Reciprocal Recording

Reciprocal Recording was the name of a recording studio in Seattle, Washington, USA, that was founded in 1984 and was abandoned in the mid-1990s.
Chris Hanzsek and Tina Casale opened Reciprocal Recording in Seattle, WA in 1984. It was originally located in an office suite next to a railroad switching yard in Seattle's Interbay neighborhood. In 1985, the business moved to the "basement in Madrona" location. Later that year, Chris and Tina launched C/Z Records with the Ironwood Studios production and subsequent March 1986 release of the "Deep Six" compilation.
In the spring of 1986, Chris reopened Reciprocal Recording with Jack Endino, in the former Triangle Studios building on Leary Way in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood (formerly the site of a small neighborhood grocery, called Triangle Foods), where it operated until 1991.
The studio specialized in grunge music, and was the site of many grunge recordings, most notably the album Bleach (Nirvana's debut album), Screaming Life (Soundgarden's debut album), and most Green River albums.
The studio was also the site of a Nirvana demo session on January 23, 1988, on which ten mostly new songs were recorded (most of the demos are now available on With the Lights Out and Outcesticide).
Jack Endino was the original studio owner. Rich Hinklin and Chris Hanzsek worked closely under Endino, both often filling the role of a house producer. Terry Date was a frequent guest engineer and producer at Reciprocal. The studio's primary clientele was that from label Sub Pop Records.
It resides at 4230 Leary Way N.W. in the Ballard neighborhood.
