Don Krieg's Pirate Armada (海賊艦隊, Kaizoku Kantai) is a fictional band of pirates from the anime and manga One Piece, led by Don Krieg.
They consisted of a fleet of 50 pirate ships and 5,000 pirates that posed as a fearsome force in the East Blue until Don Krieg attempted to conquer the Grand Line. Their crew was wiped out by Hawk-Eyes Mihawk, leaving one sole remaining ship that managed to escape, carrying Don Krieg and his surviving crew members away from the Grand Line.

[edit] Part in the Story
The crew is first seen when a starving Gin goes into the floating restaurant Baratie and demands food. Due to his lack of money and status as a pirate, he is kicked out, but Sanji takes pity on him and gives him free food. Delighted, Gin returns to his crew and brings all of them to the Baratie, too. When Don Krieg recovers his strength, he reveals his intentions to steal the Baratie and use it to return to the Grand Line. This shocks his crew, who were both feeling gratitude towards the chefs and didn't want to go back to that pirate graveyard, but out of fear of their captain, they comply.
However, as luck would have it, Mihawk trailed them and wrecks their last ship. However, once he defeats Roronoa Zoro, who had challenged him to a duel, he decides that he has had enough fun and leaves everyone to their own devices. Krieg decides to continue his attack. When Gin is forced to kill Sanji, however, he comes to a tough decision and goes against his orders. In response to this, Krieg uses a poisonous gas in an attempt to kill him.
After a long battle, Luffy manages to defeat Krieg, but even after the battle is over, Krieg unconsciously gets up and demands to continue the battle, only to be knocked down by Gin. Gathering the entire crew in a small boat, Gin declares that as a dying wish, he wants to bring his captain back to the Grand Line like he wanted, and sets off. It is unknown if they have survived.
[edit] Pirate Flag/Ship
Krieg's flag is a standard Jolly Roger with two hourglasses to the sides, to show to their victims that their time is up.
Don Krieg originally possessed a fleet of 50 vessels. However, after Mihawks attack, only his flagship was left. The Flagship was a large wild-cat themed galleon with many big cannons. However, by the time of the Baratie arc it had been badly damaged by battle and weather following its trip to the Grand Line. Its name was revealed in the One Piece Yellow Book to be the Dreadnought Saber. It had a variety of colors in its paint scheme, the dominant one being purple with yellow, off-white, and green. While the rest of the fleet isn't shown, from the flashbacks it's revealed that they were similar in theme and colors. The Dreadnought Saber was sunk by Mihawk during Krieg's attack on Baratie and Krieg himself had already written her off.

Captain (17,000,000 belli bounty)
Don Krieg (首領・クリーク Don Kurīku?), of the Pirate Armada, was (militarily) the most powerful pirate in the East Blue, one of the four seas of the One Piece world. Although Krieg had a lower bounty than Arlong, his fleet of 50 ships and over 5,000 pirates, combined with active pillaging, forced the Navy to view Krieg as a greater threat. Krieg was well known for underhanded tactics; when he was first starting out as a pirate, he stole a Navy ship and, under the guise of a navy flag, approached towns without suspicion. Krieg's massive armada gave him the title, "Pirate Admiral Don Krieg".
Krieg is a typical One Piece villain who displays cruel tendencies, defeating even weak enemies with overwhelming odds. Despite this, he is also known for his ingenuity in battle. He is used to winning and being able to topple any force that goes up against him; this led to his failed attempt to conquer the Grand Line. However, his constant victories and reliance on weapons and odds made him overconfident. He displays some realization that his crew are an important aspect to his efforts and he makes sure they are fed to regain their full strength after Mihawk's onslaught. However, Don Krieg does not care for his crew and bullies them to fear him as their captain; he punishes those who fail him or show signs of weakness. He dominates his crew with sheer force of personality (He tells Gin to throw away his lifesaving gas mask, in which he does), and he is respected for his enormous material power. Don Krieg even seems strong without his weapons, as it took quite a few of his own crewman to subdue him after Luffy had defeated him.
Don Krieg made a trip to the Grand Line with his fleet, hoping to find the One Piece. On his seventh day in the Grand Line, however, his ships were completely destroyed by Dracule "Hawkeye" Mihawk, one of the Shichibukai. With only one ship remaining in terrible condition, Krieg returned to the East Blue. Krieg soon learned of the Baratie, a restaurant that floats at sea. When Krieg saw the fish-shaped ship, he knew that it would be the perfect ship, for no one would suspect it of being filled with pirates. Unfortunately for Krieg, he arrived at the same time Monkey D. Luffy and his crew were at the restaurant. After a long and intense battle on the wreckage of his old ship, Krieg was eventually defeated by Luffy. Even with this loss, he subconsciously wouldn't give up and it took his whole crew and a final punch in the gut from his first mate to finally drop him. He is still alive, however, but it is unknown as to whether or not he will pursue Luffy when he awakes.
Krieg wears a gilded suit of steel armour (which may be power armour of some kind) that is filled with hidden weapons, including the dreaded MH5 (a built-in weapon in his shield, that shoots off a poison-gas bomb which could exterminate a town), diamond knuckles (for hand-to-hand combat), a spike-covered cape, and a large bladed powerhead, his 'giant battle spear', the tip of which was ultimately shattered by Luffy, making it useless. Don Krieg's armour is forged of Wootz steel. His most potent weapon has always been his talent for skullduggery, which seems to have no bounds. His first mate is Gin (Ghin in the English dub) and his second mate is Iron Wall Pearl. He can even convert his shield into a gatling gun that fires sharp stakes that impales Luffy (poison suction cups in the 4Kids dub, though in both One Piece: Grand Adventure and Grand Battle Krieg shoots "nails", and in One Piece: Pirates Carnival, he shoots "spears"). Don Krieg also claimed to be the strongest man in the world, which is clearly an overstatement on his part, specially in the world of One Piece, though he is strong enough to lift Patty's attack boat out of the water with one hand and throw it.

First Mate
Gin the Demon Man (鬼人のギン, Kijin no Gin), known as Ghin in the English anime, is Don Krieg's First Mate. Gin is given a plate of food by Sanji for free when he is starving on the Baratie. When Don Krieg's forces come to take over the Baratie, Gin is ordered to kill Sanji. Gin, a person who had tortured and killed countless others with his weighted cannonball-tipped tonfas, could not bring himself to kill Sanji (Sanji is the only person to ever treat Gin to an act of kindness). For this, Gin is punished by Don Krieg, who orders him to drop his gas mask while Krieg releases the deadly poison MH5. They find he was always stronger than Krieg and was only living in his shadow, but despite this brush with death, Gin survives, and carries away the defeated Don Krieg (along with the rest of the crew) in a small boat. Thus, fans are not sure if Gin is alive or dead from breathing the poison. Gin said that he now wants to follow in Don Krieg's footsteps by going to the Grand Line, hoping to see Luffy there.
The Japanese word gin (銀), pronounced with a hard "g", literally means "silver", but an "h" was added to the spelling in the English dub. This was probably done because the name's visual similarity to the English word "gin", and the likelihood of it being mispronounced as such.

Second Mate
Don Krieg's second mate, also known as Pearl the Iron Wall and Invincible Pearl (鉄壁のパール, Teppeki no Pāru). A towering man, Pearl's ensemble includes wearing two iron plates covering his front and backside, as well as two smaller plates with large pearls embedded in them for strong, blunt attacks. Said to have been raised in a jungle. Pearl is noted to start panicking if he is struck and injured directly, protecting himself by causing friction sparks to ignite his body with a defensive layer of flames. This unusual tactic comes into play when Krieg's pirates attempt to capture the Baratie, when Pearl fights against Sanji and Luffy. He is initially (and accidentally) knocked out, but soon recovers and thrashes Sanji around (as Gin was holding Zeff hostage). Gin, however, finishes Pearl himself by shattering his iron plate shielding, claiming he reserved the right to kill Sanji himself. In the 4-Kids English dub, he had a "surfer dude" accent. He's in One Piece: Grand Adventure as a support character. A Pop culture reference was in a 4kids Dub Episode for the appearance of Pearl, in which the Episode was named Pearl Jam.
[edit] Other crewmates
The following crewmates although named do not appear in the series they do appear in the One Piece Blue Data book:
- Ideaman: Staff Officer of Planning
- Hustle: Combat Instructer
- Kagikko: Locksmith
[edit] Crew Strength
Don Krieg's Pirate Armada was militarily the most powerful pirate crew in the East Blue, due to their vast numbers of men, weapons and ships. However, contrary to their reputation as the toughest crew in East Blue, the Krieg Fleet appears to rely on numbers over strength, individual crewmen appearing less skilled than their counterparts in other East Blue crews. They overestimated their crew's strength against Hawk-Eyes Mihawk and the Grand Line itself.
Don Krieg himself relied on weaponry, believing with enough weapons you can win anything, a mistake that cost him and his crew victory. Krieg keeps his crew together using fear--despite how mad and ridiculous some of his orders may seem, his crew will follow them out of fear of being killed, which is another factor that limits their strength. However, some crewmates like Gin have genuine respect for Krieg, Krieg himself also understands that without men he can't progress any further.
