Student Life is the university ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ in Australia and New Zealand. Campus Crusade for Christ International was founded in 1951 by Bill Bright at the University of California, Los Angeles. Student Life Australia started in 1974, and Student Life New Zealand in 1983 under the banner of LIFE Ministries.

Student Life Australia is the university ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ Australia. is present on 15 campuses in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland with 60 full-time staff and affiliates. Staff serve in a variety of ways - in teams on individual campuses, in teams on a city wide basis, over distance with key volunteers, with international students and in facilitation, co-ordination and administration roles in our head office.

Student Life's aim is to give every student on each campus the opportunity to hear and respond to a clear and attractive presentation of the gospel. Student Life focuses on evangelism and discipleship.

Student Life runs:

Weekly meetings where students can learn about Christianity, gather for fellowship and develop their relationship with God
Christianity Explained courses for students who are interested in learning about Christianity
Small groups where students are able to study the Bible and meet other students who are at a similar stage of life
One on one mentoring times where a staff member or older student will mentor a younger student in their faith
Conferences
Summer Projects (short term mission opportunities)

At conferences students receive training in different aspects of ministry (small group leadership, evangelism, building movements, leading Christianity Explained courses etc.) as well as Biblical input and fellowship with students from many different university campuses. Student Life aims to train student to be able to tell their friends and people they meet about Jesus.

Students involved in Student Life also have opportunities to become involved as leaders in an organisation. Leadership training is provided for students with on-the-job experience of planning social events, campus wide outreaches, weekly meetings, and other events.

Student Life is a non profit organisation and receives funding from people who are interested in the ministry and the work that is happening there.

Student Life is not a church but a place for students at university to meet in order to learn from each other and find out about Christianity in a non threatening environment. Students who are involved in Student Life are encouraged to be part of a church outside university for continued Biblical input and growth opportunities.

Student Life's vision is to have "A ministry for every campus; the gospel for each student".

The global vision of Campus Crusade for Christ is that "Everyone would know someone who truly follows Jesus". This is applied to the Australian campus ministry with the vision "A ministry for every campus, the gospel for each student".

Student Life has workers on approximately 20 Australian university campuses. The biggest movements can be found at Macquarie University in Sydney and Monash University in Melbourne. Student Life is normally registered as an official club on campus through the relevant student union body.

[edit] Typical activities on campus

Typical Student Life activities on campus include:

Weekly Meetings. They are held on campus in the evening or during the day and open for all students to attend. Weekly Meetings usually include teaching from the Bible in the form of a talk. Each Student Life movement has a different name for their event (eg, Nightlife).
Small group Bible studies. These are often called "Core Groups", "Action Groups" or "Timothy Groups". Core Groups use standard material around Australia.
Christianity Explained Course. A 6 hour course run over 6 weeks with students who are interested in learning about the basics of the Christian faith.
Mentoring (Discipleship). Student Life workers and student leaders meet with people in a one-to-one setting for personal follow-up and leadership development.
Social Events (eg, sport, harbour cruise, parties, etc).

[edit] Mid Year Conference

The largest event in the Student Life calendar each is Mid Year Conference (MYC). One is held for students from university campuses in New South Wales and Victoria and another is run for students from campuses in Queensland.

Attendance at the NSW/VIC MYC in 2006 was around 300 people.

Student Life's short-term mission trips are called Summer Projects. There are four basic project types:

SummerSALT. Working with "Aussie" young adults.
Beyond. Working with international students.
Schoolies. Working with school leavers on the Gold Coast in Queensland during the Schoolies Festival week.
Projection. Working on support role development in areas such as web design, video production and journalism.

Student Life New Zealand is an evangelical Christian group that was started in by Wes and Suzie Brenneman on the University of Auckland campus in 1983.

Student Life NZ currently has movements at Massey University's Albany campus, the University of Auckland, the University of Waikato, Victoria University of Wellington, University of Canterbury and the University of Otago.
