The resolution of MIDI/ZIPI controllers actually relate to the resolution of Sampling (signal processing), because controllers basically sample the position of physical knobs, sliders etc. It's commonly referred to dynamic range in regards to sound, although I don't think it applies here. Feel free to insert appropriate link. Temporal resolution in MIDI is defined in the terms of 1) tempo - typically 1-320 beats per minute (BPM) 2) note resolution - typically 30 to 960 pulses per quarter note (PPQ).
