Jal (Urdu and Persian: جل) is a Pakistani Pop band founded by Goher Mumtaz.
The original band members were Atif Aslam and Goher Mumtaz, but later Atif was replaced by Farhan Saeed and Aamir Sheraz plays the bass guitar. The band is among the first of contemporary Pakistani bands that fuse Urdu vocals with modern Pop.

The band's web site states that the word Jal is of Persian origin.[1]

Jal's sound primarily falls in the rock/pop genre.Playing along the lines of Latin-Acoustic Guitars, the main emphasis of their music is on the melodies and the lyrical content. Attempting at keeping their songs melodious and catchy at the same time, the band believes that music is truly the world's universal language capable of bringing our hearts and souls together. Owing to its universal appeal, Jal's lyrics are a subtle manifestation of emotions expressed in an energetic and harmonious manner. Fueled by the desire to freshen up the pop genre in Pakistan these qualities give Jal's music a very high degree of accessibility both in terms of composition and lyrics in Pakistan. But the controversy surrounding some songs remain questions yet to be answered. The new album Boondh (a drop of water) was delayed a couple of times before finally being released. This second album has total number of twelve tracks. Five tracks of this album were leaked out on internet before it's original releasing. Sajni is the latest video from their new album. "Boondh" was previously known as "Payal" (anklet).

Apart from the three full time band members, Jal's live act includes Salman Albert (eP) on Drums and Sultan Raja (Call) on Rhythm guitars.

There was a lot of controversy about the release of Jal's first album Aadat,and Atif's first album Jal Pari,as both the albums had almost all the same tracks,songs like Woh Lamhey,Dil Harey were renamed to bheegi yaadien,and ankhon se respectively on Jal's album,as Atif Aslam was a part of Jal when they released their first single Aadat,both albums had the exact same song with the same name,both Jal and Atif Aslam claimed the shared songs to be originally theirs.But it is still not clearly known that who has the actual rights to the songs,as both Jal's new album Boondh,and Atif Aslam's new album Meri Kahani,are drastically different from their first albums. Recently a controversial video was posted on youtube,in which allegedly Jal is drunk and is calling Atif Aslam a "loser",but as no one (Jal or Atif) have commented on the video,it remains to be seen if this is actually Jal,or just a fake attack on Jal's popularity.Nevertheless,this video has resulted in a great decline in Jal's popularity.

- Goher Mumtaz has been signed by the Gibson Guitar company in the U.S.A. as a brand ambassador for their company.
- Jal is a classic example of those rare bands that made it big with their debut single. But what is even more intriguing is the fact that their incredibly famous song "Aadat" was perhaps the first one that made it big solely through the Internet, way before its video came on air. "Aadat" was named the best song of the year (2003) by The Musik. Within days its video was declared the 4th best video on the same channel. 'Aadat' remained on the top of the charts for over six months since its video release. It is still the one of the most frequently requested song on all TV and Radio networks of Pakistan and India.
- Jal's single "Woh Lamhey" broke through to the charts instantly too and stayed on the top for two continuous months.
- Jal's video "Ik Din Aye Ga" was declared the 2nd best video among the top 100 videos selected by The Musik, a Pakistani channel, and is being played consistently on different music channels. The video got a tremendous response online and approximately 43000 downloads have taken place on www.pakmediarevolution.com ever since the video was uploaded on the net.
- Jal's debut album "Aadat" was declared the best selling album of 2004 on Geo TV by Mr Khalid Sadaf (Owner of Pakistan's biggest recording label Sadaf Stereo).
- Jal also received a special award by Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital in recognition of their support and efforts to raise funds for fighting cancer in Pakistan.
- In 2006, Jal won 4 awards at MTV Asia Awards 2006 and 6 at Indus Music Awards for Best Rock Band Award in Pakistan. best Pakistani rock band
