Swamp
From the Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can change
A swamp is an ecosystem. It lies between permanently dry ecosystems (like land with rivers) and permanently wet ones. Large parts of swamps are permanently inundated with water. Fauna and Flora have adapted to this. Swamps are important ecosystems as nesting and breeding grounds for birds and other animals.
About 6 percent of the earth's surface is covered by swamps. Furthermore they are filters for groundwater, and protect against flooding.
Well-known swamps are the Pantanal, the Everglades and the Wadden sea.
