Roman Catholic Diocese of Steubenville
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Steubenville (Latin: Dioecesis Steubenvicensis) is a Roman Catholic diocese covering thirteen counties in Ohio. The diocese was erected by Pope Pius XII on October 21, 1944 out of territory from the Diocese of Columbus.
Currently, the Diocese is raising funds to build a new Cathedral, Triumph of the Cross, in the West End of Steubenville, near the Diocesan high school, Steubenville Catholic Central High School. The plans entail combining six parishes in the city of Steubenville (Holy Name Cathedral, Holy Rosary, St. Pius X, St. Anthony's, St. Stanislaus, and Servants of Christ the King) and building a centrally located Cathedral in order to better accommodate the decline in the area's population and in the number of ordained priests in the Diocese.
