The Borough of Rhondda was one of six local government districts of Mid Glamorgan, South Wales from 1974 to 1996.
The borough formed in 1974 had an identical area to the Municipal Borough of Rhondda, in the administrative county of Glamorgan. The district was initially created as Ystradyfodwg Local board of health in 1877, from parts of Ystradyfodwg, Llanwonno and Llantrisant parishes. It became an urban district in 1894. It was renamed Rhondda Urban District in 1897 after the River Rhondda. In 1955 Rhondda received a charter of incorporation as a municipal borough.[1]
The borough was abolished in 1996, with its area passing to the unitary Rhondda Cynon Taff county borough.
