Pretty Hate Machine est le premier album de Nine Inch Nails, sorti en 1989. Reznor nous livre un disque de pop–indus au son brut, percutant, aux sonoritées majoritairements électroniques et pas forcément très abordable aux premières écoutes. Maintenant multi–platiné, ce premier opus est devenu un grand classique de la musique alternative. Plusieurs titres tels que “Head like a hole” ou “Sin” sont toujours joués en live et font partie intégrante de la machine NIN.
