[edit] History
The 497th Air Refueling Wing was established on 15 Nov 1962 at Plattsburgh AFB, New York. The 497th replaced the 4108th Air Refueling Wing in Jan 1963. The wing supported global air refueling missions for SAC and other USAF needs utilizing the KC-97 tanker. The 497th Air Refueling Wing was deactivated on 15 Sep 1964.
During 1944-45, the 497th flew the venerable B-29 Superfortress and was a part of:
- 73d Bombardment Wing, Isley Field, Saipan[1]
