[edit] History
[edit] Season 2-3
Having been stood up by Carrie, Miranda meets Steve unexpectedly at the bar at which he works. She takes the encounter as a one night stand and reacts callously to his suggestion that they see each other in the future. Despite this, they can't resist each others' feelings and enter into a monogamous relationship. Their differences in income, aspirations and status, as well as their attitudes about living together and having kids are the catalysts for their eventual breakup, and subsequent breakups. Over the course of the show Miranda puts Steve through a fair amount of emotional tumult. However, he looks beneath her cynical exterior and finds her softer side while at the same time choosing his battles carefully and manages to get Miranda to relax and feel comfortable in a relationship.
[edit] Season 4-6
In season four he opens his own bar, called Scout and is diagnosed with testicular cancer. Miranda finds out about it, through Aidan. Miranda urges Steve to take the cancer seriously and suggests a doctor who has a lot of experience on the subject. This makes Steve very uncomfortable, however he realises that Miranda is right and changes doctors. He undergoes an operation to remove one testicle, and he is freed of the cancer. However, he feels like less of a man, and opts to get a faux testicle made of silicon. Miranda is against the idea, but Steve defends himself saying nobody would sleep with him if he only had one ball. Miranda says she will, and they sleep together. This encounter accidentally gets Miranda pregnant (despite his losing a testicle and Miranda having only one functioning ovary). Steve proposes to Miranda because he feels that's what she wants. However, they instantly agree that they don't want to marry each other, but decide to raise the child (Brady Hobbes) together even though they broke up before his birth. Eventually, Steve and Miranda drift back together and marry in season six. Miranda hates weddings, but they agree on a small intimate wedding ceremony with Carrie, Charlotte and Samantha present, and few close relatives. At the end of season six, Steve convinces Miranda to move to a house in Brooklyn.
