J. B. Bury

John Bagnell Bury (16. lokakuuta 1861 – 1. kesäkuuta 1927), joka tunnetaan yleisemmin nimellä J. B. Bury, oli irlantilainen protestanttinen historioitsija ja filologi.
Bury käsitteli aiheita muinaisesta Kreikasta aina 1800-luvun paaviuteen asti, mukaan lukien Rooman valtakunnan historia. Hän elvytti myös Bysantin tutkimuksen, joka englanninkielisessä maailmassa oli jäänyt vähille Edward Gibbonin jälkeen.
Kirjassaan Idea of Progress (1920) Bury katsoi edistysajattelun olleen ennen ensimmäistä maailmansotaa länsimaitten johtava ajatusmalli, ja että tuolloin ani harva olisi voinut uskoa läntisen sivilisaation heikkenemiseen ja hajoamiseen. Tämä luottamus oli hänen mukaansa heikentynyt sodan seurauksena.
