জোসেফ স্টালিন (ডিসেম্বর ১৮, ১৮৭৮ – মার্চ ৫, ১৯৫৩) (রুশ: Иосиф Сталин; জর্জীয়: იოსებ სტალინი) একজন রুশ কমিউনিস্ট রাজনীতিবিদ, এবং ১৯২২ থেকে ১৯৫৩ পর্যন্ত সোভিয়েত ইউনিয়নের কেন্দ্রীয় কমিটির কমিউনিস্ট দলের সাধারণ সচিব ছিলেন।
সোভিয়েত ইউনিয়নের ইতিহাসের এই সময়ে স্টালিনের নেতৃত্বে প্রচলিত রাজনৈতিক মতবাদ "স্টালিনবাদ" নামে পরিচিত। শুরুতে কেন্দ্রীয় কমিটির অন্যতম সচিব হিসাবে স্টালিনের ক্ষমতা সীমিত ছিলো। ধীরে ধীরে স্টালিন ক্ষমতা কেন্দ্রীভূত করে নেন, এবং পার্টির নেতা হিসেবে সোভিয়েত ইউনিয়নের শাসনক্ষমতা কুক্ষীগত করেন।
স্টালিন সোভিয়েত ইউনিয়নে কেন্দ্রীয় অর্থনীতি ব্যবস্থার প্রচলন করেন। তদানিন্তন সোভিয়েত ইউনিয়নের প্রায় সবটুকুই অর্থনৈতিকভাবে অনগ্রসর ছিলো। স্টালিনের দ্রুত শিল্পায়ন ও কৃষিকার্যের কেন্দ্রীকরণের মাধ্যমে পুরো দেশটি অল্প সময়ের মধ্যে শিল্পোন্নত দেশে পরিণত হয়। কিন্তু একই সময়ে অর্থনৈতিক উত্থানপতনের দরুণ কোটি কোটি মানুষ দুর্ভিক্ষে মারা যায়। ১৯৩০ এর দশকে স্টালিন নিজের ক্ষমতা শক্ত করার জন্য নিপীড়ন শুরু করেন, যার ফলে কমিউনিস্ট পার্টির শত্রু সন্দেহে কোটি কোটি মানুষকে হত্যা করা হয়, অথবা সাইবেরিয়া ও কেন্দ্রীয় এশিয়ার নির্যাতনকেন্দ্রে নির্বাসিত করা হয়। রাশিয়ার অনেক জাতিগোষ্ঠীকে তাদের বসতবাড়ি থেকে উৎখাত করে অন্যত্র সরিয়ে দেয়া হয়।
স্টালিনের শাসনকালে সোভিয়েত ইউনিয়ন ২য় বিশ্বযুদ্ধে অংশ নেয়, এবং নাজি জার্মানীর পরাজয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ন ভূমিকা রাখে। স্টালিনের নেতৃত্বে সোভিয়েত ইউনিয়ন ২য় বিশ্বযুদ্ধ-পরবর্তী বিশ্বের দুই পরাশক্তির একটিতে পরিণত হয়, যা ৪০ বছর পরে সোভিয়েত ইউনিয়নের পতনের পূর্বপর্যন্ত অব্যাহত থাকে।
