If there is anything you wonder about regarding Wikipedia or this notice board, don't hesitate to ask on the talk page. Also, major structural changes to the notice board should be discussed at the talk page first. Note that this page is modelled on other similar pages; see the Swedish Wikipedians' notice board for tips on use and formats; and it runs alongside many other notice boards (see sidebar below).

[edit] New stuff

Please note that none of our subpages make any claim to being remotely comprehensive: they are not, because it would be far too time-consuming and we are not aware of any method to automatically capture new Scotland-related material as it is created. But they can be used as a resource by interested editors, so you may want to visit them and click the Watch tab.

[edit] Wikimeet!

A few of us are planning a wikimeet in Edinburgh and would love to invite everyone along :-)
Currently, the meetup is planned for Saturday, 7th June starting at around 1pm.
We have a planning and suggestions page located here as well as a space to sign up as an attendee/possible atendee.
Venue is currently set at the Standing Order, George Stree. Please see the page for more details.

[edit] Maps

'Geology of Scotland' would be a big help. There are two old images at Soton Uni that could conceivably be pasted together and another one here, but the copyright issues are not clear to me, and they would be of historic interest rather than modern science. I also have jpg used in a Bartholomew's atlas dated 1963, but probably much older. Any help or advice gratefully received. Ben MacDui (Talk) 11:43, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Locations

I would like some images for location articles I've created

[edit] Buildings

  • Headquarters of the Royal Bank of Scotland in St Andrew Sqaure; the RBS offices in Gogarburn; head office of the Clydesdale Bank in Glasgow; a bank branch of the RBS. Astrotrain 17:23, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Requests for expansion

[edit] Very short articles

The following articles are very short, three sentences or less. Some of them can be considered substubs. Some of them have recently been created from the list of requests above, others have been around longer. All would benefit from being expanded.

[edit] Other articles

  • Scottish inventions - Created to avoid clogging up main Scotland article. Needs filling out.
  • Scottish place names in other countries - very basic list
  • Banchory - Very limited information in this article - needs expansion of history, current status etc. Seajay 20:44, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Niall Iain McDonald - I've started a stub, and set up redirects from the other versions of his name. Am inquiring about licensing for photo, and have suggested other possible sources on talk page. - Kathryn NicDhàna 23:30, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Lewis - While the article has been significantly expanded recently, it is still needing a bit more in certain areas (these are clearly indicated)MRM 06:23, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Requests for Article attention/review/comment/cleanup

  • Alasdair Allan - has been prodded as Notability not been established. There is quite a lot missing from the article (eg. he was SNP's National Secretary, and was actually entitled to become an MSP upon Margaret Ewing's death). Should be easy enough to cite and expand. --Mais oui! 14:25, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Alasdair MacMhaighstir Alasdair - a slightly scrappy article which ( if i remember rightly) i basically translated into English from a Gaelic source. Hopefully if i have time over Christmas period il give it a proper tidy and expand/bring it up to a decent standard but itd be great if some others could have a quick look at it and fix anything they think needs fixing. siarach 15:30, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Scottish Reformation article has been started. Because I also live in the real world this article will take a long time. But I'd like any feedback anyone would care to give on the article so far. Slackbuie 21:25, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Dùn Èistean - i dont think it needs any real clean up as such, im just hoping some others will have a look at it and improve it in anyway they think is necessary. siarach 11:03, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Scotland - I think the article looks good and could be a great candidate for a Featured Article, but it needs major work on the references, copy editing and a maybe a slight paring down of the History section. I've added three or four refs today. I'd like to get this ready for a Peer Review by the end of the month as a first step to FAC. Any comments or help will be appreciated.--WilliamThweatt 04:12, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Gaelic Traditionalism - an article of a dubious nature (google topic and ~900 hits with the article and mirrors of it appearing as the most prominent) which is misleading in giving the impression that this pagan movement has any links to existing Gaelic culture/community within Scotland or Ireland.
  • I have proposed a page move to rename this article. Anyone interested in commenting, please go to the article's talk page and weigh in. Thanks.--WilliamThweatt 22:28, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Page was moved yesterday to Clannada na Gadelica. Still needs cleaned up for propoganda and POV.--WilliamThweatt 04:00, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Barnett Formula - seems a bit POVish in some areas to me, but am not sure how to go about tackling it. Article seems to conflate several areas that don't seem strictly relevant. Would appreciate it if someone could take a bit of a look? Globaltraveller 20:50, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
  • Battle of Harlaw - Has been rewritten as of 1/6/06 but could do with a bit of a review and read through. siarach 15:43, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
  • Isle of Skye - history and culture
  • Beith
  • James Chalmers
  • Talk:William Reid
  • Bank of Scotland
  • Scottish Episcopal Church - request for comment, expanded history, and a modest clean-up. Was the church formerly officially called the Episcopal Church of Scotland? If so, when did the name-change occur?--Mais oui! 06:48, 22 October 2005 (UTC) Underway
  • Torphichen Preceptory - still has Cleanup notice
  • Transport in Scotland
  • Create redirects for all Scottish football clubs, like this: Keith_FC (without dots) which redirects into Keith F.C. (with the dots) --MacRusgail 15:26, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
  • Guys, anyone fancy helping out in purging WP/WC of the redundant saltires? I started this a few weeks back when replaced the main versions with two SVG versions: Image:Flag of Scotland.svg and Image:Flag of Scotland (traditional).svg. I've mopped up almost all of the images that were used previously, such that on en.wikipedia we're down to just the two new ones. However wikimedia commons has: Image:Scotland flag 300.png (usage) and Image:Flag of Scotland Pantone300.png (usage) - these are used a fair bit on the other language wikipedia sites. I'm going to work my way through them, but if anyone fancies lending a hand then great.
Would you beleive this has also lead to me replacing the Flag of Tenerife too!
    Thanks/wangi 16:41, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
  • Billy Kay - just put up a short article on the author and Scots language expert/activist which could do with expanding i think.
  • University of Strathclyde needs some fact checking
  • Tillicoultry - There is still work to be done, esp wrt sources etc, but reviews/comments welcomed
  • Atlantic Ocean - This is a request for your opinion on place names (before I post RfC). The problem arises following attempts by a Wikipedia user to seek out references to "England", "Scotland" and "Wales" and replace them with "United Kingdom". One example of this can be seen at Atlantic Ocean where User:Owain recently made changes including changing text from "Aberdeen, Scotland" to "Aberdeen, United Kingdom"; from "Liverpool, England" to "Liverpool, United Kingdom"; and from "Newport, Wales" to "Newport, United Kingdom" etc. I believe that:(1) the edit was non-sensical, totally unnecessary and politically-motivated; (2) the edit made the article imprecise in not giving sufficient detail to pinpoint a place by omitting the obvious (i.e. the country), and gave less information than the original edit; (3) to deliberately ignore the country is to disrespect the people, culture and traditions of those nations;(4) there have been a large number of edits to this page by many other Wikepedians, all of whom saw no problem with the identification of the country. Can we please have some Scottish views on the convention to be used when referring to British place names? -- Maelor  15:38, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Royal Consorts of Scotland - Lots of work. Good concept. A table of consorts of the monarchs of Scotland. Big problem is that it includes Henry VIII as a monarch of Scotland. Everything after Mary is English. I don't have the know-how to fix it. Image:Icons-flag-gb-sct.png Canæn Image:Icons-flag-gb-sct.png 05:21, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Inverness There seems to be some confusion as to just what Inverness is; yes it's a city, probably, but it's also 3 different administrative regions, from different time periods, and information is spread in between their respective articles. They all need clarification as to what each article should cover. The Inverness article itself does not have some very important data that all city articles should have. It has other superfluous data . It needs to be organized! Image:Icons-flag-gb-sct.png Canæn Image:Icons-flag-gb-sct.png 06:07, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Scotland-related articles carrying a Cleanup tag

It now has 14 references, and whilst not all of them are either properly cited or easily verifiable, this is still 14 more than numerous articles I come across. I will remove the {verify} tag in a little while unless the are views to the contrary. Ben MacDui (Talk) 14:48, 7 April 2007 (UTC) Done.
  • Piper Alpha - in such bad condition that I have had to nominate it at WP:AID. On an aside, if you could support the article there, it would be much apreciated!

[edit] "since November 2005"

[edit] Other Requests

  • Do we have a template/userbox for contributors to the Gàidhlig Wikipedia? (Like this one for Gaeilge: Template:User wikiga). If not, let's make one. (Here's the page of all the language boxes.) And btw, the Gàidhlig Wiki could sure use some help. I'm still too much of a beginner to do more than minor edits, but I know some of you could make substantial contributions. - Kathryn NicDhàna 18:41, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Lord Hume of Berwick

Please could an admin urgently look at the arguments going on with this page. One editor is attempting to push an untested claim to this barony on behalf of a family which is clearly POV. Admin User:BrownHairedGirl has previously looked at it, but that is all and is now away. She suggests another admin (see too her Talk Page). David Lauder 08:41, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Scotland-related stub markers (templates)

Consider tagging short Scotland-related articles, with a designated stub tag. For general Scotland stubs, write this {{Scotland-stub}} at the bottom of the article. (All such articles are listed in Cat:Scotland stubs)

In addition, external links to webpages that are only in the Scottish Gaelic language, can be marked by a template called template:gd icon, inserted by typing {{gd icon}} in front of the link (displaying this image (Scottish Gaelic)).

External links to webpages that are only in the Scots language, can be marked by a template called template:sco icon, inserted by typing {{sco icon}} in front of the link (displaying this image (Scots)).

[edit] Scottish geography stubs

We now have a full set of 32 stub markers, for each council area. The first 5 have their own cateoryies already. The others will get sorted into the main Category:Scotland geography stubs until they reach a reasonable threshold (about 50-60 articles):

[edit] Language discussions

Please post links to discussions which regard translation, definitions, usage, etymology, pronounciation etc of elements of our three languages, and the indigenous dialects of English. (Please provide the relevant discussion page link, with a brief description: please do not engage in the discussion itself on this notice board page.)
