[edit] List of famous Puerto Ricans

Man, I know what you mean. Some of these people editing can be a pain in el "culo". Anyway, who exactly is the editor deleting the names? Here is a solution, add something like this to the introducing paragraph "This is a list of people who were either born in Puerto Rico, are descendents of Puerto Ricans or have chosen Puerto Rico as their homeland." By doing so, it is clear that there will be non-Puerto Ricans in the list that have contributed and dedicated themselves to the island and therefore, considered by many of us as "Puerto Ricans". This way the person deleting the names will not be justified in doing so. I'm always on the look-out when it comes to the miliatry and science sections. In one case I noticed that someone deleted Adam Clayton Powell IV's name and I fixed it. Tell me what you think. Tony the Marine 18:52, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

I agree with you 100%. Sometimes due to an Ango surname, editors might be mistaken that they are nopt Puerto Rican. However, some such as Kate Donnelly should not be included in the list unless that person has spent considerable amount of their life in Puerto Rico. She is reviled by many on the island as being a reason that her husband has become so anti-nationalist and also blame her for encouraging him to cover up the Cerro Maravilla scandal. --XLR8TION 19:59, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Very few people "revile" doña Kate, and even if you believe that is so, an opinion which I respect, that is no reason to remove her, just as one would not remove criminals, outlaws, terrorists or defeated politicians. I have never heard absolutely anyone "blame her for encouraging him to cover up the Cerro Maravilla scandal" or "being a reason that her husband has become so anti-nationalist". Don't be an apologist for Romero Barceló. Whatever he did and whatever he believes in, nobody should be blamed but himself! You specifically removed former first ladies who are no longer active. That is contrary to the definition/introduction to the List, which states: "Neither is the list viewed from the context of the present. Their fame could be brief, what matters is that they were well-known during the peak of their popularity." First Ladies were all certainly well-known during the peak of their popularity. Doña Kate must be close to 70 and has lived in Puerto Rico for over 40 years---more than 80% of her adult life, which certainly covers the "residency" requirement to be on the list. She's remained active, raising funds for the children of dead policemen and served as trustee for the Puerto Rico Conservation Trust. What list would you put her in but this one? Every First Lady should be on the list, alive, dead, active or inactive. [comment left by 200.50.30.205 ]

First, Please sign your comments. Second, marriage to a politician does not make one famous. Only First Ladies who have labored for social issues should be recognized. There are many wives of politicians who have really never done anything and remained in the shadows of their husbands. To me and many others, this doesn't make one notable.--XLR8TION 11:35, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

If only "First Ladies who have labored for social issues should be recognized", when will you start deleting names from the "First Lady of the United States From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" page which "incorrectly" lists them all? ...or should I eliminate Mamie Eisenhower and a few other less notable First Ladies and justify my edits by citing your parameter?

The fact is that while all First Ladies, almost without exception initially became notable because they were married to their husbands, they did become notable figures in their time and, additionally, many took up notable projects, while "in office" and after they ceased to be First Ladies. In doña Kate's case, not only did she develop many worthwhile "social issues" (as you call them, although who are you or me to judge them!) but has continued doing so long after moving out of La Fortaleza. For over 22 years since she left the Governor's Mansion, she raises and pays out funds to the children of slain policemen so they can complete their studies. Is that not a worthwhile "social issue"? Additionally, she has served as one of three Trustees, appointed by the US Secretary of the Interior, of the Puerto Rico Conservation Trust, the quasi-public entity that has done the most for environmental conservation and historic preservation. Not more than 20 or 25 people have ever held the ad honorem yet immensely prestigious position of Trustee of the PRCT. [another comment left by 200.50.30.201]

NEWSFLASH: Kate Donnely Barcelos isn't Puerto Rican. She moved to Puerto Rico due to the fact she was married to Barcelo (aka El Asesino). If she wasn't married to Barcelo she would probably be living in the Hamptons with her WASP husband Chip and their kids Muffin, Becky, and Theodore. Once again, marrying a Puerto Rican doesn't make one Puerto Rican. Same goes for somone being famous for having a famous husband. --XLR8TION 15:40, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Puerto Rican First Ladies

To the people involved, The proper forum for the discussion in regard of the "first ladies of Puerto Rico" would be the talk page of the "List of Puerto Ricans".

I would like to state the following. I believe that only those who have made notable contributions to society in general, be either positive or negative, and that are either Puerto Ricans, Puerto Rican descent or have adopted Puerto Rico as their homeland should be in the list. These should be personal accomplishments which have given these people a certain degree of fame.

A person is not famous or notable just because she was a "First Lady" unless that person's personal accomplishments has been notable. For example: Former first ladies Betty Ford]] is notable because she established a renowned rehab. center and Hillary Clinton because she became a Senator and is running for president. These ladies can be "listed" as famous Americans, yet what did Julia Dent Grant accomplish besides being a first lady? It would fine to have Mrs. Grant's name in a "List of First Ladies", but not in a "List of famous Americans".

I suggest that one of the persons involved in this discussion create a "List of Puerto Rican First Ladies" and list these ladies there.

Take this as an example, I created the article Puerto Rican recipients of the Distinguished Service Cross. There I have listed the fourteen Puerto Ricans who were awarded the second highest military decoration of the United States. Only one of these men merits to be in the list of "Famous Puerto Ricans" and that is Modesto Cartagena because he is the most decorated Hispanic soldier in history. Tony the Marine 19:23, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Bravo Tony! Great idea. You hit right on the point. Marrying someone doesn't make one famous. Regarding First Ladies, there should be a list of them for any nation/country, however to incorporate "non-active" First Ladies of Puerto Rico who have not contributed to the greater good of the island/world, then they are just like an extension of their married surnames. Action speaks louder than words. Sitting in a chair and saying one is the governor's wife while he works and one watches telenovelas at home does not make one famous. --XLR8TION 19:41, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Tony---you have the wisdom of Solomon. As a result, probably the only First Lady that might be kept on the List of Puerto Ricans would be Jeannette Ramos, Gov. Sánchez Vilella's second wife, since she served for many years as a Superior Court Judge (she studied law and was appointed years after ceasing to be First Lady and very few would attribute her appointment to her prior stint as First Lady) and as one of the first female Appellate Court Judges. The rest were famous for being married to... I look forward to seeing the "List of Puerto Rican First Ladies", or perhaps, better yet, the "List of First Ladies of Puerto Rico" so that Gov. Tugwell's wife, for example, can be included. BTW, doña Kate moved to Puerto Rico prior to becoming Mrs. Romero Barceló, and not as a result of knowing or marrying him. She has lived in Puerto Rico for about 50 of her close to 70 years, a very substantial part of her lifetime, so while under Tony's fair suggestion, she qualifies from the adoption-of-Puerto-Rico criteria, she fails the independently-famous test!

[edit] Image:Deniseq2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Deniseq2.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 48 hours after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu badali (talk) 13:08, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Please note, that this is really a content dispute at this point. If people insist on changing it and ignoring the discussion, you could always ask warn them for disruption. --After Midnight 0001 16:18, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Please assume good faith and do not make false accusations that I have violated 3RR as that clearly is not true. I would suggest you either leave the page as-is until the move request is sorted, or at least bring up the issue in a considered manner on the talk page rather than continuing to revert. You are not the only editor with a viewpoint on this matter and I ask that you respect other editors' opinions. -- PageantUpdatertalk | contribs | esperanza 00:30, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Again I ask you to assume good faith. I have never violated 3RR and that is clear from the article history. Let's just wait until the move request is dealt with and go from there. And again, your claims that I "own" the article are ridiculous. There are a number of other editors who agree with my viewpoint, but it appears you are the only one persistently reverting the article. I suggest you look at the my last post on the Talk:Wilma Blasini Perez page re Google News Hits. I think that is pretty conclusive evidence that the name chance is warranted. If you disagree, bring it up there, don't make personal attacks on my talk page. -- PageantUpdatertalk | contribs | esperanza 20:28, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mediation

Mediation should have waited until the move request process was completed - and only if people were unhappy with the solution. In the interim, please accept the community consensus solution which is to use a piped link showing "Uma Blasini". I am warning you that a further revision will be a violation of 3RR. -- PageantUpdatertalk | contribs | esperanza 22:28, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

I agree with this and for same reason I decided not to agree with the mediation proceess. 208.59.119.30 00:51, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

To the parties involved, I looked at the source posted in Wilma Blasini's article and it mentions her as "Uma Blasini". It was my mistake to revert. I recommend that it remains as "Uma Blasini" for now, which seems to be the most common name she is referred to, even if it is her "nickname". There are more important things in Wikipedia to tend to. With the exception of Catholic Bishops Alvaro Corrada and Roberto González Nieves, Pentecostal Bishop Angel Marcial is the only other ecclesiastical leader in Puerto Rico who has held an important ecclesiastical office on the mainland United States. [edit] Sylvia Mendez

I'm sorry my brother, but on this occasion I had to revert you on the "List of Puerto Ricans". See it so happens that Sylvia Mendez's mother, Felicita, was Puerto Rican. See: [2] and I quote:

"In Orange County, Gonzalo Mendez, a tenant farmer in Westminster, and his wife Felicitas, a native of Puerto Rico, along with a group of Mexican American World War II veterans asked a fundamental question about their communities: If we are good enough to fight and die alongside Anglos, then why are my children not good enough to attend the same schools as their children? Early in 1945, They filed a lawsuit in federal court in Los Angeles against four Orange County school districts--Westminster, Santa Ana, Garden Grove and El Modena (now eastern Orange)--seeking an injunction that would order their schools' integration."

Plus, I also obtained some of my info from an interview in People en Espanol (March 28, 2007)"Cambio Historico (Historic Change)": pages 111-112 by Isis Sauceda (I have the copy). There she herself states that she is half Mexican and half Puerto Rican because of her mother.

You know that you're my friend and that I never revert you, but in this case I had too. Remember, some websites may assume that she is "Mexican" because the writers themselves assume that every Hispanic from California is of Mexican heritage, but when she herself clearly states her true hertiage in public then we must accept it as such. I did promise some of my friends a couple of articles and as a good Marine I will keep my promise. To my friends here, Thank you for your friendship. Tony the Marine 00:25, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:AdolfoQ.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:AdolfoQ.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 04:48, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Zuleyka Rivera

Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period as you are approaching per the reverts you have made on Zuleyka Rivera. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content which gains a consensus among editors. After Midnight 0001 20:42, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Discuss on talk page means put in your opinion and wait for consensus to develop. You should not have reverted with waiting to see the opinion of other editors. Aside from this, I beleieve that this is still a violation of WP:BLP and I will be pursuing this portion of the matter further. --After Midnight 0001 20:42, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Kgnofficial.jpg.JPG

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Kgnofficial.jpg.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:09, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Rogersalbum.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Rogersalbum.jpg.

Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShadowHalo 00:58, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Entre-Nos's plagiarism

Hi. Just to say that my suggestion is that you don't be too tough on Entre-Nos. My feeling is that he (or she) is genuinely trying to contribute. It can also be hard sometimes to recognize and avoid plagiarism. I agree with you that what he's done is indeed plagiarized (as I've pointed out on his or her talk page), but I think it might be more productive if you tried to adopt a somewhat softer tone with him/her. --jbmurray (talk|contribs) 01:41, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Copied over from my talk page: Thanks for sharing your articles with me. You're right that they're good models. I especially like the one on the Normandie Hotel just because I've had a drink in the bar there, and agree that it's a great building.  :)
As for the problem with Entre-Nos's entries. Again, I think that he (I'll assume it's a he for the time being) really thinks these people are notable, and to demonstrate this has written articles on them, though they are unfortunately plagiarized as you yourself have pointed out.
Yet it is certain that the most recent three figures, Awilda Carbia, Marta Romero, and Sonia Noemi, though hardly superstars, are sufficiently notable to have fairly lengthy biographies on the Fundación Nacional para la Cultural Nacional website. Of course, it might be open to dispute as to whether everyone on that list deserves a place on the List of Puerto Ricans. But if you're into that kind of thing (and I'll admit that I'm not), you might think that they deserve to be there as much as a DJ such as Manny Lehman, a councilperson such as Rosie Méndez, or even the many Puerto Rican baseball players who are also on Wikipedia.
Personally, I'm pretty neutral. As long as the articles are good, unplagiarized of course, and not merely vanity pieces, then I feel why not?
One way of seeking wider consensus might be to remove the plagiarized material from his articles (i.e. basically reduce them to a stub) and then take them to AfD.
You might also consult with Tony the Marine, as after all he's an admin and has much more Wikipedia experience than I do. --jbmurray (talk|contribs) 02:15, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List of Puerto Ricans

Good! Merge is the way to go. Now we can get started in transferring the names of those who are truly notable to the other list. XLR8TION and Jbmurray first add your names here Wikipedia:WikiProject Puerto Rico/Notability Criteria where you agree as overseers of the list to make sure that any additions to the same meet the criteria established. Then start transferring the names. Notice that the names in the List of notable Puerto Ricans are in alphabetical order by first name because it is much easier to manage (you know how it is with the surnames in our culture).

Jbmurray, since your main specialty is, and not limited to, literature (my main thing is the military, educators and scientist), transfer the names in the section "Authors, playwrights and poets" which meet the criteria.

XLR8TION, You do the same and especially add the Diplomat section which you have worked so hard on.

Notice: Most of the names are already posted in the new list.

The good thing about the new list is that if a person adds a name of a non-notable, once you make your revert, you just add "person fails to meet criteria" to the edit summary, no fuzz no discussion. Of course anyone one can go to the talk page and try to make a case, but the committee (which you will be a member of) will decide if the criteria is met.

After the transfers are made, let me know and I will then proceed to delete the "List of Puerto Ricans" and make a redirect of "List of famous Puerto Ricans" to the new list. Tony the Marine 20:14, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Suggestion

In regard to the "List of Puerto Ricans" and Bios of PR's. Since the parties involved (Entre-Nos) cannot reach a friendly agreement, I suggest that the situation be presented in a civil manner to the following forum: Wikipedia:Requests for administrator attention and that the discussion (fight) in the talk page be put to an end. It would be best for other administrators, who are not Puerto Rican, became aware of the situation and point out what is expected in "Wikipedia".

The topics to discuss in the forum should be about what is considered "plagiarism", "copyright violations" and "facts". Tony the Marine 01:28, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Sallyregenhard2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Sallyregenhard2.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:11, 20 June 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 02:11, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] David Zayas article

Hi, hope you're doing good. Awhile ago, after getting in the Wikipedia website and right before logging in, I saw a message from you left at my IP address - not at my user's account. The message read:

Please stop vandalizing David Zayas's entry on the list of Puerto Ricans. You have been told three times to stop. This is the final warning before the issue is referred to a site administrator for further action. David Zayas is a Puerto Rican actor with an extensive filmography. PLEASE STOP VANDALIZING! --XLR8TION 11:14, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

I must say that I didn't know who David Zayas was, I had never entered his article page, much less edit it. The vandalism you allege was committed by someone by my IP address was not mine. However, strangely enough, in the article history, there are no accounts of any vandalism committed by someone with my IP address. Anyway, hope that clarifies it. I've been a frequent contributor to Wikipedia for a while now and I always edit under my username. I hope there's no misunderstanding about this. Take care. Thief12 01:13, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Basslancepeoplecover.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Basslancepeoplecover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:01, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] George Tames reference

The source being used is not reliable as it is a blog, something that cannot be considered reliable per WP:RS. Also, the blog itself mentions nothing of The Simpsons Movie so it cannot be used as a source to say that the movie is referencing it. All it shows is that the photos exist, but without proof that the Simpsons animators actually referenced it for the scene, its Original research and so should not be included. I see the likeness, but unless the source is reliable, and mentions the photos being referenced in the film, it cannot be included. If you still disagree, then I have created a discussion of the articles talk page. Gran2 14:30, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Go to WP:DR and start there. I saw the picture and I really don't think it belongs in the article at all. I'd suggest checking out the Mediation Cabal as well, and ask for them to view the page. Wildthing61476 (talk) 23:22, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Blocked

You have been temporarily blocked from editing in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for edit warring, incivility and personal attacks. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make constructive contributions. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest the block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below.

Nishkid64 (talk) 02:42, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

FYI, this is a legitimate edit. Message boards are not reliable sources for Wikipedia articles. As far as I see, B made no racist accusations whatsoever. The material came from a poorly chosen source, and he made that clear in his edit summaries. Your belligerent and threatening behavior, as seen in your edit summaries and the Wikiquette alert report, is unacceptable. Nishkid64 (talk) 02:47, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

This blocked user (block log | autoblocks | rangeblocks | unblock | contribs | deleted contribs) has asked to be unblocked, but an administrator has reviewed and declined this request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock request while you are blocked.

Request reason: "You did not look into my contributions history nor my discussion on the talk page to make a clear decision. A block until January 10th is really unfair and I would like to point out that I have made significantt contributions to this site. Why don't you take a look at the article for the Dominican Day Parade in which a user call UnclePaco posts libelous photographs that I have to removed. I even requested a third opinion to try to get this resolved and still he refuses to listen to my discussion. I would like for you to reconsider this block."

Decline reason: "These arguments do not address the edits for which you were blocked. Your other contributions and the behaviour of other users are completely irrelevant when considering the appropriateness of this block. — Sandstein (talk) 12:10, 4 January 2008 (UTC)"

Please make any further unblock requests by using the {{unblock}} template. However, abuse of the template may result in your talk page being protected.

I feel that the block is unfair and biased. You did not look into my contributions history nor my discussion on the talk page to make a clear decision. A block until January 10th is really unfair and I would like to point out that I have made significant contributions to this site. Why don't you take a look at the article for the Dominican Day Parade in which a user call UnclePaco posts libelous photographs that I have to removed. [edit] WP:SKILL

Your recent comment regarding another user's language skills is inappropriate. Belittling another user based on their grammar (on a talk page no less, where content is not a part of the encyclopedia's text) is unnecessary and creates a hostile and adversarial editing environment. You have a history of civility violations, and I suggest you heed this warning and others. However much you contribute to the content of articles, you are still entirely responsible for your conduct, and such behavior is detrimental to the encyclopedia and hurtful to others. Since it is unclear if you have been notified, this is in response to a complaint filed against you regarding the relevant breach of civility guidelines. --Cheeser1 (talk) 05:36, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Your response:
I did not make a uncivil attack. I pointed out that user UnclePaco (who has a history of unconstructive edits)does not use proper grammar or structure when making his series of unconstructive edits. If you look at the discussion page for the Dominican Day Parade you will see what I am talking about.
I'm afraid that is exactly what WP:SKILL says not to do. Belittling someone for their grammar is unnecessary, inappropriate, and uncivil. Please read that section, if not the entire page to learn more about how to be civil on Wikipedia. --Cheeser1 (talk) 05:48, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
How can someone be blocked if they aren't warned first? Isn't that a bit unfair? I have seen admins warn editors/vandals about their behavior to great success. Again, I feel that the page should have been blocked and that both myself and UnclePaco should have been warned. --XLR8TION (talk) 05:51, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
(ec)I think you're confused. I didn't block you, your block isn't even related to this incident, and I'm not the person you should be appealing your block to. I'm just explaining to you that your actions were, by definition, uncivil and inappropriate. You have seen that such incivility will get you in trouble, and so in a few days when your block is over, you can either take the advice of all the people who've asked you to tone it down, or you can keep doing what you've been doing. It's your choice. You don't get a nice warning for every instance of incivility/edit warring/personal attacks - sometimes, when it's clear you should have known better and are stepping across the line, you get blocked.
As for your assessment of the situation, UnclePaco was warned, and you would have been too I assume, but you'd already been blocked for an unrelated incident in which you were edit warring (not to mention being uncivil). As for "blocking the page" - an article cannot be "blocked," so I can't speak to what that might mean. --Cheeser1 (talk) 06:12, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

When you have been warned and blocked for violating policy before, you don't need a warning for possible future violations. You are expected to know policy, and you will be blocked if you violate it. Nishkid64 (talk) 06:04, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Exactly. --Cheeser1 (talk) 06:12, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] A little too late apparently

Hello XLR8TION!

I just stopped over from a Wikialert posted about you[7]. It seems I have arrived too late as you got blocked here for some reason.

Anyway, While I in principle agree that UnclePaco was wrong on his edit, that is not a good reason to disparaging other editors. Part of the civility code around here requires that we all keep cool heads when someone else start making either edits we simply disagree with, or edits that are flat out wrong. Its important to engage in discussion rather than taking a swipe at someone (intended or not). There are procedures to review edits that any of us think are out of line. I would suggest starting at the WP:Community portal, which is on the left side of your screen under "interaction".

Best of luck, good editing when you get back in, and .... stay cool. LonelyBeacon (talk) 05:40, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

(rats .... seems Ol' Cheeser there beet me to it ..... I'm just here then to reiterate what he said). LonelyBeacon (talk) 05:40, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

    • LonelyBeacon, thanks for your help. I am appealing the block. I feel that UnclePaco's edits are not only unconstructive but his rogue editing skills only bring this site down. I will appeal this block. I wasn't warned on anything wrong I did, therefore I feel that the decision was both biased and unjust.--XLR8TION (talk) 05:46, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
I haven't read everything going on, and I must admit that I just took a quick look at the edits on that parade article. However, if you have ever been warned before about uncivil behavior (if .... I don't know if you have), then that constitutes the warning. Trust me, I know that these matters can be difficult. Just remember this: when you write a response to someone: if there is almost anyway they can misconstrue what you are writing as an attack, you should probably assume that it might get interpreted that way ...... even if there's no way you mean it.
I'm just giving out some friendly advice to help you out ..... Try and engage in dialogue on the article Talk Page ...... make sure that comments don't come across as anything but genuine, and are strictly about the material, not the editor. If there is still a problem, you can always try WP:RFC ..... that's typically the next step. Hang in there ...... Peace! LonelyBeacon (talk) 08:25, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

I do accept the terms, but please be aware that I did ask for an adminsitrator's help many, many times but never heard back from anyone. [edit] 3RR block

You have been blocked from editing for a short time in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for violating the three-revert rule . Please be more careful to discuss controversial changes or seek dispute resolution rather than engaging in an edit war. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest the block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below.
The duration of the block is 2 weeks. Nishkid64 (talk) 06:11, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Sit tight ... UnclePaco has been indefblocked and appears to be a reincarnation of a banned user. --B (talk) 09:58, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Seems like I got here a ilttle late again. When I went over to the Talk Page, they had already caught you on a 3RR.
I think [[User:B|B] has some good advice. Go chill and do something else for a while. Come back in a two weeks refereshed. It looks like:
1. Some people have already chimed in that the inclusion ofthe parade violence section was unwarranted.
2. The editor trying to add it was a sockpuppet, and is banned. He likely will not be back in these parts anytime soon.
If I may recommend: at some time over your break, take some time to read up on the wikipedia policies. Knowing them can be helpful in terms of not doing things that will get you in trouble, especially since I don't think that is what you are trying to do. I thik you are a passionate editor who has a lot of sontructive things to add. You need to learn how to defend yourself "Wikipedia-style" while you are here (I know that sounds cliched a bit .... sorry to sound sappy). LonelyBeacon (talk) 16:06, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
You have been unblocked because you did not violate WP:3RR. UnclePaco was a block-evading sockpuppet, and under the rules, undoing the edits of a indefblocked user is an exception of 3RR. Nishkid64 (talk) 17:18, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Sometimes justice has a very nice smell to it! Congrats XLR8TION, you are vindicated! LonelyBeacon (talk) 17:59, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
      • LonelyBeacon, thank you for your kind words and help. I simply was telling the truth last week when I was blocked. I am a great contributor who will like to see this site reach its' mission as a reliable encyclopedia, but unfortunately trouble comes walking my way and I have to spend time trying to protect an article's integrity by undoing unconstructive edits. UnclePaco (and his many sockpuppet aliases) simply refuses to listen to reason, logic and guidelines. His rogue editing only causes more problems than it helps. I will update you of any troubles that might arise from the Dominican Day Parade article. Many thanks to you and other admins who believed in me. I truly appreciate it! --XLR8TION (talk) 02:54, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
LonelyBeacon is not an administrator, and I would remind you that even when dealing with suspected sockpuppets, WP:CIVIL and other guidelines apply. UnclePaco turning out to be a sockpuppet does not excuse inappropriate conduct. I hope that your conduct in the future will be as positive as your contributions to articles. --Cheeser1 (talk) 03:05, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Cayey, Puerto Rico

I left another message on the user's talk page asking him to justify his removal of these names on the article's talk page. If he doesn't I can no long assume good faith, and I will report him to [[[WP:AIV]] as a vandal editor. Wildthing61476 (talk) 21:48, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't know enough about the situation to form an opinion, but you are right to try not to violate WP:3RR with this user. My suggest, look up WP:RFC, and see about getting another opinion. From what I gather it looks like you feel one way, he feels the other, and there's no middle ground in between. The discussion at least is there, however there doesn't appear to be a finalized criteria as for who is considered "Cuban". Wildthing61476 (talk) 21:57, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: List of Cuban Americans

I protected the article so that the dispute would stop. In the protection request, you asked for dispute resolution from admins. Unfortunately, such actions are not in the job description of an admin. You may seek further dispute resolution through WP:RFC, WP:3O, WP:MEDIATION, or any of the other processes described in Wikipedia:Dispute resolution. Thank you. If you need anything else, let me know. --Jayron32.talk.contribs 19:12, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

(copied from my talk page to keep in one place)
Thank you for your help with the article List of Cuban Americans. I have attempted the Third Opinion option and that hasn't resolved anything. What's the best route do you think I should head on to get this resolved? This user has many sock puppet accounts and I have asked him (or her) to keeop the disputed names off the list until a third opinion is heard, to no success. Very stubborn bloke, but if you see talk page I have provided conversation on why rumors, unauthorized bios, multinational families, and baptismal certificates are not valid references to include these entries on the list. Please help!!! --XLR8TION (talk) 19:17, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
I would recommend WP:RFC. Most of the steps higher up on the WP:DR heirarchy usually require that an WP:RFC is atleast attempted before they will take them on. If that is unfruitful, keep escalating as described in WP:DR. --Jayron32.talk.contribs 19:21, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Ilikeitlikethatdvd.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Ilikeitlikethatdvd.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 01:29, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Quentin Elias

Hello, I know this is old news but, just out of curiosity, I'd like to know about your exchange with the vandal who tried to turn the Quentin Elias article into a vanity page. Are you sure it was Quentin Elias himself ? Given his alias (Qnyc), this is probable, but it could be his agent. Did you exchange emails with him ? I'm just being curious about his approach to public relations. Thanks, Wedineinheck (talk) 11:46, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Mcatoday.jpg

I have tagged Image:Mcatoday.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 22:58, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] NYC Meetup: June 1, 2008

New York City Meetup

Next: Sunday June 1st, Columbia University area
Last: 3/16/2008
This box: view  talk  edit

In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, elect a board of directors, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the last meeting's minutes).

We'll also review our recent Wikipedia Takes Manhattan event, and make preparations for our exciting successor Wiki Week bonanza, being planned with Columbia University students for September or October.

In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and (weather permitting) hold a late-night astronomy event at Columbia's telescopes.

You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.

Also, check out our regional US Wikimedia chapters blog Wiki Northeast (and we're open to guest posts).
