[edit] Character Information

I've been dating since I was 15. I'm exhausted! Where is he??

Charlotte York is the daughter of Sandra Whitehead York and Dr. Stephen Foster York. She is an art dealer and Smith College graduate (where she was a Young Republican and member of Kappa Kappa Gamma) with a wealthy Connecticut blue-blooded upbringing. She is the most conservative and traditional of the group, placing more emphasis on emotional love than lust, and is always searching for her "knight in shining armor." Presenting a more straightforward attitude about relationships, usually based upon "the rules" of love and dating, she often scoffs at the lewder, more libertine antics that the show presents (primarily by means of Samantha). Despite her conservative outlook, she has been known to make concessions (while married) that surprise even her sexually freer girlfriends (such as her level of dirty talk, oral sex in public and "tuchus-lingus"). It has been hinted at throughout the series, particularly the first and second, that she is the newest close friend of the group, for example being unaware of Miranda's long-term relationship two years prior to the start date of the series. She gives up her career shortly after her first marriage to Trey MacDougal, divorces him upon irreconcilable differences concerning in-vitro fertilization, and receives a Park Avenue apartment in the divorce settlement. She eventually remarries her less-than-perfect, but good-hearted divorce lawyer, Harry Goldenblatt, after converting to Judaism. In the series finale, Charlotte and Harry adopt her dream baby girl from China.

[edit] Background & Personality

Charlotte is viewed by some to be the most naïve of the four characters, often showing signs of belief in the old-fashioned, "love conquers all" notion. This type of outlook has even earned her the nickname "Park Avenue Pollyanna", coined by Carrie Bradshaw in narrations. Charlotte also possesses a soft personality towards her friends, always "being there" for them. It is revealed throughout the series that Charlotte enjoys various degrees of status in her younger life, such as being prom queen, a varsity cheerleader, track and field captain, teen model, and equestrienne. She is occasionally described as a WASP, an identity she seems to happily accept. However, Charlotte later converted to Judaism.

[edit] Relationships

[edit] Trey MacDougal

Trey MacDougal is a doctor from an upper-crust family, with an overbearing, frequently-present mother who comes to rival Charlotte. The two meet when she accidentantly falls into the street right in front of the taxi in which he is riding. Trey steps outside of the taxi to help her out, and it is implied that they fall in "love at first sight". Charlotte feels that Trey is the ideal boyfriend and husband-candidate. After months of dating, Charlotte becomes anxious of his proposal. Frustrated with waiting, Charlotte suggests (while at a restaurant) that they should get married, to which Trey casually responds "All righty." Charlotte is furious at this response because it was not what she had imagined. Later, Trey makes up for it by stopping in front of a Tiffany & Co. store during a walk and suggesting that they look for "the most beautiful [engagement] ring they have." They decide not to have sex until they are married, but on the day before their wedding, Charlotte gets drunk and visits Trey's apartment to have sex. This is the first time Trey is shown as unable to perform, implying that he may be impotent. Charlotte addresses her concern to Carrie before she walks the aisle, but is comforted by Carrie, and so the marriage between Trey and Charlotte takes place. As a married couple, the two struggle with the lack of sexual activity and their different opinions about having children (as well as arguments centering around his mother, Bunny). This ultimately leads to their divorce.

[edit] Harry Goldenblatt

Harry Goldenblatt is Charlotte's divorce lawyer. Although Charlotte is initially repulsed by Harry's constant sweating and somewhat odd appearance and behavior, she ends up sleeping with him when Harry confesses his attraction to her. She tries to keep their relationship strictly about sex, but soon after her feelings get attached as well. Charlotte converts to Judaism to appease Harry's requirement that he can only marry a fellow Jew, but soon ends up ruining the relationship in a fit of anger. After several weeks of bad blind dates, Charlotte bumps into Harry at the local synagogue singles night, and admits her wrongs, professing her deep love for him. Harry is touched and proposes to Charlotte on the spot. Harry and Charlotte marry in a traditional Jewish ceremony. They explore their options of having children, at one point becoming pregnant (followed shortly by Charlotte having a miscarriage which emotionally devastates her) and finally are approved to adopt a girl from China named Lily in the series finale.

[edit] Sex and the City Movie

Charlotte in 2007 , has adopted her daughter "Lily" and is perfectly happy in New York with Harry. Soon later in the movie Charlotte finds out she is pregnant and gives birth to a baby girl, Rose. The final scenes of the movie show Harry and Charlotte with their two daughters.
