Seilhan

Seilhan is a commune in the Haute-Garonne department in southwestern France. It is located at longitude 42° 56' 44 North and latitude 0° 33' 46 E, and is extremely tiny with a population of less than 200 inhabitants in a land area of 4.68 square kilometers (5.7 mile²). The current mayor is Maurice Seilhan (2001-2008).
The name Seilhan is thought to derive from an old Gallo-Roman geographical name (Caelius + anum) but seems to be associated with fountains and ponds, so may derive from another word meaning "bucket." Some variations on the name include Seilan, Seilhean, Seillan, and Seillant.
Seilhan is also a French surname. Possibly the best-known of individuals with this surname was one Pierre Seilhan of Toulouse, France, who along with his brother donated their Toulouse home to Father Dominic's preacher's movement as its first home in 1215. This movement later evolved into the Dominican Order of the Catholic Church.
