Recover was the first single from Welsh indie rock band The Automatic it was released 21st November on CD and Ltd edition 7inch vinyl, and marked the beginning to their tour with Goldie Lookin Chain.

Recover was later re-released as the fourth single, in this re-recorded version of 'Recover' it features more synths from Alex Pennie and a sharper guitar sound for James Frost's solo.

The song was performed live on The Friday Night Project's third season, making them the first band to make a return performance after they performed their single "Raoul" the season before.[3][4]

[edit] Original

The original video of "Recover" was first released November 7, 2005. The video features parts from live performances, as well as a small white room where all the band mates are singing and jumping around. The video was rarely aired, however is available on The Automatic's website, as well as YouTube. The music video was directed by Phaelon Productions[5][6]

[edit] Second version

A second video was also released which received MTV2 and other music stations play, the video features live footage, and footage from the original video. [7]This version cuts out all of the previous scenes with the large mouths instead of heads on the band members, as well as cutting out all scenes of the women who pass out in the park.

[edit] Re-release (third)

The latest version of The Automatic's video for "Recover" released September 1, 2006 [8] and directed by Up the Resolution[9], is based around a wrestling match, where the band are dressed as several different people each, both spectators and other various people, whilst they perform on the stage/boxing ring. Whilst this is going on the 'fight' is also happening, however the camera switches to and from the fight, and the band playing on the same ring. [10]

[edit] History

[edit] Meaning

Recover is about stopping being waster and finding the motivation to "Get up" and do something instead of wasting time in front of the television.[11]

[edit] Performance

Currently with the addition of Paul Mullen in the band, the song is performed differently, during the first verse Paul Mullen plays the synthesizer parts on a microKORG, then in the chorus a second guitar line is played, in the breakdown a sharper guitar line is played by Paul on-top of Frosts existing part. During many performances of the song the outro is extended with all parts except for James Frosts guitar line ending the same way in the recording, Frost continues playing the same riff before the bass guitar and drums come back in.[12]
