk) 01:49, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Cobden ANI
I understand your point about grouping villages into municipal entities but I think those villages should have their own WP existence. Keep in mind that each of those towns has a potential WP contributor who may be motivated to contact the local historian.
I'm not sure if you live in Ontario, I did until 14 months ago - the municipal consolidation that the Harris government kicked off in the '90's is a real sore point. I'm going to specifically not try to search City of the Kawarthas or Victoria County.
The disruption of socio-econo-geographic entities in that period was paralleled only in the regionalisation in the '70's - and maybe the Responsible Government stuff in the (18)30's. I really think we're better off addressing the actual places rather than (or as well as) the administrative groupings. How say you? Franamax (talk) 08:11, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think we crossed over in post timing, but seriously, can we get this off the admin page? Somewhere we can invite anyone who actually gives a darn about this? Subpage of WPP:Canada, whatever... Franamax (talk) 09:13, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Foxtrap
Hi Bearcat,
I need to apologize to you. I just recreated a redirect page that you deleted. I had forgotten that I had created the redirect page before, so when I saw that the page had been deleted, I assumed that someone else had created a page by that name that was gibberish and you had deleted it because of that, so I created it as a redirect that I felt was appropriate. Now that I realize that I was the one who had created the page in the first place, I understand that I should have started a discussion with you about it before recreating the page.
This being said, I do feel that the Foxtrap redirect should exist. If it has multiple meanings, then it should be extended into a disambiguation page, not deleted. If you disagree, I would love to have the conversation with you. Also, if you wish to delete any pages that I create in the future, please let me know so that I can be a part of the decision.
Thank you,

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Chilly Beach.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Chilly Beach.jpg.
Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:21, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Espanola High School needs both references and notability issues addressed, else merged into school district of the area. - WikiProject_Canada has notability issues very high Any help in this regards are much appreciated.SriMesh | talk 01:29, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hello there, I noticed some of your changes at Notability listings, starting with Friends of Fiddler's Green (thanks). I also removed my first notability tag....on the Stony Lake (Manitoba) article of which I noted...the outcome of geographical features on this page. I am thinking Holy Trinity Catholic High School (Simcoe) notability tag should also be removed due to arguments also presented at the education section and Wikipedia:Notability (schools) Kind Regards SriMesh | talk 22:52, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- Me again. Added some third party sources, info box and references about Espanola High School being in the news, so removed its notability and references tags.SriMesh | talk 00:13, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Radio Templates
sounds fair to me, my friend. I understand that RLQFM and RLQAM mirror the FCC at large, but they do offer rather detailed maps of signal coverage. that's why i thought they were significant in importance. :) RingtailedFox • Talk • Contribs 10:33, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] VF6783?
Again, I apologize for creating fake radio stations in the past, but that frequency is real, its used for a drive in theatre in Sussex, NB, I guess its just not licensed, but I guess those atricles don't need to be created. [edit] Neighbourhoods
Thanks for your comment over at the Blossom Park article. I found the discussion annoying and disheartening, so stepped away for a couple of days -- it's helpful to see other comments suggesting that Earl's position isn't all that logical. He also reverted a number of article moves, without the decency of even bothering to comment on the talk page -- he doesn't appear to care what the guideline says, and seems to be making up rules as he goes (e.g. one page move he reverted on the basis that it's a "suburban community" - this is after he edited the article a few days earlier to remove all references to the word neighbourhood). If you have the time, and frankly the inclination, your thoughts on his moves of Fallowfield, Ontario, Barrhaven, Ontario, Bells Corners, Ontario, Ficko, Ontario, Blackburn Hamlet, Ontario, Kempark, Ontario, Gloucester Glen, Ontario, Honey Gables, Ontario and Cedardale, Ottawa, Ontario (this last one is esp. annoying, since he seems to have reverted it back to an unusual form of disambiguation out of spite). - Yeah, I agree. I've been trying to avoid edit warring with him, and engaging him in a discussion is pointless because it devolves into a ridiculous debate over maps and other nonsense (as in the Blossom Park article). I will post a request for comment on the notice board -- any other suggestions? Skeezix1000 (talk) 15:38, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- Done (WP:CANTALK#Requested moves - Ottawa neighbourhoods. Skeezix1000 (talk) 23:16, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Black Canadians
The work you are doing on Black Canadians is much appreciated, but please could you consider using the edit summary? It makes it easier to track the changes that are made. Thanks. BrainyBabe (talk) 21:27, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Black Loyalists
Thanks for offering to look into the Black Loyalists. Frankly I have neither the energy nor the resources to challenge that editor directly. I appreciate your contributions. BrainyBabe (talk) 19:33, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Belinda and other Space cadets
I would guess that the BStronach who left a message for our friend is pulling his leg.
I'm thinking about the candidates question you raised and will get back to you. I think the real question is how does CJCurrie feel about it since he has done most of the work on those articles.
I am proposing to change the name of the SPACE article to be consistent with Wikipedia Style. I have explained at Talk:SPACE_(TV_channel)#Article_name_.28again.29. Please let me know if you have any concerns. Thanks. Ground Zero | t 19:04, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] REC Broadcast Query
Hi Bearcat, I would like to thank you very much for sending me this link the other day regarding the REC Broadcast Query for AM/FM and TV. It really helps me out if I can't find a specific callsign, etc. I noticed that long defunct radio stations (both AM and FM) are even listed in the query, including radio stations that aren't even yet given approval such as CFRM-FM-1 SUdbury, Ontario. As for AM entries, I did notice two new ones for Espanola, just west of Sudbury and I have no ideas of what these two AM frequencies 1240 and 1400 are going to be used for, however, the 1240 AM frequency was formerly used by the CBC Radio One network up until the early 1990's and for 1400 I believe this one was also formerly used by the CBC in Spanish, Ontario. 990 AM was formerly used by the CBC french network in Espanola, Ontario up until the early 90's, however, 990 AM isn't listed in the query for Espanola. So for now on, I can check out the query pages for information on radio and tv stations, where I can add the information on wikipedia. I noticed a radio station listed in the List of radio stations in British Columbia called "Treefrog Radio" at 89.1 FM in Denman Island without the offical callsign. I'm very uncertian if this station actually exists and I can't find any information about this station. I suspect yet another hoax? I hope all this hoax radio articles will stop! I see User Nathan Williams has been given countless warnings about creating hoax articles just recently, I hope this stops for good but he could start up again any day, any week, month or even like six months later...let's hope not! Thanks again for the REC Broadcast Query link, I really enjoy it! take care now :-) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.96.122.159 (talk) 21:29, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
