Ballasalla (Manx: Balley Sallagh) is a village on the Isle of Man, close to the town of Castletown. It was built mostly from the ruins of the nearby Rushen Abbey, a Cistercian abbey founded in the 12th century and dissolved in the 16th.
Ballasalla railway station on the Isle of Man Steam Railway is located to the eastern side of the village whilst the A5 Douglas to Port Erin road runs through the village. The Isle of Man Airport is located nearby to the south in the area of Ronaldsway.
Each summer a Celtic beer festival is held in the village, with Celtic music and dancing.
Ballasalla is in the Parish of Malew. The local authority is Malew Parish Commissioners. There are currently 5 commissioners; B Pilling (chaiman), Mrs B Crellin (vice chairman, Mr G Taggart and Mrs B Brereton. The day to day actives of the authority are run by the clerk, Mr Barry Powell.
Ballasalla has a very active residents association known as Ballasalla and District Residents Association (BADRA) which has for 21 years looked after the concerns of residents and has been involved in many battles with the Isle of Man Government. Ballasalla derives its name from the Manx Balley Sallagh (which has a similar pronunciation) meaning 'place of the willows'.
