The National Front for the Liberation of South Việtnam (NLF), was the name of a group of people in South Vietnam who fought against the government of South Vietnam and the United States during the Vietnam War. The group is known better in the United States by the propaganda term Việt Cộng or V.C. (literally meaning Việtnamese Communists) which was used in dictator Ngô Đình Diệm's 'Denounce the Communists Campaign'. In the American military alphabet, V.C. is Victor Charlie. American soldiers fighting in Việtnam usually just called the NLF Charlie.
The group was made up of people from both South and North Vietnam. Not all members of the NLF were fighting for communism. Some were fighting because of their dislike of the South Việtnamese government.
NLF forces fought using guerilla warfare. The actions of the NLF made it hard for the United States armed forces to win. Their actions helped to finally remove United States troops from Việtnam and end the war.
