[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Clara the Cow Cartoon.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Clara the Cow Cartoon.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fritz S. (Talk) 15:32, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Crying... Silicon Tears

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions to the Crying... Silicon Tears article, but for legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

Feel free to re-submit a new version of the article. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later."

You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here. You can also leave a message on my talk page. NickelShoe (Talk) 15:14, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Track7 Games

A tag has been placed on Track7 Games, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Lelkesa 16:55, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi. And I'm no way affiliated to Sony or Virgin :) Wikipedia has clear notability guidelines. I'm not sure if Track7 meets the criteria. But you have to understand that if I see a new one-sentence page about a company I've never heard of without any links, I will be sure that it should be deleted from Wikipedia. Lelkesa 18:54, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Ok i understand this.. But now? How does it seem now that I have polished it a bit and that I also put various links that enforce its status? (IGN,AdventureGamers etc) I'm kinda new in this thing, I usually ADD or CORRECT things in wikipedia, i RARELY make an article ex novo.. Could you help me out, maybe? :PZisimos 18:59, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Transit (Staying-Alive film)

Although I submitted Transit (Staying-Alive film) for speedy deletion at first, I have decided not to submit it for speedy deletion because you are continuing to edit it. However, the article really needs some text to establish what the subject is. I don't know what it means for something to be a "Staying-Alive film" other than Staying Alive starring John Travolta. --Metropolitan90 20:09, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 300, Spartan premiere

Hello, thanks for this contribution to the 300 article : "300 opened in Greece two days earlier on March 7, 2007 in the city of Sparta (followed by an avant première in Athens the next day)." I've added a fact tag, since the information isn't found in the ref that follows. However, I think it would clearly be notable if the film did open first in Sparta, so it would be great if you could provide a reference for this. Best, --Javits2000 12:19, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi! There ARE many references, but all the websites are in greek!:D Actually the premiere was organised by Village Roadshow, the Austalian distributor and Multiplex owner around the world. Thus the flim opened two days earlier in sparta in the Village Center multiplex and one day later in Athens in the Village multiplex in ALL of its cinema screens in""The Mall Athens"". But unfortunately, poor International PR made that few outside greece knew about this :(Zisimos 13:41, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Phoenix Radio logo.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Notability of DISCO ★ PRINCE

A tag has been placed on DISCO ★ PRINCE, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. [edit] License tagging for Image:Germanosstoregreek.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Germanosstoregreek.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 01:06, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use disputed for Image:GermanosChainofStores.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:GermanosChainofStores.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:20, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A random question from someone you've never met!

Hi! I found your user page simply by looking for people who speak Italian (based on one of your user boxes), so apologies if this seems like something from out-of-nowhere. I was wondering if you could help me with something small, but Italian-related. I contacted a Flickr user concerning him granting permission for the use of a picture, but it turns out he speaks Italian. I've been able to communicate a little bit through Spanish, but I'm afraid I'm unable to continue the conversation with much accuracy. So, I was wondering if you could translate a few sentences for me, so I can seal the deal so to speak. If this seems something you'd be willing to do, let me know! Thanks for your time. Drewcifer (talk) 09:53, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Great! Thanks so much. So, I sent one message to the guy, in Spanish (I guess I don't know the difference between Spanish and Italian). Apparently he understood what I said, and responded with this:
Ciao, sono contento che tu usi questa mia fotografia per wikipedia. Sono anche felice di lasciarla con licenza gnu: l'unica cosa che ti chiedo è che sia specificata la mia paternità.
Gabriele
So, I'm hoping it's good news? There's just one last thing (and I'm assuming here that he's cool with the idea, but I have no idea from the text). Usually people vaguely say they grant permission, but Wikipedia needs them to be more specific. So I typically need to send out one more message to people to get them to say the right thing:
Great! Thanks so much.
There's just one last thing. Wikipedia is really picky about this: I need you to say something like "I grant Wikipedia permission to use my photograph under the terms of GFDL." Or something along those lines. In fact, you can just copy+paste that and send it back to me if you want! Also, is there a homepage or business page you'd like me to provide a link to?
Thanks again,
-Drew
So if you could help me translate his message, and assuming I have to send him one more message, translate the other one too? That would be amazing. Thanks alot. Drewcifer (talk) 00:11, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

He actually already gave you the permission.

He literally says: 'Hi, I am happy that you're using my photo on wikipedia. I'd also be happy to give it with a gnu license:the only thing I ask is to be given the credit of the photo.'

So he pratically gave you the green light ;)Zisimos (talk) 21:12, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

That's awesome! Thanks so much for helping me out on this. The only other thing I need help with is hopefully simple: I need to send a transcript of the conversation to Wikimedia. Usually I send it to permissions-en AT wikimedia DOT org, but I assume in this case it would be I permissions-it AT wikimedia DOT org? I assume that's what this says. Which means I would need a header that says something like: "The following is a transcript between myself and flickr user thisgabri concerning him granting GFDL/GNU permission for the use of image:Alessandro Cortini.jpg. Please note that the initial message was sent in Spanish. Also please note that the image has been uploaded to the English Wikipedia, but will be transferred to Commons eventually." And I guess that would be it! Thanks again for taking the time to help me out on this. Drewcifer (talk) 22:44, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Since Commons does not have a specific localisation, it seems to me that if you use the italian form the image will be valid in every wikipedia project of every language. I'd go for the italian form since it would be more direct. [1]

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:AvaMoore.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:AvaMoore.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too.
