Outcesticide - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Outcesticide

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Outcesticide is a series of bootleg CDs featuring rare and unreleased material by the American rock band Nirvana. It was released unofficially by Blue Moon Records. To date, five discs have been released. They were all released in the mid-to-late 1990s. The name Outcesticide is taken from Incesticide, an official album Nirvana released in 1992, featuring various unreleased songs in an attempt to stop bootleggers.

The Outcesticide discs remain among the most celebrated Nirvana bootlegs of all time. However, commercial bootlegs in general became largely redundant during the first few years of the 21st century, due to the rise of trading communities. [1] Also, many of the rare recordings on the Outcesticide discs were officially released on the 2004 Nirvana box set, With the Lights Out.

[edit] Clones

Numerous other Nirvana bootlegs reappropriated the "Outcesticide" theme. One disc subtitled "Vol. 4: It's Better To Burn Out Than To Fade Away" goes so far as to claim production by Blue Moon with a catalogue number of BM50. Kobra records began distributing it's own Outcesticide, with volume 1 being an exact copy of the original series and gradually offering original compilations by the later volumes, of which are available an 8-disc box set. The majority of these false Outcesticide releases are generally poor quality and borrow most of their tracks from the original Blue Moon series and various other Nirvana bootlegs.
